  • Sam is smoking hot! I popped my flash when I saw her :)

  • I’m not a Nikon hater but the Canon shots look better...

  • Sam is so beautiful !

  • There wouldn't be a problem with a shadow on the subject with built in flash if the big ass lens hood was removed

  • +1 like for saying aaaabishek and india :D

  • The 7D is a Semi pro, not a consumer.

  • Great video, really informative.

  • Ref At 15:04 and before that, At 11:41

  • Seriously, how many of the photos you are placing in the video are the ACTUAL ones you took then and there? She's smiling and then NO she looks like she's auditioning to and extra character on Twilight and then she's frowning, you take a photo and then NO she is smiling just like she is on a happy pill! Lol WTF!

  • On a Canon camera you can also set flash exposure compensation, which on the less expensive models requires you use the 'set' menu navigation. In all manual/priority modes, there's a block at the right side of an EOS500/550/600D's menu that is empty if your flash compensation is set to 0. If you adjust it,t he opposite of exposure compensation is true; flash duration will increase/decrease while exposure time will remain the same, wheras exposure comp. makes your exposure/quicker slower.

  • Great lesson. And wow, this Sam is amazing!

  • So helpful!

  • I am disappoint .. .. This is very vague and bad explanations on how to control your lighting, Aperture controls flash exposure, shutter speed controls ambient light exposure.. watch Zack Arias' One Light Workshop videos, or even buy the DVD ..

  • Super info regarding reflectors ,thanks.

  • For the latest updates and tutorials in photogrphy please visit elitemultimedia.mobi or visiit our you tube site and dont forget to sub and leave us feed back.

  • for some reason I like this sam a lot

  • I have a Canon, Does it matter whether your on AV or Tv modes when inside w/ a speedlite ?

Wondering why Mark set it on TV instead of Av this time?

Im just a beginner so pls forgive if its a stupid question.

    thanks

  • @acuna13 When shooting indoors with Tv mode, exposure compensation adjusts the aperture (how large the diameter of the light hitting the sensor, and subsequently the amount of light) instead of shutter speed instead of the opposite in Av mode. As you may know, a smaller aperture number = more light but also = narrower depth of field. Using a flash you can use a larger aperture number = less light (flash compensates for this) = wider DoF.

  • You should have a read through your camera's manual and try out its examples pertaining to using Av and Tv mode, then consider how flash and exposure compensation and their respective changes in either mode would affect your scene. Flash compensation makes things lit by the flash brighter/darker, exposure compensation makes things not lit by the flash brighter/darker. Tv mode's compensations change Aperture (DoF) while Av mode's compensations change shutter speed or flash duration.

  • Canon is the best! haha!

  • Love your show!

    Great tutorial!

  • @snapfactory Can we get the same results with a fluorescent continuous light or hot lights? I mean that tip you showed us to dark backgrounds, can we obtain the same effect using a hot light?

Your show is the No 1 congrats!!

  • thanks for sharing..: )

  • I much prefer how the flash system works on Canon after seeing this video. On my Olympus I have the option to tie the flash and exposure compensation together or not.

  • Hi Mark, Question. Will these techniques work with a third party flash on a canon?

  • Great video i to am enjoying Photography and all it has to offer.

i have found a small website thats just started seems like a

good place to learn and share some info on Photograph check it out

----> tutorialonphotography . com they even send you some cool

site like night painting with your Camera

  • whats the flash setting?

  • This tutorial would be useful only if you have the same brand flash. If you're using a third party flash, this tutorial can't be used when shooting outdoors. Indoors is still usable... thanks!

  • Why would you ever turn FP off?

  • Hi I so I was wondering for the exposure compensation on a canon camera, does the camera have to be in apature priority mode in order for the background to dim out? Can it be done in manual mode and if so how can I do this?

  • If I buy a 3rd party flash (Nissin or Metz) for my 60D, will the Exposure compensation still control the ambient light only, or does that feature only work in conjunction with the Canon Speedlites? Great videos, been a real help.

  • i have a nikon d5000 and i don't see the flash option?

  • Hi snapfactory, Mark i find your vids very helpful, but i have a question, i have an opportunity to shoot for a local autobody fabricator and he has asked me to shoot a couple of his products he has made in his shop. I use a nikon d90 and would think lighting would be an issue, and he wants to use a black background to shoot his items and worries about flash glare on his products, how would you approuch this project

    Thx

    Martin

  • @zuprmn6

martin, you should take a look at Episode 34...

  • My d7000 doesn't have the autofp option?

  • Thanks Mark. Did you have the flash in manual mode for these shots?

  • Bananas are cool. Thank you Mark.

  • nice work Mark, I like all your tutorials...they really help me learn and improvise on what i have learnt so far!! thanks..

  • Simply Superb! Great video.

I learned a lot from you. Keep up your good work!

  • I am finally up to date with the episodes of the series .. I've really learned a lot watching them, I am very grateful to Mark and Adorama, can you believe I saw all the episodes in less than two weeks? I'm very anxious about next week's episode. I add that unfortunately I still do not have a DSLR. but I'm pretty sure I'm ready to buy ... thank you very much once again. Hugs from Latin America.

  • Hi Mark. Thanks for your wonderful videos! I learn a lot from you. You are a spectacular teacher (And thanks to adorama too).

I would love to have your studio lighting essentials videos, and I would gladly pay what they cost to DOWNLOAD the files. But paying that just to watch them in you tube feel a little too much for me, It is like I wont own anything for what I paid. So please could you sell them on dvd or something? Thanks!

  • @kauxkaux There is a physical DVD you can own. studiolightingessentials is the website for all the info.

  • @snapfactory Oh, ok thanks! I am so buying it! :)

  • I thought I knew everything about on-camera flash, but after watching this video I just realized I was missing a few things. Thanks for taking the time on explaining all of this :)

  • thank you Mark! I gotta try this once.

  • When hes taking photos with Canon the girl has wavy hair, on nikon pics she has pin straight hair :P

  • 2:07 in d200 it's in Flash Sync Speed and then 1/250s (Auto FP)

  • Mark, I had been learning here more than in my photo school, thank you very much! btw, wich flash do you recomend for a k7?

  • Question: is it better to go for a hi end Point and Shoot (with viewfinder etc. eg. SX30 IS) than a DSLR?

  • Canon7D Consumer camera???? Are you crazy???

  • @vestrelado what is it then? semi-pro? 5d is for that.... The only pro-bodies in digital Canon line-up is 1D(s) models.

  • @vestrelado I thought of the same thing!

  • @vestrelado Yes, it's a consumer camera. It's a classification given by Canon. If you go to the Canon website you'll find the 7D under the "Consumer & Home Office" lineup. All brands have the consumer class and many of the cameras are over $3,000. Price is not the determining factor. :)

  • @vestrelado Don't get hung up on the semantics. The NY Times recently had photos from an iPhone on the front page. An iPhone isn't a pro camera but it was used by a professional. It's not the tools that are most important, but how we use them.

  • @snapfactory Imagine how annoying it would be for those looking for a product if cameras obtainable by the general public that are used primarily by professionals had to be thrown onto their own site or page. The 7D is not targeted at your average consumer; your average consumer cares only about 'consuming' or 'using' a product, which is what most consumers will do with a camera (never take it off full auto). 'Professional' targeted cameras have functions most consumers will never use properly.

  • @snapfactory In other words, no, I don't think even Canon would consider their flagship line to be 'consumer' oriented gear.

  • @vestrelado dude you're too much of a fanboy and/or affected by what others say about your beloved camera.

  • @vestrelado typical fanatic people

"beginners worry so much about the gear, professionals only care about the money, masters focus only at the light"

I think you might figure out which one suits you best.

    cheers

  • @DVL1507 Yes i am a begginer that lives only on photography ....sow what´s the problem...it wasn´t me that made a video about gear...

  • @vestrelado THERE IT IS!

the problem is, you comment too much without knowing the actual fact.

    got it?

It may be listed on "consumer" but who cares? as long as it can make good pictures then use it. Period.

  • @snapfactory Canon also has the 1Ds Mkiii listed under, "consumer & Home Office" and the 7D all the way down to the 50D listed under "professional imaging products" :-). I just get a kick out of how sensitive everyone is about what everyone else is labeling their gear as especially when it comes to bodies.... You wanna talk glass then thats a slightly different story. everybody and their dog HAS to have a "PRO" camera....

  • @tbonestalone My dog is happy with a P&S but when it comes to dinner he'll take steak over hamburger any day!!

  • @snapfactory it's not a consumer camera but a prosumer digital camera..

  • @snapfactory it's not a consumer camera but a prosumer digital camera..

  • @vestrelado sounds like you got insulted...

a 5DMKII is also a "consumer camera", but many "pros" use them. Meaning it's not a pro body (like the 1D). No need to get your feelings hurt.

  • @vestrelado no need to get so offended. Thnak him for putting efforts on sharing knowledge with us all.

  • Comment removed

  • @vestrelado no need to get so offended. i'll consider it as a pro just for ur shake.

  • @vestrelado The EOS 7D is a semi-pro advanced amateur camera. Not that it cannot be used for a pro use however it is not "Full PRO". To be fair the Canon website does not split the Pro from the Non-pro. You will find the full lineup under Consumer & Home Office. You will also find the D lineup undre the Pfofessional Imaging lineup with the exclusion of the Rebel Cameras. Very confusing!

  • Thanks for the video, very nice information :)

  • Wasn't this already posted :|

  • Very very nice!..........Thanks

  • Great tips on using a flash, thanks for the video!
