How music by black people should sound, insted of Fuck, Hoe, Bitch, Nigga....Etc... This shows talent and true beats. Today every young black man thinks he can earn someone`s respect by showing takky gold chains, expensive cars and easy women in EVERY damn video....
@musiclover3928 ...that may be so ...i can remember being a club dj at the time and being disgusted to find that the music to this rap is supplied by THOMAS DOLBY.... a notable POP singer songwriter of the early 80's ....check that out !!!
I'm from Scotland and not exposed to much rap unless I search for it lol. All I can say is classic rap/hip hop shits all over todays goons that call themselves rappers. I mean I've not heard a single lyric reffering to a ho or gun in this entire track and it fucking rocks. Just my perspective on it :)
j'aime pas le rap mais bon ça je connais par coeur comme toi nos années 80 ... j'avais volé le 45 tours à Montlaur à l'epoque on les mettait dans nos pantalons ..héhé ..it's all magical wand !!!!!!!!!!
very kooooooooooool vid and good to see it even if its not the best one ever made but its a shame the sound keeped droping out anyway luved seeing it';-)
Grand Master Flash's "The Message" was the first rap video that came out in summer of 82, "Magic's Wand" video came out in late 1982. "Magics Wand" was the first rap video to have dancers and to be very intergrated of which was extremley rare in 1982. Other than BET and USA's Niteflite, this video was no where to be viewed in the US when it first came out and the former was not fully established nationally.
I really like this rap, but I'm soo glad I didn't see the video, where are the black girls. I mean for real. I loved Whodini and if I would have known they only had one black female I'm sure that would have made me think twice. I spent many hours with there music and now I'm thinking they could care less about us coloreds.
@hoopsgrown32 You know that was not their call.Slappy glad hands said we love what your doing but you need a more universal appeal so they threw in some out of place white folks took out a couple folks and after that it was still probably too black for mtv.All that early 80 s rap got so diluted look at some of those rap movies it was the same breakin, disorderlies. The late 80s afrocentric hip hop was overdue.
There were plenty of black women here (especially in the begining when the woman is having a Rap Attack). This video was very integrated compared to their future videos that you probally missed some.

@bassmzero The "gangsta" stuff ruined graff, break-dancing, and DJing? Lies. NWA expressed a lot of truths about the issues going on with african-americans in certain areas.
I listen to underground intellectual conscious rap, but I'm just stating the truth with the comment above.
@031limit031 There's a difference between conscious rap and gangsta rap. Conscious rappers don't rap that aggressive "nigger" music. Break-Dancing, DJing, and Graffiti are nowhere near as popular as they used to be. If the music keeps moving the direction it is, those will be die too.
@bassmzero Yes, there is a different. Thing is, aggression is a strong factor in creating change. You can't ignore the emotions that we already have. Groups such as NWA brought both positivity and negativity into their words to raise issues such as "The Conflict Theory" and clashes between the rich vs the poor, and issues with authority figures such as police.
A lot of conscious rap has lead to violent actions such as during the G20 protest.
@bassmzero The only difference is that there is less ignorance when it comes to conscious rap. There is a more peaceful aim (which is better), yet rappers such as NWA and Tupac brought an aggressive approach to the situation to gain ATTENTION from those who were blind to the issues.
@bassmzero Sadly, today's music has became even more of a sell-out. It is all about Consumer-ISM-ISM-ISM... Greed corrupted our music. I still show love to the gangsta rap in our past-time, as it at-least brought awareness to multiple issues. Know what I mean? It just contained stereotypes on the side, which was a mess-up; yet, it brought along movements.

Well, rapping's always been around
(Well, it says that it's big time now)
Every neighborhood had its own crew
(That meant you against me) and me against you
(They would jam every weekend at the neighborhood center)
And charge a small price for the crowds to enter
(The parties would be packed inside and out)
To see who was best at rockin the house
