  • My favorite Survivor song!!

  • best solo...still have this 45 in the picture sleeve, so glad to see this vid.

  • At their best ! Solo is beautiful !

  • Question: Is there another version of this video? I remember seeing more sequences of the band. I also remember seeing a lot of the singer with his flashy beret during the opening lyrics of the song.

  • Perfect Hard Rock Music!!!!!!!!

  • @ClassicRockVw yeah : )

  • the drummer kinda looslike Kelly Keagey form Night Ranger

  • LOVE that opening riff....As much as I enjoyed the Jamison years, NOTHING beat the Peterik/Bickler/Sullivan/Droubay/Ellis years....except maYBE THE Peterik/Bickler/Sullivan/Johnson/Smith years :-) Self titled, Premonition, Eye of the Tiger, & Caught in the Game are classics

  • 3 people are obviously not caught in the game

  • いや、たまらん

  • You know, I've always loved this group! Thank you so much for posting this vid. I do wish there was a live dvd because I never did get to see them.

  • Survivor is far from a one hit wonder band. Eye of the Tiger may have been the only hit with their original lead singer, but after that I dare say they had 5-6 Top 20 songs.

  • Wow,that is a killer riff right there.Too bad Survivor got demoted to a one-hit wonder now.

  • Love love love the drums in this song...bang the crap outta my dashboard when this comes on..LOL.

  • great music 80's :}-

  • I lost The Game.

  • great song and so much better than eye of the tiger

  • Dave Bickler may the real man of genius, but he will always be Survivor's greatest singer.

  • This song was not a hit!? Jackie Don't Go was not a hit!? What was the radio/ record buyers thinking in 1983?!

  • You can really hear the Schenker influence in the ending solo to the song

    "Burning Heart" (Rocky 4 soundtrack)

  • Didn't Dave Bickler front a hair metal band after his Survivor days?

  • This is one of the greatest solos !

  • Put on Survivor and JAM OUT!!

  • survivor what a group. 1 of the best in the 80's

  • wow so awesome

  • Hard-Aor Forever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • We're all caught in the game. And we've all lost it.

  • how good was this song and album? these lads should have been huge!

  • NICE!!! Just as heavy as "Eye Of The Tiger" and "American Heartbeat"!!! Why couldn't this chart as high as "I Can't Hold Back", "Burning Heart, and "The Search Is Over"??? By the way, what ever happened to David Bricker???

  • @ultramanhayata1 Dave Bickler left Survivor because he had problems with his voice. He eventually underwent surgery on his throat and returned to Survivor for a few years in the 90's. Then he did the Budweiser: Real Men of Genius commercials. Been very successful.

  • Toto, Survivor, Journey...........etc., what a great era of music. Never again.

  • @drumsport aint that the truth

  • @drumsport So true. What we have now, crap like Nickelback, Hinder, Blue October, etc, will never compare to the likes of Survivor, Journey, REO Speedwagon, Styx, Toto, Kansas....

  • i love

  • Que de souvenirs...

  • Caught in the incredible 80s. Has there been any real style since?

  • @modspell Not that I'm aware of. If you discover any please let me know!

  • @rg2027x Only good band that cam in 2000 were skillet. Otherwise, I don't know

  • @modspell I agree! So glad I got to experience the 80s! They were the BEST!!

  • Why does the beginning remind me of R&B? I guess the echo. But yeah love the song. And the whole album.

  • I told Nuno years ago that this is my favorite guitar solo, he should cover this....he looked at me so dumbfounded???? You have that 45???? Oh yeah!!!!!!!!

  • OMG i love that solo!!!!

  • Well I like this song i grew up on this song like in college ..... And that guitar solo Dude It Rocks!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • this record is still jamin just as hard as it was 27yrs. ago.

  • too bad that surviror think they are anything without Jim peterick

  • bixler.

  • Indeed, great guitar!

  • @triuman Don't forget about the man playing the skins. Killer drumming.

  • @Dildgaf Agree! I hit the wrong damn thumb and mistakenly gave a thumbs down on your comment...Should of been a thumbs up!!! Hot drum and guitar sound, always been one of my favorite songs of all time ;-)

  • @triuman No problem man, that brotha is straight killin' me with that deep ass backbeat. Dayum this is good. Killer sticks.

  • @triuman Man. Survivor was in a serious driving groove on this track. From the lead singer, bassist, keyboardist, guitarist, and drummer. The bassist has got his groove on lock.

  • Killer guitar solo ! Oh yeah... The babe wearing the black hat :) Sexy :)

  • great survivor tune.

  • one of the best tunes ever..

    thanks for the upload!

  • You're welcome. Thanks for listening : )

  • That opening lick destroy me every time! The last hurrah with Bickler :-(

  • yes, a definite Schenker influence -- but I hear alot of Toto's first album in this song too

  • good one! never seen this one before!

  • It was a welcome change of pace to see that this wasn't from a Rocky film.

  • HE HAS A LOT OF MICHAEL SCHENKER IN HIM

  • yeah...good point. Those early MSG albums are the shit! Great arrangements & musicianship throughout. Still listen to 'em..

  • Personally, I liked this album better than "Eye Of The Tiger".

  • Jesus I forgot how good Frankie Sulivan is, Need I say more?

  • Great upload. I still listen to this albulm. Yes, on vinyl.

  • I agree they had so many great songs . But most people only follow pop culture . And EOTT was all they cared about . Shame

  • This album is amazing. Survivor should be remembered by these amazing albums and not the eye of the tiger.

  • and by vital signs and when seconds count too!

  • I've always liked this song, but it's such a silly 80s-style video.. looks like they edited together the outtakes from a video about how to play craps

  • This was from a time when it was about the music, about talent and musicianship. When bands would focus energy on songwriting, arranging and musical quality. Not slick production hollywoodized TV videos.

Videos took a back seat to the actual song those days..

  • chcicago group.

  • HIndsight is 20/20 eh?

  • Great work on the Les Paul Frankie... you can hear the heart..its what is sorely lacking form todays music

  • Absolutely..He just goes for it. Very lyrical & inspired.

When was the last time you heard an actual *guitarist* (not a robotic computer facsimile) take a rippin', emotional solo in todays business class "music" ?

    LOL! not gonna happen.

Guitar solos would be too "offensive" for todays de-volved masses.

The solo (if any) would have to be toned down, compressed and sanitized to a trite little whisper in the background, lifeless so as not to "offend" anybody or hurt their ears...lol

  • "Guitar solos would be too "offensive" for todays de-volved masses".

    Great quote!

  • Thanks : )

Thanks for noticing... When was the last time you heard a guitar player take a solo like that, in today's 'music' ? Just crank up and go for it. Seems to be a lost art..these times

  • My pleasure, I think I might have already made a comment on this vid refering to Jimmy Page saying in today's music there aren't any guitarist today who could play a solo like this, so true. I just love how that Gibson sounds...wow.

  • @TSOfan I do too...What a guitar tone. I miss the days of inspiring guitar solos in popular music! Agreed, not many of todays guitarist could play a solo like that...with feeling and such great note choices. I hear a lot of them playing 1000 notes per second though! Like a typewriter. It's all about speed and who can play the fastest anymore.

  • Yep, alot of guitar players/fans feel the faster the better. As you might already know I'm a big TSO fan, their guitar player Al Pitrelli said it best. He would rather play one note with feeling, which can say so much more than a bunch of notes fast. Oh, one other thing worth mentioning about not having guitar players today who can play a great solo...continued. .

  • ...continued...I don't think we will see anymore at all. The "Guitar Hero" game pretty much put the final nail in the coffin lid on any new good guitar players blossoming

  • Sadly this is a forgotten song, lost between the mega success of "Eye of the tiger" and the resurgence of "Vital signs". Thanks for uploading it!

  • You're quite welcome. Thanks for listening & enjoying it. " : )

Music is the higher soul power.

  • that drummer is tough!

  • Totally agree with description wen u say gr8 gitar work. Also a prety good vid

  • thats an interesting gameboard.

  • "real men of genius"

  • Epic song! Amazing guitar solo. Survivor is a great band, needs more comments!

  • Good Solo but needs a better introduce and it's VERY short!

  • Dave almost doesn´t appear in this videoclip.

  • it's not shit :( thats good rock~music =)))

    ...greetz from germany

  • This album was produced by Frankie himself. It is a guitar driven album. One of their best!

  • Totally underrated group; tight as hell. The drummer looks and acts like one of my best friends...lol. Glad to hear the vocalist on those beer ads tho. "Real Men Of Genius" I've been looking high and low for this vid...thx alot!

  • bixler is from the chicago area. survivor is an off shoot from the ides of march, a chicago band from the 70's.

  • This guitar solo made me want to start playing guitar when I was 15 years old. It's all about the feel. Damn skippy

  • Oh yea, the solo is incredible...most likely Les Paul, Marshal distortion. It's a damn shame people don't understand this is REAL talent as opposed to what is expected of artists today. Thanks for the video too!

  • This truly is hands-down the best Survivor song ever!

  • Yeah it's cool huh? I love the guitar solo. The entire riff and arrangement is killer. Thanks for listening to the good stuff : )

  • Cool!

    pigmydmm

  • Yeah : )

    Compare to today's 'music'..

  • Bring's back alot of memories

  • Yup...good times. Life was so much more hopeful back then.

  • Dave has a new cd coming out soon. The two songs I've heard are really good. Dave is the best singer.

  • Really? Didn't know that I'll have to check it out.

I agree, the original is still the best! Nothing beats Dave rockin' out on Children Of The Night or Take You On A Saturday. Just timeless, classic tunes and killer vocals when it used to be about the music

  • One of the best underrated guitar solos in music history. It simply owns. No its not flash pan. Its rock. I will never get that solo out of my head...

  • it kills huh? one of the first I learned back in the day when I took up guitar. got such a great feel and he hits all the right notes in all the right places! I like how they cranked the guitar in the mix when the solo comes up. we just don't get that level of songwriting and musicianship in what passes for 'music' nowadays..

  • Everything these days are Nickelback clones. Boring acoustic wannabe Eddie Vedder guys.

Music isn't fun anymore, it takes itself so damn seriously.

  • This song "should" have been their biggest hit. It was to me;) Glad to find others on the same page~peace

  • Nothing wrong with it! Smoking old-school tone from a Les Paul, probably through a Marshall amp. I love how every note is just played with passion and fury and MEANS SOMETHING. So many players in that era were really, really fast but how many really had something worth saying?

  • Yeah,,I hear ya.. I'd rather hear someone play with dynamics and killer phrasing than 1000 note per minute chainsaw. Shit gets old after 10 seconds. I'm pretty sure a Les Paul and JCM800 were used for this song. Cranked of course. Best way to light up the tubes and get THE TONE! Are there any guitarists who come close to this level of playing today? In terms of feel and tone

  • Sure nice to see that some of us dinosaurs are still around...lol..Remember what it was like to have that freedom? Where did it go?

  • The Eighties definately had some great guitar players. Gotta love how he digs out those notes!

  • Yeah...You had to have a shit hot guitar player in the band back then. Now it's like ??? you know? lol...

The timing and feel of the solo is incredible. He just cranks it up and goes for it. Of course it's probably meticulously composed and tracked 4 -5 times for all we know! But it doesn't sound mechanical and contrived which is what counts. Peace, -=RG

  • When you hear these old guitar solos and the great sounds they came up with back in the day and the creativity they had it's unbelievable how certain solos stick in your head forever. Is anyone ever going to say someday: "wow I'll never forget that riff in that Nickleback song." Someone spare us and bring back real rock guitar to music. Modern rock has used the same guitar sound for 10 years. When Jimmy Page was asked why don't we hear any good guitar solos anymore he said simply, "they can't"

  • True!!!

  • Nice post dude.

  • Cool..Thanks for checking it out! Taped off TV YEARS back. On VHS (remember those? lol...)

  • AOR as it should be!!Peace

  • Damn!! I miss the classic sound of a Les Paul from rock music!

This makes me want to go buy Les Paul and learn this tune!!!!!

  • just another cool song by Survivor

  • Foreigner is equally as awesome as, but far less underrated than, Survivor.

  • The song is cool bur there were too many under-rated bands from the 1980's (in particular were Foreigner with the magical voice of Lou Gramm as lead singer!)

  • Wow! They're so young!

I agree that Survivor was very under-rated. They just don't make rock bands like that anymore.

  • oh they do make rock bands like that...just corporate big wigs won't push them to the front like they did in the 70's and 80's...just check out scott sudsbury sometimes

  • Just got Jimi Jamison's solo album "Empires" in the mail the other day. Must say, it's a worthy release. Too bad hardly anyone heard of it. My guilty pleasure is the theme from "Baywatch."

The big-wigs should stand up and take notice.

Will have to check out your recommendation.

    Take care!

  • "Empires" is a good release."Crossroads Moment" the new Jimi Jamison solo album is awesome.Featuring Jim Peterik too!!!

  • great song, one of my fav guitar riffs. these guys were great .

  • Great solo too. There is a live version floating around on YT you may want to check out.

  • Search 'Survivor- Hungry Years' a song from the Greatest Hits when David Bickler returned. An overlooked Great Song with Great race vid of Kidzilla

  • holla at yo koala

    LOL what!! X.x oM

  • I always liked Survivor - sadly, they were more known for their softer stuff and their Rocky items, which brought them $, but declining respect.. it's a gamble they took, I guess.. This is my fave of their songs.

  • When I came to visit this video today, it said that it had been removed and when I revisited it a few minutes later, it came back =D. Yay, hehe, I was going to cry if it were removed because it's the only video I could find on here, ^-^.

  • I would cry too! As it was taped off TV years ago from an old VHS tape. Hopefully that won't soon become "illegal" "terms of use violation" "infringement of the violation of' whatever ; - )

  • Thank U

  • I dont think a reunion will happen :( Bickler isnt likely to rejoin . And Jimi left i believe due to issues over the rights to the bands name with Frankie . But atleast both sides are still touring !

  • If you're looking for this line up, you want Dave Bickler on vocals. THE singer of Survivor.

  • absolutely..

    watch?v=zl08yPMlpwk

  • Dave is cool of course.I think he had some drinking problems back in the day.

  • I don't know what the guitar players name is(was) but I always thought he was fantastic. He had his own tone. I wish I could get my Strat to sound like this.

  • Frankie Sullivan my friend.

  • I love this song more than sex.

  • This whole album kicks... just picked it up last month for the first time! I was 4 when this came out. One of the best bands ever!

  • For the person that is 18, you did miss some of the best music ever, but your lucky you have youtube. I was lucky enough to see Survivor in concert on the Vitel Signs tour. They open up for REO Speedwagon, possible the best concert I ever saw, and I saw some great shows in the 80's. Brings bach alot of memories. Thanks for posting.

  • You're welcome. Thanks for appreciating. Remember when you could say "survivor" without people thinking 'TV show' ? lol. Survivor always rocked live. Saw 'em many times back in the day. They had such great stage presence and could play and sing like no other. The energy coming from the stage was just incredible. You could feel it. We just don't get music that good anymore.

  • what is that game they are playing??

  • awful video, great music.

  • excelent!

  • Your right Guys got out of High School in 1978. Alot easier and better times all together. The De-Evolution is Right. Miss those days. Will always have the Music and just the Memories and no more Awesome times. Great song have all the albums.

  • ...just imagination?

Or did your eyes burn a little too bright,

    for purely conversation?

  • off topic but man, why don't you upload videos of your guitar ? ;)

  • im 18 so i wasnt even born when this music was around but FOR FUC* SAKE! whats happened to music today its crap everything from the 80s is incredible same for the 70s i wish i could live through those times

  • could not have said it better myself

    p.s im 18 too

  • What an Excellent underated "Hard Rock" band, Pre-Vital Signs. Great vocals, melodies and Guitar solos! -MAVIII(progulus.c o m)

  • This is a very good depiction of how the 1980's was, the music and the gambling downside due to voodoo economics. The 1980's was a bad depression, but so was 2002 to 2007 (present). I miss the '80s, it wasn't as screwed up as today. +5

  • ..+100!

Totally...I miss the good 'ol days, 70's, 80s..((sigh)) Music was SOOO much better, creative.. more real & pure. Not as much bull shit going down either.. Lotsa happy, memorable times. Nowadays it's like "WTF happened?!?!" LOL.

    de-evolution I guess..

Anyways, cool we still got the music. It's what keeps me sane in this world gone -=FUBAR=- heh. Peace,

  • Unfortunately the '90s came but fortunately went. Howver that decade killed music as we knew it.

  • I liked Caught In The Game

I liked I Never Stopped Loving You even better. Haven't seen that one on YouTube though.

  • I might have that on VHS somewhere..see if I can find it

  • That'd be awesome! Thanks!

  • Np ":-)

If I can scare it up somewhere

    it will appear here!

    Cheers,

  • Guitar solo 'effin ROCKS!!!

  • Just kills doesn't it. I've learned it note-for-note to pay my respect ":-)

  • didn't care too much for the vid but i like the song

  • Awesome song, Survivor is the best!!!!!

  • thay have that ufo vibe

  • The guitar solo on this song is one of the best put together solos I've ever heard! It fits the groove nicely, isn't flashy, but is extremely expressive!

  • Absolutely...I saw Frankie do this live years back, mid 80's..CRANKED..Les Paul + Marshall stack..the piercing energy coming from that stage was undescribable...you could feel the air move! Intense.. This was LONNG time before the Internet, cell phones, computers...but man, what a concert..The guys played like their life depended on it.. Such great stage presence too. Standout was the kickass 'Caught In The Game' solo tho..

  • frankies my best friends uncle =]

  • WHAT?!?!?!?!?! get hooked up and hang with Sullivan!!

  • haha. yeah...

  • You're really lucky! I am a huge fan of Frankie Sullivan. Plus, I have this sneaking suspicion that he's related to my teacher. They sound, act (behaviors and even hobbies such as fishing) and even look alike, not even kidding. (I heard Frankie on the radio so I know what his voice sounds like). He's one awesome guitarist by the way. =)

  • I meant Frankie's an awesome guitarist. I don't think my teacher is in to guitars but I don't know. Haha never know... he might be...

  • Tell Frankie that a crazy fan from Greece is sayin that SURVIVOR RULEZ!!!

  • I'll pass along the message ; ) Yeah Survivor is great. Premonition, Eye of the Tiger (albums) just excellent musicianship and songwriting all around. Kick ass guitar riffs too. Thanks for listening..
