OK just going to point out something that was a commander 1000xt not a commander 1000x the difference being the xt version is there Utv. Not can-ams. Sport version of the commander. The commander 1000x adds fox 2.0 shocks and from and rear sway bars for better handling. It also doesn't have the other options that adds weight to the machine. Yes the RZR s is hot but its a pure sport side by side the commander 1000 xt or the x version is not . Again loaded video just like if can-am made a vid

Commanders are actually much better. You need to tweak the fox shocks all the way down to get good results. Better tires, better shocks and suspension, more powerful and faster motor. Whoever made this video is obviously a hard polaris fan.

ive owned both, needless to say I WILL NEVER own another polaris, its for the kind of guy that likes to make numerous trips to the dealer and have their shit constantly being worked on, and there coustomer service is a frickin joke, they have a give a damn of zero! i have the least interest in what polaris ever comes out with again, i gave them a shot and learned the hard way THEY ARE THE CHEAPEST THING EVER MADE PERIOD!

This is a Polaris made video. They make valid points in defense of their machine in terms of "sport capabilities". The point they do make is, that the Commander is a worthy competitor with a ton more added features that they refuse to discuss. They should compare storage space and utility capabilities along with that. Even if a person only hits the dunes, that person would like to have adequate space for spare clothes and repair kits while keeping that stuff away from the sand.
just like polaris to compare apples to oranges. its easy to make a pure sport utv look better than a utv that is desinged to be used for work and play. lets see them take that rzr to the farm for some work, then on a hunting trip in the mountains. then out to play. in they want to be unbias let them compare all aspects of both machines not just the pure sport part that the rzr was specificly desinged for.

Dear ATVTVCOM, I am a motorcycle mechanic and you have got to be kidding me with this can am vs polaris stuff. ALL of "Poo"laris's testing is all set up, and you know it. I myself have ridden a RZR and a Commander 1000 and the RZR handles like a complete bucket. Not to say that the only reason why Polaris's are lighter is that they lack in build quality, and build quality is a very important thing if you dont intent on replacing your UTV every 12 months. Polaris must be paying you

@dudeshutup666 First: Experience should have told you that Polaris is made in America. Second: An important part of our testing is to remain unbiased towards any particular brand, unlike most owners who find it necessary to justify their purchase.
Third: Again I say, WE DID NOT MAKE THIS VIDEO! It is made by Polaris. We only put it up because we thought it was interesting - and of course certainly have found it has brought out all kinds of feelings ;-)
This is not an effective comparison. If you are going to take the Performance model from Polaris then you have to do the same thing with the Commander from BRP. If you would have had the Commander X in there the outcome would have been different. If you are set on using the Commander 1000 XT then use a Polaris Ranger. Otherwise you are going to have an unfair outcome which is what this video is.
Polaris only used the RZR S...they didn't bother with the RZR XP, cause that would have been a landslide. The point of this video is Can Am doesn't have a competitor to the RZR S or RZR XP. So yes....it was effective.
@khower well that and this video was made and released by polaris in 2010 when the commander was released, the XP and Commander both can go about75 mph but the XP can actually turn at that speed lol so yes it really would be quite a landslide haha
@tubbyg23 to further the fairness competition, using a RZRS with gas shocks would have been better. The model shown uses the throw away's. HUGE ride and capability difference beween the two.
Thats american marketing for you... Polaris spending money making a video which is all about putting the Commander down inorder to exalt the RzR. Regardless of which is actually better, This kind of marketing is illegal on most countries.

In USA criticism is seen as a bad thing that will hurt sales and cost jobs. Whereas in Europe criticism is seen as something good. It forces companies to be competitive and build quality. But thats a long story.
@Janusha My take is that a 'factual' review that may criticize the car will lead to them pulling their ad dollars. So unless you want to work for free, you must be 'kind' fair' 'uncritical' of all. Car and Driver found this out in the 60s when they bashed the Opel. I found it out in about 2001 when I bashed Polaris......And one reason I'm no longer on TV!
I studied social anthropology and marketing. I became a computer games designer but Im interested in social trends and brand identity. Who buys what and why. I also own alot of ATVs. I think its weird. Criticism is a reviewers job. Its the only professional feedback a manufacturer gets. This apparent inability to accept criticism is putting american products at a disadvantage.
There are no upper market US cars. Infact extremely few US cars are in demand abroad. In the enormous US -
-motorcycle market Ducati, KTM, Honda, Suzuki, Kawazaki, BMW, Yamaha, Honda all compete for the most modern superbikes while america has Harley... Patriotism on wheels with saddlebags. All because there is no truly independant motor press pushing them to be competitive. There is therefore no incentive, no need to produce quality. How they are unable to see this is a mystery to me.
Perhaps you should write for European publications that wont punish you for honest opinions and factual reviews.
@Janusha Harley Davidson is a unique brand and one that the Japanese have replicated and immensely improved, but still the HD following is an amazing bunch. In ATVs I see the same thing with Polaris. Innovative products, horrible quality but a rabid following. And now the most popular brand (by far!)
Sure. It works for Harley. They found their niche and are popular even outside USA. However they are completely void of modern tech, handling and quality. Im sure the RZR is good but generally Polaris are too heavy for me. American cars... Well.. There are many reasons why they all went bankrupt. I just see a tendency for waving flags and protecting domestic brands rather than stepping up and actually being competitive. There is no real reason why america shouldnt be right at the top.

These competitions make me laugh cause this is from the polaris website so obviously biased. As well they pick only the things they know they can win at, like another one they did was the rzr against the rhino. They analyzed the sport aspect but guess what the rhino isnt a sport machine its a UTV so again obviously the rzr will win in sport faceoffs. Same thing with this video the can am is cross but still a UTV orientated machine so again will lose in sport competitions compared to a sport SxS
Keep in mind that on the rzr s it depends if the center of gravity is actually lower because remeber the Fox Podium X shox are mico adjustable, so just think about that before you want to talk all this 16% lower bullshit!!!

For all the other comparissons (I've seen some of them) they only do the straight race and of course they win because it's an 800 vs 750's. And now that they lose, they have to say "oh but that's nothing, let's add turns". RZR's are good and quick, but these videos are made by Polaris, they're biased. And it's funny that ATCTVCOM publishes this when they're supposed to do their own "unbiased" tests. RZR's flip all the time

This is Top of the Live RZR vs Least of the Commander 1000. The XT model doesn't have the Fox Shocks and suspension that the Commander 1000X has.
The Center of Gravity is an issue when it comes to two things, MUD or Sand Dunes.
I am "liking" the Can Am Commander X1000 and putting in my two cents because I just bought the Commander 1000 X two weekends ago only After I did extensive reserch and and test drove both.
The decision I made, simply put, "very Satisfied".
Once again a manufacturer focuses it's "test" on whatever IT does better than the other guy. Commander does and has many features that make the RZR look like a very limited piece of equipment. It all boils down to what each of us want. Wanna go like hell through the mud? Get an RZR. Want a civilized cruise and ultility? Get a Commander. Buyers need to decide how they will use the buggy and buy the appropriate product. Oh and while "the beds are all the same size" - the Commander has two.
@atvtvcom the ranger can it only has 500 pounds more tow rating...that's why I have a truck and what has anyone who ranches really ever pulled with there utv other than some down trees the best thing a utv has is a bed and it can go places your truck can't and the rzr doesn't really have a bed and the commander out preforms the ranger on the trail and it's waayyy more comfortable...
I do ranch work I hunt and I trail ride I can't do thAt with the ranger or the rzr and I don't want to buy 2 machines... That's why I'm going to buy a commander on top of that it can beat both in a drag race talk about bragging rights any time you and buddies are having an argument about why machine is better in any case what does it come to... A drag race!!! Haha

@revis23 Here's how it works ;-) The RZR owner goes hunting, gets up into the high country, makes his shot, then waits for the Commander owner to get up there just as season ends. But the Commander will gladly haul the Elk out because it makes him look good. Meanwhile the RZR guy's down signing up for his next season's tags.
The commander isn't even made for sport use it's for work use I mean you can tell that by just looking at the thing this is like comparing a tractor to a trophy truck
@TheJustin15988 The Commander was hardly made to compete with the Ranger! Maybe the Rhino and Teryx.... But Polaris doesn't have a real middle-of-the-off-road machine. They have utility and sport. Perhaps they made this video to attack the fact that Can Am advertises how fast and sporty the Commander is.
@TheJustin15988 Can Am vs the Ranger? In a competition of who makes a better UTV, Polaris has been doing it longer and better than anyone. Can Am made a middle of the road machine that is middle of the pack when it comes to performance, whether it be in a sport class, or a working class. Polaris has the best of both, no contest.
First of all they used the can am commander xt for this video which is 200lbs heavier than the normal commander, causing the weight to be so much higher and a longer lap time. Secondly the commander is better in everything, ergonomics! Storage! Power! Accesories! Speed! Acceleration! Torque! and it is a Can-Am.
I work for a rental company who owns both machines, and for the most part, this video is right. What they don't say is that the welds on the Polaris are junk, we've had to do repairs many times. Also, it's Can Am's first year with the Commander, so there are bugs to work out (false trouble codes, jerky transmission). However, we put the Can Am and RSR S 800 in a drag race on pavement and the race was over in the first 50 feet.
The Polaris Razor is better at everything. THE COMMANDER IS A 1000 BUT THE RAZOR IS A 900. If Polaris come out with a Razor 1000 it would DOMINATE the Commander in E E E E V V V V E E E E R R R R Y Y Y Y T T T T H H H H I I I I N N N N G G G G

They are trying to compare a full on sport sxs to a sport/utility sxs. Lets now compare how well the rzr s does in the utility section. It cant. This is like apples and oranges.

My friends dad got a commander 1000 xt. He took to the dunes and the trails. He said the suspension is shitty and is really over priced. Just about all of can-ams products are overpriced and doesnt last long. Later on my friends dad got a rzr 800 s and he said its better than the commander

This is a Polaris made video. They make valid points in defense of their machine in terms of "sport capabilities". The point they do make is, that the Commander is a worthy competitor with a ton more added features that they refuse to discuss. They should compare storage space and utility capabilities along with that. Even if a person only hits the dunes, that person would like to have adequate space for spare clothes and repair kits while keeping that stuff away from the sand.

just like polaris to compare apples to oranges. its easy to make a pure sport utv look better than a utv that is desinged to be used for work and play. lets see them take that rzr to the farm for some work, then on a hunting trip in the mountains. then out to play. in they want to be unbias let them compare all aspects of both machines not just the pure sport part that the rzr was specificly desinged for.

I myself have ridden a RZR and a Commander 1000 and the RZR handles like a complete bucket. Not to say that the only reason why Polaris's are lighter is that they lack in build quality, and build quality is a very important thing if you dont intent on replacing your UTV every 12 months. This is not an effective comparison. If you are going to take the Performance model from Polaris then you have to do the same thing with the Commander from BRP. If you would have had the Commander X in there the outcome would have been different. If you are set on using the Commander 1000 XT then use a Polaris Ranger. Otherwise you are going to have an unfair outcome which is what this video is.

Polaris only used the RZR S...they didn't bother with the RZR XP, cause that would have been a landslide. The point of this video is Can Am doesn't have a competitor to the RZR S or RZR XP. So yes....it was effective.

Car and Driver found this out in the 60s when they bashed the Opel. I found it out in about 2001 when I bashed Polaris......And one reason I'm no longer on TV!

Innovative products, horrible quality but a rabid following. And now the most popular brand (by far!)

Sure. It works for Harley. They found their niche and are popular even outside USA. However they are completely void of modern tech, handling and quality. Im sure the RZR is good but generally Polaris are too heavy for me. American cars... Well.. There are many reasons why they all went bankrupt. I just see a tendency for waving flags and protecting domestic brands rather than stepping up and actually being competitive. There is no real reason why america shouldnt be right at the top.

These competitions make me laugh cause this is from the polaris website so obviously biased. As well they pick only the things they know they can win at, like another one they did was the rzr against the rhino. They analyzed the sport aspect but guess what the rhino isnt a sport machine its a UTV so again obviously the rzr will win in sport faceoffs. Same thing with this video the can am is cross but still a UTV orientated machine so again will lose in sport competitions compared to a sport SxS

For all the other comparissons (I've seen some of them) they only do the straight race and of course they win because it's an 800 vs 750's. And now that they lose, they have to say "oh but that's nothing, let's add turns". RZR's are good and quick, but these videos are made by Polaris, they're biased. And it's funny that ATCTVCOM publishes this when they're supposed to do their own "unbiased" tests. RZR's flip all the time

This is Top of the Live RZR vs Least of the Commander 1000. The XT model doesn't have the Fox Shocks and suspension that the Commander 1000X has.
The Center of Gravity is an issue when it comes to two things, MUD or Sand Dunes.
I am "liking" the Can Am Commander X1000 and putting in my two cents because I just bought the Commander 1000 X two weekends ago only After I did extensive reserch and and test drove both.
The decision I made, simply put, "very Satisfied".

Once again a manufacturer focuses it's "test" on whatever IT does better than the other guy. Commander does and has many features that make the RZR look like a very limited piece of equipment. It all boils down to what each of us want. Wanna go like hell through the mud? Get an RZR. Want a civilized cruise and ultility? Get a Commander. Buyers need to decide how they will use the buggy and buy the appropriate product. Oh and while "the beds are all the same size" - the Commander has two.

But the Commander will gladly haul the Elk out because it makes him look good. Meanwhile the RZR guy's down signing up for his next season's tags.

Perhaps they made this video to attack the fact that Can Am advertises how fast and sporty the Commander is.

First of all they used the can am commander xt for this video which is 200lbs heavier than the normal commander, causing the weight to be so much higher and a longer lap time. Secondly the commander is better in everything, ergonomics! Storage! Power! Accesories! Speed! Acceleration! Torque! and it is a Can-Am.

I work for a rental company who owns both machines, and for the most part, this video is right. What they don't say is that the welds on the Polaris are junk, we've had to do repairs many times. Also, it's Can Am's first year with the Commander, so there are bugs to work out (false trouble codes, jerky transmission). However, we put the Can Am and RSR S 800 in a drag race on pavement and the race was over in the first 50 feet.

My friends dad got a commander 1000 xt. He took to the dunes and the trails. He said the suspension is shitty and is really over priced. Just about all of can-ams products are overpriced and doesnt last long. Later on my friends dad got a rzr 800 s and he said its better than the commander
