A few bands play the Crosby, Stills, and Nash version of Joni Mitchel's Woodstock.

Ever heard a cover of Manfred Mann's blinded by the light? It was originally a Springsteen song.

While the Who covered it and I am sure that is how Vedder came to know it, the song is by the Holland-Dozier-Holland Motown writing team. They also wrote the Supremes hits "Baby Love", "Where Did Our Love Go", "Stop! In The Name Of Love" and others that sound similar.
