The violet testicular overload explosion is why it makes so much sense when Psychofreuds conveniently fallaciously attribute an individual with the status of "potentially dangerous" (although lacking past behavioral basis). Then they proceed to authoritatively impose celebacy upon the individual (if Freud wasn't the maddest ever, then Psycholo-created is the future crazed slayer)
Freud did not "introduce" the idea of repression. Like most of his ideas it was, shall we say, "derived" from already well-circulated ideas of the time. Wolfe should stick to talking about his stories.
What a tool. He presents himself as an important intellectual and all he can do is spew out basic Freud 101, found in any intro to psychology textbook.
I don't even think he manages that, although the pressure cooker/steam engine analogy is always helpful when putting the Vienese Valve into perspective
@lewis3367: What use is there in reviewing Freud beyond basic Freud101? Since it is all basically nonsense, an indepth study of the subject seem quite pointless. It is rather like gaining an exhaustive knowledge of phrenology.
You understand that the very foundation of Modern Psychology is Sigmund Freud's ideas right? (or perhaps some would prefer to say his synthesis of ideas). Now maybe his other ideas that distinguish him relative to that foundation were wacky, but so what?
@imblessedso: I doubt if it can properly be said Freud founded psychology. What mischief might be meant by a term of art like "Modern" or that you capitalized it, is a wonder. Sigmund Freud's are certainly AT the foundations of the developement of psychology. So are the ideas of Ptolemy at the foundations of astronomy. Both ideas probably hindered the developement of their respective fields.
Astronomy existed WELL over a century before Ptolemy, in what sense can Psychology have been said to have existed before Freud?
Saying that someone hindered something they pioneered is a bit off.
The ideas of a CLINICAL approach to something called the unconscious mind where feelings and instincts are repressed, often from childhood (protected by defense mechanisms) and curing through bring this material to the surface through the technique of Free Association. All Freud
Our entire frame of reference in modern Psychology comes from Freud/Psychoanalysis.
If you disagree, don't just make vague assertions. Give me the names of these supposed Psychologists previous to Freud that laid down these fundamental ideas.
@imblessedso: The talking cure has its value, it is cheaper to do it w/ a bar tender then a "psychoanalist." The essense of the psychiatric profession is creating the illusion you are listening & you care.
Think you got to reread freud dude, key to the sex drive is that it can be sublimated.

In terms of masterbation, Freud said that the only reason to be ashamed is if you do it poorly.

@oldoddjobs - David Duke just made a very informative video on Freud you can watch on my channel.

Well he "introduced" the only version of the idea of repression that would be recognizable in a modern psychology class.
