i managed to convince my parents to allow me to watch this when i was like 7 or something. I remember my mates parents saying how scary it was and i shouldn't watch it. i loved it & watched it a hundred odd times. Is it on DVD in the UK do you know? Thanks for posting this.

The Director and writer of the movie was making Germany's first special effects movie and decided to include some salutes to some of the recent U.S. movies that had come out....the movie includes nods to Star Wars, ET, and Close Encounters of the Third Kind.

In the Movie the Dummy was taking the children's deepest fears and making them real...the one kid was obsessed with Darth Vader (like many kids of that time) so that was the fear the Dummy made him face.

This movie also uses elements from "Dead of Night" (1945 horror anthology with an evil ventriloquist dummy), "Magic" (The anthony Hopkins horror flick), "The Haunting (1960)", "Poltergeist", "Scanners" and "Carrie". I think it's a well done horror fantasy flick with a dummy as scary as the dummy from "Magic".
