A week or two ago...I spilled a cup o tea on my laptop and have been out of commission. I feel your pain. I had internet trouble for months during the summer. They finally dug up the yard and replaced wiring. Computers are never simple.
Gin soaked raisins do the trick. No drinking... just eating. Hahahaha
Don't you have a spare cable, one from the old, one from the new? I have a bunch, trying to get a new modem from the cable company (at their request) had them sending boxes of wires with no modem. They did that about 3 times before finally getting the order right.
I used to be able to do anything to a computer but since the panic came back it takes a Xanax. Although I can still do stuff to other people's and new builds.

You've spent hours - at least I see that you are up and running again. These things make me crazy as well. In fact, I too, have a breakdown over these types of things. I can feel my blood pressure rising as I listen.
Oh Chris, I know how frustrating all that can be because I just went through that same thing yesterday. We went through it together . LOL Spent lots of time on the phone with three different people and finally one smart lady figured it out. I have a gateway that controls my wireless Internet and TVS. I had nothing working. It was the supply cord ( surge protector I had everything plugged into) That went out. Glad you got yours working to. So frustrating....
@longcara Well, for now I am just hooked up directly to the modem until we can get the router thing figured out. We only have the router so that my hubby can use his laptop at the same time as I am on the PC. Hugs!

Oh how frustrating! Whenever i have to call my ISP it's always a lady with the thickest Indian accent that i cannot understand and i feel this big black cloud descending on me, yes i have been there, into the deep dark place where you just KNOW that you're not going to sort out the problem easily
I got strangely excited listening to this tale of tech support and then there was singing, too. Whenever computer things go wrong ALWAYS start with the connections and cables. Now I can't get the image of you in the bowels of your PC out of my mind.
