  • HAHAHA! This makes me laugh so much considering what hasselhoff is like now hahahah!

  • Wow im speechless

  • Oh my Goooddd I laugh until I cry every time I see this video.

"They'll never be able to separate Jekyll from HyyyyyYYYYYAAAUUUUUGHHHHHH HASSELHYDE SMAAAAAAASH!!"

  • I loveeeeeeeeeeeee u has hyde david exlence at your best babe!!!!!

  • This reminds me of Smeagol/Gollum.

  • I never would have thought, that David Hasselhoff could play that role, but he's the best Jeykll / Hyde I've seen so far!

  • I went to a workshop today where a 15 year old guy did a better performance than this!

  • The more I listen to this the more I like the Hoff's interpretation - the scream in particular was incredible, he brings intensity to the whole performance, and he's evoking a darkness in Jekyll that normally isn't there. He definitely doesn't have the voice, but he does so much right in this clip.

  • He's the only performer in this piece to throw in all those portamenti (the sliding from note to note) - it's pretty interesting, actually!

  • His voice isn't exactly the best in the business, and most of the other songs in the show weren't all that good, but this is actually pretty good, and he's got tons of passion in his performance. He also obviously has a strong wish to star in a musical, and he made that happen - I'm assuming - using collateral he earned from previous successes in his life, and I respect him for that.

  • I've seen a teenage performance that was better. Sorry.

  • HIs transitions are so clean. You look at the other performances, and each has its incredible moments, but none was as clear and clean as his were. He's obviously not a singer, but I was pleasently surprised. It's a difficult, crazy hard song and I think he did really well

  • i was a little skeptical of david hasselhoff, but i have to say i'm surprisingly amazed by this. he did a great job

  • LOL, I don't see Jekyll and Hyde. I just see David Hasselhoff. >.<

  • damn he raced through this, he was switching back and forth so much, it is almost like a dance move (back and forth, back and forth, back and forth) thank god they stopped the broadway production about 10 years ago

  • @GearsofTed My high school is performing it.

  • absolutely perfect - he is amazing

  • Hasselhoff's Hyde is amazing! don't really like him as jekyll though. I like cuccioli the best! I love the intensity of this song. I like the way how david sang it faster as compared to the original where it's a lot slower of a song. making it faster added to the drama of what is going on in the scene.

  • I have to say that the Hoff's singing isn't quite as noticeably good as the others are (Cuccioli, Evan, Warlow) but I really like how he uses his vibrato. I personally don't think that his Jekyll is the best, but his Hyde is great! I just wish he'd changed the voices a bit more.

One other thing - The lightning cues weren't the best as some points. Especially during Jekyll's last line (besides screaming) the lights didn't change until after he said "God damn you Hyde".

  • This song is a bitch to sing, But I think the Hoff did this pretty well! I've a friend who did this at a show and he did it in much the same way. I think the key to enjoying this song is to remember that though Jekyll and Hyde are one in the same they are so different they might as well be seperate people and it is the surpression of evil that makes us good and if that evil is released...well, you know what happens to Jekyll at the end

  • Well, way better then what I expected when I read the title.

  • If anyone thinks that THIS sucks... they don't know the meaning of the word.

Listen to Paul Nicholas's version... now THAT sucks...

  • I agree, this song is HARD! Hasselhoff does a great job! I was real impressed watching this the first time, and he truly can sing and act! And the man was 49 years old here!

  • It really Annoys me that people are so quick to call hasslehoff bad... I don't particularly like the guys history but besides all that w are listening to a voice an acting he is Jekyll and Hyde not David. Past all that I like this rendition of the song the most it could be better but when I listen to the other versions the lack of belt and power maakes me get bored and leave the page

  • Man....this is BAD

  • @moninblue no, it's not. it's really good

  • The lighting Cues Suck..... Just saying

  • I think the negative comments stem from the fact that David Hasselhoff can't sing his way out of a paper bag, cannot carry off this particular scene at all. and he is but a pallid imitation of the true performer of Jekyll/Hyde - Robert Cuccioli.

Hasselhoff struggles with this, is awkward at the worst moments, talks as much as sings, and has no sense of timing. Why they made a dvd of this tripe is beyond me, when Cuccioli is perfect.

Bottom line - man can't act, man can't sing.

  • i think its fantastic

  • Oh gosh, so overdramatic and hammy! I LOVE THIS!

  • Lack of technique aside my main problem with the "hoff"'s performance here is he is far to cartoony. It's Warlow and Cuccioli's realism touching true emotion that make it good for me.

  • this song is one of the hardest to perform.. O.o and he really did a good job! I like his voice and acting in this scene

  • why is everyone so negative about him? despite the fact his vibrato sounds like a sheep at some points the overall performance is amazing. and its easy for everyone to slate him but how many of you are on (i'm assuming this is) broadway doing this 8 or 9 times a week

  • i think this is good, however my son did a fantastic job. just type in Taylor_Zako

  • Well that was interesting....

I've never seen David perform like that..

    The lighting was all cool..

I totally love the emphasis in the struggle between jekylls good and hydes evil.

Ha I see that they did there with his costume and hair..

  • I think the first half is a little too fast. The second half is incredible though.

  • Fail. Like, mega-fail. Hasselhoff is such a fucking bad singer and should not ever be doing musicals. His vibrato makes me want to stick chopsticks into my ears.

  • 2:23 um.......

  • Hasselhoffs talents give me a boner. What a performer

  • while i've seen better, this isn't a bad version of the song. the dramatics are brilliant.

  • this is one of times where your name is the only reason you make it on Broadway! No offense to those who like this, thats your opinion but I think this is utter trash. The lyrics are sung with such rushed and fragile sound, not to mention the fact he doesn't even know how to use vibrato right, he sounds like a worn out VHS tape. He has a decent energy in his acting but I guess he forgot this is a MUSICAL not just a DRAMA. But he did have the balls to do it so I will give him credit for that.

  • OMG IF ANY OF YOU THINK THERE IS ONE SPEC OF TALENT...YOUR SMOKING CRACK....hahahahahthis so sucks

  • @dmurray716 this is raw powerfull talent your the one that sucks the hoff is awsome through this whole performance. go keep your opinons to your fuckin self and leave the man alone......iam his fan u don't mess with me or the hoff....

  • hideous!

  • much ass is sucked here....

  • Pretty good considering the orchestra was rushing me and he only had a week of rehearsal.

  • He's horrible.

  • ~yay~ david sings this the best!!! =D i love this play!

  • hes soo awesome! I didn't know he could sing that good!!!

  • it's HASSELHYDE!!

  • @wickedwitchwest12323 good one

  • singing was terrible, but i really liked his transitions from jekyll to hyde.

  • So hard to see them as the same person!

  • I think the only problem I have with his performance is that there's no difference in his voice when is Jekyll or Hyde

  • @dohkosgo there's a huge difference - Hyde is far growlier, and Jekyll sound a little frightened through the whole thing.

  • I don't care what anybody says: this musical is awesome and so is David!

  • I was really impressed by this performance. I watched this musical on Broadway (an awesome show!!!) when it was still on, but when I watched it David Hasselhoff was not the lead yet. I saw this version later on when it came out on DVD, and I have to say, I think Hasselhoff did a good job. I was blown away by the show when I watched it live, and when I saw this I thought it was very similar to the thrills I got from the show. I've never been his fan, but being fair, he is pretty good.

  • this is absolutely amazing! david hasselhoff, you changed my opinion about you COMPLETELY

  • I think him and rob evan both had really good points in their versions. I liked how rob evan really seemed to have the split personality down, it was much more apparent and satisfying to me. However, Hoff's performance seemed more raw and unrehearsed, and how he switched from personality to personality while he was still singing was impressive. Overall, i'd have to say i like rob evan better, but Hoff definitely deserves props for this song. Both are amazing in their own way

  • I liked what he did with the role, and I will give him that he can sing very well, not as good as some, but not the worst ive ever heard.

  • I am not sure if I like the whole song, but do people agree that the way he sings the bridge starting from 2:02 is pretty awesome? xP

  • my best friend's brother did so much better than everyone.

  • He can sing. I'll give him that. But he had no business playing this role. He takes his own tempos, and he couldn't act in this particular role worth a damn.

  • :-( don't like it. but that's just me.

  • atleast he not too bad, but he's no warlow

  • Ehh. A very mediocre performance. Even the kid who played him in my high school's musical did better.

  • Goodness, is Hyde tickling a cat with that hand! ;p

  • SO FREAKING BAD

  • so...what happens at the end? does he kill himself?

  • @Fiondra NO. He manages to supress Hyde by drinking a full vial (the last of) his potion HJ7. Unfortunately it doesn;t last long and on his wedding day Hyde returns, grabs Jekyll's fiancee and after struggling with Hyde's persona manages to supress him for a monet he pushes his fiancee away from himself Then begs John (his best mate) to shoot him as he knows he'll never be free. John shoots him. Although in the broadway version I saw they changed the shooting to a limp sword stabbing!

  • @MIXOLYDIAN123

    Thanks! :D

  • I am actually a big fan of this rendition. He gives it everything he's got, you could be the most talented S.O.B in the business but I'd take 100% heart over 100% talent any day

  • What are the subtitles? Italian.

  • I have to say, this performance surprised me, I thought it would be much worse. Of course it's not as good as Robs Evan, but he still did a pretty good take on it, this isn't an easy scene either.

  • I think he isn't that bad But I think Rob evan is much better. Hasselhof just doesn't make that change in his voice like Rob does that's the reason i like Rob's version that much

  • I agree, the change in the voice makes a big difference. I also really love Rob Evan's movement. Rob Evan's transitions back and forth from Jekyll and Hyde feel smooth and natural, the Hoff's movement seems awkward and very unnatural. I think the Hoff could have learned a lot from the talented actors who played this role before him.

  • In don't like Hasselhoff performance as Jekyll but in this video is not bad. He act and sing good enough. But I think Broadway direction in a bit static (Watch the german version with Chris Murray, better direction and much better performer)

  • I gave this video 5 stars because i love the hoff's acting and there were some really good vocal parts too :D

  • Ist das da wirklich David Hasselhoff?

  • Nein. MauMau lügt.

    JA er ist wirklich David Hasselhoff. -_-;;

  • i think hes pretty good in this song actually but i really dnt like him in DANGEROUS GAME at all but in this song i think hes great

  • lol.

  • Okay fair enough hasslehoff was only given to part to try to and increase sales, and he's not the greatest singer in the world but his emotion makes the part his own! He gives it his own stamp and I can only applawd him! He does what any actor sets out to do which is to make the role believable!!!

  • I'm confused as to why there are so many negative comments on this video. This performance is amazing. So much raw passion.

  • Granted this was okay, I mean he did put alot of emotion into this , but Everything else......he screws up big time.

  • There are negative comments because he sucks!!!!!

  • @J2oLLa are you trolling us right now

  • @J2oLLa completely agree... Its David Hasselhoff so people basically have to bash it because of him and his personal life.... You have to remember people especially in our society can never seperate the two when it comes to some celebrities...

  • @J2oLLa There is so much criticism because when you compare him with Anthony walrow, It's like listening to down with webster and Led Zepplin and trying to figure out who is more of a legend. Nobody can do Jekyll & Hyde better than Anthony Warlow vocally, emotionally and theatrically. David was good, but if he were a middle school grade, he would be a B because he meets all the standards, where-as Anthony would get and A for meeting and exceeding the expectations for both Jekyll & Hyde.

  • Comment removed

  • @J2oLLaAre you kidding?! His acting is God-awful and the only thing that's worst than his acting in this is his singing! I've seen better acting from 5 year olds in community plays.

  • it has its good bits, but there are better versions

  • I think that Hasselhoff was pretty good at some parts, and that the song was difficult to do because of all the twisting (it would make breathing harder and strain the vocal cords on the long notes) and that he was really into the song, and very good at acting it. He did falter at times, but he was definitely not bad.

  • bad. simply bad. Antony Warlow is the BEST by far!!!!

  • I agree that He's not good but I think Evan is even worse. Wardlow is the best but I like the tempo at which the Hoff took it.

  • David's style is more raw and in fact has delivered a strong, powerful performance that builds up until the end. His shoulders are a bit stiff when he does Hyde if there is minor criticism. Rob's is more of a classically trained. He is more melodic and when Hyde comes in, you could feel the switch from good to evil. His Hyde is more creepy. However, the build-up is not as strong as Hoff's. Nevertheless, both have strong points and delivered a brilliant performance

  • When year was this?

  • 2001

  • my disappointment cant be expressed in words

  • Holy man, I got major chills.

  • hasselhoff actually does a great job here, sure the guy's kinda a douche bag and drunk loser, but give him credit where credit is due. He does put on a good performance in this and has a talented voice

  • wrong

  • love this performance. the music is great and kudos to david. i loved it<3

  • lot of flaws to the Hoff's performance but I do think his Hyde acting / singing in Confrontation 'aint bad!

  • "I'll see you THERE Jekyll!!!"

Best line in the whole movie. That line was so evil and awesome!!! I can't stop saying it!

  • I love this version. I've listened to the others and I love him more. I love the pacing and how awesome he is with Hyde.

  • I love this version I think It's amazing! I love how he really puts the characters into the way he sings. You don't always have to be a perfect singer to be perfect for a role. Sometimes an imperfect voice is a better choice.

  • terrible...his tone is all over the place.

  • I think that's kinda the point, I agree its a bit corny, but I love him doing it.

  • This is about the only song I like him in from Jekyll and Hyde. He was pretty good as Hyde but I don't like him as Jekyll....which doesn't work cuz they need to be good as both

  • Mon The Hoff

  • Actually, the Orchestra was the one going really fast. Not Hasselhoff. So he is the one trying to keep up.

  • dude you try singing for a hour and ten minutes and not speed up a bit and by the way when you run out of breath you start so speed up and stuff.

  • David Hasselhoff is a true artist! He puts all his love and soul in his roles!

    He is a misjudged talent!

  • Hearing this makes me feel good about MY performance (on my channel if you wish to spam it with all your comments about how awesome HasselHyde is -_-)

  • He did pretty good, I didn't know he could sing so well. Powerful. The hair looks ridiculous on him though, lol

  • omg i love hoff really bad from dinky the female chihuahua been fan of his over 30yrs

  • I feel like people are just set on hating Hasselhoff. He did fairly well in this I think....not that I am saying he did the best of anyone or anything. but he didn't suck.

  • especially considering that he had to carry both roles by himself.

  • Hyde was country and Jekyll was emotionless.

  • he sucks, he sucks really badly

  • The reason the put the hoff into this play is for promo reasons only! I'm a broadwY freak and he sucks at singing but why so you tbink the put mr. Depp into the sweeny Todd movie!?!?!?!?!?! So the could say "hey we have that dude who played in pirates of the Caribbean!" people fall for that stuff!

  • But...Johnny Depp was actually good. Everyone knows David Hasselhoff is a talentless hack.

  • johnny depp was definitely not good at all.....

  • he´s singing to fast and who wants to see his chest?me not

  • He's bad, like, bad.

  • I've heard, seen, been in various plays. I know when I see good acting, singing or not. I'll say he's rubbish. He'd be on the list of what not to do...There's many people who pull of far better performances.

  • I don't think Hasselhoff sucks at all. Considering how difficult it is to perform this role live, 6 days a week, for a few months on Broadway, he is quite good. Just my opinion.

  • Eh. He's not as good as Rob Evans. And he was going too fast for the band to keep up. His Jekyll was also very shaky as well as his voice in general. >: Heeee..........sucks.

  • i think the shaky voice would be intentional seeing that its sort of a transformation thing. fighting to control your "other side" I think he did well.

  • I agree with you. So much.

  • he's okay. I like his hyde voice. I think he is a bit ify when it comes to jekyll. He is good though.

  • Woah.... I was wondering why he was a judge for Americas got talent... I wasn't very impressed though...

  • I really like that. He is good.

  • I think he did a terrific job! Considering singing isn't his main profession he did a freakin' excellent job!

  • He does a great job as Hyde, his Jekyll is a bit warbling and the vibrato is used too much to extend his notes.

  • agreed. the hyde is quite decent but the jekyll is just...well, not good. although the portion where hyde and jekyll require the split second timing for "i live inside you forever" to about 2:22 is quite good. however, otherwise, i strongly disagree with the casting of hasselhoff as jekyll. anthony warhol- now there is the jekyll/hyde who made it an amazing masterpiece.

  • You have to respect him for doing it but I personally don't think he is that good, very shakey voice and very shoppy in my opinion...

    but deep respect

  • wow! what is this musical called? I know this song is called confrontation, because I heard a lady on classical radio talking about how surprised and impressed she was by seeing him in this play, but I don't think she ever mentioned the name of musical...

  • Jekyll & Hyde.

  • Jekyll & Hyde

  • wow... Hasslehoff should not be Jekyll and Hyde...

  • This is a great version . Respect for him. I saw this show in 3 diffrent coutries. But he´s good!!!

  • Comment removed

  • it sounds like he says run in hell insted of rot in hell. haha

  • personally, after i heard the origional version by Anthony Warlow, I could find one better than that. I don't think The Hoff did to great in Jekyll and Hyde, but thats just my opinion. Warlow all the way

  • once hyde comes into play, the rest of the song is reaaaallllly rushed. He doesn't sing enough either.... there's too many out of time sections... no offense to hasselhoff... but i do not like him as jekyll/hyde. Cuccioli all the way!!

  • anyone else think he looks like he's about to pass out in the middle of this? the poor guy looks exhausted

  • it's actually a very exhausting song, with all the turns and voice changes.

  • i kno if i tried to do this my lungs would collapse lol

  • I like this song and Hasslehoff's version is my favorite :D

  • I don't get why some people think that his version is terrible... Maybe I'm strange, but it's my favourite! He sings it very emotionally! But there are also some mistakes... for example in 1.57-1.58 he sings as Jekyll, but sounds like Hyde... but in spite of it is very good! especially at 2:21-3:20. And he's playing absolutely THE BEST of all. And I am not David's fan:)

  • This performance is entertaining. I give him kudos for not previously recording Hyde's lines like some performers.

This must be a fucking hard song to do.

  • this is one of the only songs he did pretty well. he has his moments and I prefer the pacing of this song to other versions

  • He was actually pretty good. The raw emotion that he managed was very good. Only wrong notes I heard was when he was really "fighting" with himself.

  • I'm not a big Hasselhoff fan at all.

    I dislike the guy.

And you mean Robert Carnucciali or whatever.

Yeah, he did great too -- in fact, his version is similar to Hasselhoff's from what I hear.

  • Would you people stop comparing him to others and appreciate this version as a stand alone?

It's not like your experts in such things - it *is* Broadway you know.

As long as trash music exists, I don't think anybody has the right to judge the few musicals that still find their way out of the studio.

  • HardToForgetMe is right. Quit comparing! Everyone has their own style and performance.

This is oustanding. Just because it's not what other's are used to doesn't make it awful. Jeesh!

I prefer this version anyway. It's faster, which makes it more complicated. So how could you NOT appreciate his effort?

  • Great performance... he really did a good job there...

  • That is some incredible lighting and make-up! I loved the contrast between the Jekyll and Hyde sides. That's just awesome.

Oh, and a good performance by Hasselhoff. I never thought I would see those "sides" of him.

    Haha! I'm awful.

  • that has to be exhausting!!!
