Met Jessie Owens last night at our gig in The Sunnybank Hotel Glasnevin Dublin. He was back in Ireland on hollidays . Now lives in LA. He got up and sang a few songs during the break and can still play and sing well, he also looks great for a guy in his sixties.
Anne and clairedelune49, My father played I Chose The Green endlessly when we were growing up. We knew all the songs. He still has his well worn and well loved copy. I recently found a copy for sale. Thanks for posting this and thanks for the beautiful music!
If you by chance read this, I just wanted to let you know that I have been a big fan of your music for many years. I am in California & first came to know of your music when I found one of your LPs in a record shop here in the 80's. I just couldn't stop listening to your beautiful voice! When I went on holiday to London & Ireland I sought out more of your LP's. I have about five albums & one at Abbey Tavern. I only wish your LPs were on CDs . Most of all I hope you are well.
I have just had the surprise of my life to hear the wonderful voice of Anne Byrne again. I followed her career with Jessie Owens and fiddle playing of Seamus gallagher in the 1960s. I sang all her songs and the songs of Joan Baez and Mary Black. I am sorry to hear that Anne is not well, I had wondered what became of her. All those wonderful days of Ballad Sessions at Howth in Dublin. Thanks for the memories Cora marshall
this is a message from anne byrne. i ma alive and well and appreciate your wonderful comments. Aunry Dolores is not eighty - she is in her early seventies. I am a youthful sixty six and suffering from cronic depression thus have had to give up recording and prefoming.
Welcome to YouTube Anne Byrne! We all find YouTube a great cure for depression. What a wonderful surprise to hear from you. Maybe some of your fellow artists you see here ( Judy Collins at 70, Joan Baez at 68) can inspire you to give us a new video or two?
@patrickpjr It saddens Me to hear Anne is not well as her Voice lifts me and probably so many others from our black gloom ! I don't pray but tell her she's in my thoughts !
@patrickpjr Taking up the guitar and singing got rid of my depression Anne. Tis a rotten Ilness, I can only wish you well. I'm just learning The Croppy Boy, of which your version is the best, I'll sing it in your honour tonight, and when I sing in Kilkenny on June 20th at Cleeres. I hope we'll hear you sing again
@patrickpjr great to hear that you are well sorry to hear about you problems with the darkness. Thanks for so many hours of musical bliss from a Marlborough Road neighbour of the 70ties now living in germany
Thanks for posting this! So lovely to hear. And even lovelier to read all these warm words too.
I agree. Such a shame her recordings are not available on cd. As far as I know a certain Irish record company owns the rights to all her recordings and they don't seem to be releasing them, for whatever reason.
I have been a hugh fan of Anne Byrne for many years. I have about 6 or 7 LPs some where she sings with Jesse Owens. No CDs as far as I know and I have been researching this for some time. I wish I could afford a player that converts LPs to CDs but don't own one.
She also sang with a group of folk artists in Ireland where they played at, The Abbey Tavern, I believe.
Well lightning94 - dunno if you're being sarcastic or not but consider that Anne is 64 now and her Aunt Dolores is in her 80's - don't think that will happen....
No I wasn't being sarcastic, I sincerely mean that. I'm glad that Aunt Dolores is still with us and where there's life there's song. I am the videographer for my 85 year old friend, the YouTube channel "tulifuli." He's still singing,'tho more for the message than the aesthetics. My best to Anne and Aunt Delores.
I purchased this album in New Jersey in the 1970's, and played it over and over. I still have it, and was very pleased to find Anne on You Tube. I, too, am a Byrne, and I am so proud to be a clansman of Anne's. Greetings to Anne and her kin from San Francisco, California!
I had almost forgotten about Ann Byrne, as I have not seen anything about her in years. I have the album shown above...I used to work in a record store outside Boston years ago. Does anyone know if Ann is still recording/performing?

What a wonderful voice! When I was younger, I was totally fascinated by her "Croppy Boy". It's so sad that she stopped performing after her marriage.
Is there a CD with her songs? I coudn't find one.

ClairedeLune,
Thanks for posting this beautiful, beautiful song. Do you have any more Anne Byrne songs you can upload here?
I know there are only two other Anne Byrne songs on Youtube.
Thank you.

Well why doesn't Aunt Delores sing into her computer mike and upload it for us to hear? I hope she is still with us.

Thank you very much for participating in our St Patrick's Day Film Festival.
What a wonderful clear voice Anne Byrne has.
You have made a strangely compelling short film here, centered on a song and a cover of an LP.
We wish you all the best.
