No, son. The stars are supposed to indicate use of a "Spring Pad Lubricator" (a Southern Pacific specialty only!)- which consists of a wool carpet-like oil pad with wicks dangling down into a bronze or aluminum oil sump. The lubricating pad is pressed against the bottom of the axle by an "X" frame and coil springs. The significance of the star on the wheel center of 425's drivers means absolutely NOTHING. In essence, it was a failed attempt to mimic the SP, and is NOT original to the 425.
Terrific vid. At times, the whistle sounds like Union Pacific 844's Hancock 3 chime whistle. I love those whistles, but they remind me of now-retired locomotives like C&O 614, Frisco 1522, Norfolk Southern 611, Norfolk Southern 4501, Norfolk Southern 1218, and Cotton Belt 819. They may never run again, but let's all keep our hopes up and pray to God that they do return to steam. God bless their cold boilers, empty cabs, chilly tenders, and lifeless fireboxes. Good luck.
