What a fucking joke, I don't want to be like logical or just have common sense or anything but what the fuck? so scrap all the films because you don't want another actor to play a part? yeah good idea, a actor died so lets go and just change the plot of the films completely or not carry on with the films, that's not fucking stupid at all.
Don't talk like that. I agree that there is nothing to do about the movies now. But they COULD have made Gambon look more like the Dumbledore in the first movies. Gambon said to Quaron that this is the way he interpreted Dumbledore and that's the way he's going to play him. And Alfonso Quaron let him do it. Now that's not what good directors are supposed to do. It's a great responsibility making a HP movie. Alfonso did not stay faithful to the book. He ruined the HP series.
You guys can thank Richard Harris' granddaughter for giving us the best Dumbledore we could ever have hoped for. He refused the part because he knew his heath was declining but his granddaughter who was a huge Harry Potter fan forced him to take the part and he accepted.

Richard Harris powns Gambon...I mean, it's not like Gambon is a sucky actor, but Richard Harris nailed the part. It would be sort of like comparing, I guess, Julianne Moore vs. Jodie Foster or Roger Moore vs. Sean Connery. But Gambon, I also thought, was not the best casting. Perhaps, after seeing him with a beard, Christopher Plummer? But I really think Chris Columbus, had he stayed, would've been able to salvage the character. P.S. Harris' beard is white, Gamdon's is like moldy hay..

I have no clue how you could have read the books and believe that Michael played him better than Richard. Dumbledore displayed extreme kindness, patience, and shed tears. Michael had Dumbledore damn near throttle Harry after his name came out of the goblet of fire; he was too forceful with the character and only pulled it together in the Half-Blood Prince.

At first he seems like this simple easy going witty slightly odd/insane wizard or eccentric u could say. Then he turns into a more moving active dumbledore in the latter series by dueling, traveling, protecting, searching caverns,ect, I think harris was perfect for the first 2 movies but i think only gambon could have pulled of the later series. Harris simply couldnt have kept up with the pace.
Neither Richard Harris or Michael Gambon bothered reading the Harry Potter books before playing Dumbledore, their respective performances are down to the directors. Besides, had Harris not died and continued to reprise the role I doubt he would've been comfortable with the stunt work in OOTP which Gambon managed to pull off.
one thing u dont realize is dumbledore was supposed to look really old. the man was 150 years old before his death. Did the directors know that they would later need a more active role for dumbledore to partake in the dueling? no. those books werent released yet. So columbus just went for a highly respected older looking man .

SPOILERS FOR DH--.. even if your character schemed and plotted Harry's skills as tools to his own benefit.
People just don't understand that Mike Newell misunderstood DD and that if Harris was alive, Newell would have still made him do all the things Gambons does. If Harris did shake Harry after being call from the GOF, all of a sudden it was the director's fault and Harris didn't mean to do it---something that happend to Gambon , and you all won't wake up to realize!

Harris couldn't walk 2 steps without dying. Voldemort would have sneezed on him and he would be dead. Gambon is energetic.
He is shouting because that is how the DIRECTOR tells him to act.

Actually JKR later realised she had miscalculated and that Dumbledore was, in fact 116 at his death.
I had no problem with Richard Harris for the first two, but by the third, a more able actor was definately required
