@Moviegirls789 Just try to have a positive outlook on it. I could have enjoyed it more when I was in but it was a little difficult. There is a lot of bs with the job but if you can move past it, you will be fine.
@EricCris10sen what do you mean by bs? was it the job you did or the people? sorry im just trying to get as much info as i can! happy vetrans day and thanks for replying btw :)
@Moviegirls789 The job was fine. The way the higher ranks were running our squadron wasn't something that I, or most of us, believed was safe or in the mindset of helping us. Not to mention they would tell us one thing, and when we do it, they would get mad at us and say we can't do that. Every job has b.s. I just didn't want to deal with it.
@EricCris10sen okay uhm im really considering this job...if i can put up with the bs it is fine? any tips to any pretraining i should do before hand? how do they decide your job in SF? if you suck do you get jobs like guiding traffic cause someone keeps telling me that?
@Moviegirls789 Yea, if you can put aside the b.s., you'll meet a lot of great people, and the job is actually fairly easy. I'll send you a message instead of on here
@Moviegirls789 Do not do it. I promise you you will regret it. There are so many better jobs out there. I will tell you right now that you will probably end up at a nuke base because that is where everyone is going now. Its boring as fuck, long exhausting hours, squadron leadership is retarded, and nobody likes cops. You might think I am exaggerating, but I wish I was. Security forces is one of those jobs that you have to get lucky with, few bases are good for it, most suck.
@BushyX It's because we're the police. That's the jiff of it. No one likes the police. And that's a definite no for the missile bases. You won't have a higher chance of going to a missile base than any other base out there. SF isn't the best job out there. That's well known. We get people who dropped out of other jobs. Or from people who got in trouble for whatever reason. My base was actually really nice. But hours were long, and the high ranks were complete fuckheads.
@EricCris10sen As far as nuke bases go, I know that the majority of teams out of tech school are in fact going to nuke bases. New guys are saying there entire teams were PRP. We just got a shit ton of people fresh out of tech school and are getting more soon. And a believe you that your base was nice, but you probably went to some PL3 base and actually got to do shit. My main point of my previous comment is to try other jobs out there before settling on SF.
@BushyX Got to do shit? I was at a base where they give training to pilots. We had about 150 or so jets there. That's all our base was for. Nothing else. For the majority for my time there, I was flightline and gate. Same as every new person that gets to base. For 3 whole damn years thats all I did. I know you're trying to prove a point. And i'm not denying the whole "experience" of the Security Forces. It's fucking boring, but imo the low ranking airmen is what made it somewhat worth it
@EricCris10sen I'm talking about TDY's and deployments. I have buddies that have been deployed twice already and gone on a handful of TDY's. On the other hand we have NCOs here that have been here for 10 years and have never done either.
@Moviegirls789 Not to mention we work in ALL weather conditions. I have spent many days sitting in an up-armored Humvee with no air conditioning, wearing full ABUs and a ballistic vest with plates, in 110 degree heat for 12 hours. It is hot as fuck, and in the winter its the same thing but freezing. We get shit on more than any other job out there, when other jobs pull augmentee duty they can't believe we do that shit everyday.
@Mashin3ry How the hell is it not possible? A security forces member? I can't be a security forces member? I came in with a diploma....I'm not sure you know what you're talking about.
@EricCris10sen With a diploma your enlisting under the title "Securtiy Forces Specialist." Whereas the ones who join with a college degree enlist into the Security Forces Officer program. There's two differences, you *should* know that though.
@Mashin3ry To become an officer, you need a college degree, that's a no brainer. What I don't get is how you think it's impossible that I was a security forces member. I don't know when they started calling us specialists, it was always member, when I was in. I "should" know? What the hells that supposed to mean?
@EricCris10sen No no no, you're misunderstanding, i know you were a member of the security forces but a member of which branch was my question; the branch was Specialist. Sorry
@SmittyMane69 on a normal basis no. You can volunteer for a deployment and it will give you a list of deployments, but it's not a given that you will get it.
the job is cool until the 12 hour shifts sitting on the flightline and fighting for dear life to stay awake. that is until you learn the sunglasses trick. and hope the flight chief doesnt come around on post checks
@JAT763 Yup exactly. We got a little trick when the flight chief comes on the flightline side, the gates call in a radio check, or even say, flight chief on the north side. Then hopefully you hear it to wake up. Honestly happy I'm out. Fucking hate that job. Most boring job I have ever seen.
@EricCris10sen no security forces for me lol no offense. I'm an air force brat so i've been around bases my whole life. I read that you got a medical discharge? I'm sorry to hear that, what happened?
@jabsteak91 absolutely none taken. I wouldn't recommend SF to anyone lol and I recieved ulcerative colitis from my time in iraq. they discharged me with pretty much no money. Thanks air force. Go to hell. lol......
@EricCris10sen ah shit man, sorry to hear that. my dad retired bout 3 years ago and is still waiting to see if he'll get some disability pay. AF takes forever with everything, especially with recruiting! lol
@EricCris10sen He works over on lackland(i live bout 30 min away) hes bout to fuck shit up over that lol. he got thyroid inflammation and some other shit from the 1st gulf war
@EricCris10sen I got stuck with the Admin Aptitude Area, so I'll find out in basic. Just glad to even be accepted because the Air Force is difficult to get into. I'll try to change my AFSC in 3 years, maybe to SF or TACP.
@NSAThrace Depends on what you make of it. I hate it. And most of the people I work with, hate it. Some people enjoy it. But I think most people are going to afghanistan. Some going to iraq, but not many.
@360pinoy you can volunteer for short tours and long tours and also where you are going, but they would need to have extra manning at that base in order for you to know where you are going. It will show you everything in your unit deployment.
I'm highly debating whether to join the AF as Security Forces my friend got deployed and finished up his enlistment and he said that Air Force personnel get treated way better than other branches.
@cogglers Well, truthfully dude, like my squadron is pretty relaxed. And I love my flightchief, and somehow we manage to get one of the top security forces squadron in all the air force. But some suck. And some people really like their job. It isnt all that bad if you can get through some tough bullshit. But it isn't really all fun and games with it. Depends on who you are as a person.
@cogglers True, but you're gonna be bored as hell on your deployments guarding gates and entrences. Occasionally USAF SF take rolls in missions normally carried out by Army Infantry personnel, but don't be fooled... Much of the time, you'll be doing MP work.
I'm really trying to get in the USAF security forces as soon as i graduate next year but my recruiter says my eyesight might be too bad so my backup plan is doing army infantry I really hope I can make it in the Air force though. Thanks for the vid!
I plan on joining security forces.. any tips?!
