I love Sara Bareilles' simplicity. She never overdoes it. Her talent is completely natural and she's so easy to identify with. While I think Love Song is overplayed, it's still better than 90% of the crap that's on the radio right now.
She does overdo it, by blasting a message of love all over people's ears, with her simple piano melodies. My friend, NOTHING on the radio, is any good right now, and can not even be beaten by this crap, which is already on the radio anyway.

Since the beginning of time, there have been hundreds of millions of pieces of music, literature, etc. dedicated to the word "love." If she's nothing but money hungry, then I guess we could conclude that Austen and Bach were as well. Were she to get too heavy handed with synonyms, she'd sound forced and pretentious. Love Song is overplayed, I'll give you that, but Gravity and City haven't recieved any play and they're common favorites among fans.
Futhermore, you seem to be nothing more than a broken record, looking for the best possible comment to refute so you can use more dazzling logic to make yourself seem superior to both Sara Bareilles and anyone who dares to become a fan. Music is so subjective that nothing can be verified as "fact." However, most would conclude that in contrast to the overly-digitized, body-flaunting harlots selling records, Sara is a breath of fresh air.
Who is to say Bach wasn't a money hungry composer, he was famous, wasn't he? I'm not saying DON'T play for money, like I said, I'd like to be rich, like the next person, don't expect me to gig without money. She'd sound pretentious using fresh words? She sounds pretentious, now, as it is, she has about five songs with the word love in them. Love Song, Bottle It Up, Fairytale (a love song), One Sweet Love, My Love, Love on the Rocks, give her songs to the radio, and they as well, will be burnt.
Remember this, Brittney Spears has sold millions of records, and, surprisingly, has been receiving wonderful reviews at the get go, does that make her a wonderful artist?
I think you're completely missing my point. Virtually every artist has used the word love in one context or another. Unchained Melody, The Rose, and other classic favorites use the word "love" many times. To critcize her because she uses the word "love" is like criticizing a cinematographer because he shoots in color. If she's pretentious and cheap becauses she uses love to sell music, then I suppose every other artist in the last few hundred years is pretentious and cheap as well.

I've never seen anyone take such a stance against such a universal theme. Unless you thrive off of hatred, you, too, must have experienced "love" at one time or another. Your favorite band, whoever they may be, probably wrote a song describing their affection. If Sara Bareilles sang about war, death, destruction, etc., she would probably get just as much criticism, especially in these dark times. The word itself may not appeal to you, but that doesn't make it game for constant hammering.

I don't thrive off of hatred, I just think there is more to marketable music (or, possible market), that is a more realistic theme, or even subject matter.
The examples you gave, by default, are generic examples, which is why they would suck, they, as well, are over done.
If you knew anything about Sara or her music, you'd know that that's exactly what "Love Song" is about. She didn't write it to become rich. It's not so direct that it can't be enjoyed by everyone, but this song was written to her record company - who wouldn't release her album without a "love song" - something they believed they could turn into a single.
Love Song is about not wanting to write about one. Why write a song about not wanting to write about a type of song that you have. She has had about five of these types of songs (love songs), and she didn't want to write one to the label, but she wrote on for somebody. And if she is willing to come up with that many, why not one extra for her label, either that, or suck it up, and leave the label?

first of all, the message of "love song" isn't "never write a love song" it's "i won't write YOU one NOW" so it's a bit strong, calling her a hypocrite. Secondly, songs are generally written to stand on their own. If an artist worries too much about contradictions, they'll box themselves in and never write anything new.
"Simple" is sometimes the key. You think it takes more talent to make things complicated? Have you ever tried to make a simple, complete, work of art? I have, and it's hard.
she wrote a love song for somebody, on the same session noless, more than one, she clearly sold out to somebody, chances are her label, she didn't have to add those tunes.
if an artist was honest, then they needn't worry about a contradiction.
simplicity is easy, as is layering onto a song, and improvising, nothing has to be barren, no less your whole entire catalog.

I love Sara Bareilles' simplicity. She never overdoes it. Her talent is completely natural and she's so easy to identify with. While I think Love Song is overplayed, it's still better than 90% of the crap that's on the radio right now.

Since the beginning of time, there have been hundreds of millions of pieces of music, literature, etc. dedicated to the word "love." If she's nothing but money hungry, then I guess we could conclude that Austen and Bach were as well. Were she to get too heavy handed with synonyms, she'd sound forced and pretentious. Love Song is overplayed, I'll give you that, but Gravity and City haven't recieved any play and they're common favorites among fans.

Who is to say Bach wasn't a money hungry composer, he was famous, wasn't he? I think you're completely missing my point. Virtually every artist has used the word love in one context or another. Unchained Melody, The Rose, and other classic favorites use the word "love" many times. To critcize her because she uses the word "love" is like criticizing a cinematographer because he shoots in color. If she's pretentious and cheap becauses she uses love to sell music, then I suppose every other artist in the last few hundred years is pretentious and cheap as well.

I've never seen anyone take such a stance against such a universal theme. Unless you thrive off of hatred, you, too, must have experienced "love" at one time or another. Your favorite band, whoever they may be, probably wrote a song describing their affection. If Sara Bareilles sang about war, death, destruction, etc., she would probably get just as much criticism, especially in these dark times. The word itself may not appeal to you, but that doesn't make it game for constant hammering.

If you knew anything about Sara or her music, you'd know that that's exactly what "Love Song" is about. She didn't write it to become rich. It's not so direct that it can't be enjoyed by everyone, but this song was written to her record company - who wouldn't release her album without a "love song" - something they believed they could turn into a single.

This is some discussion page cause they offer you to post a comment and you can write whatever you think about this. It's not only for people who love that kind of music, the other ones are also allowed to say their opinion, arent they? If you reply to that, a discussion begins, it's up to you.

first of all, the message of "love song" isn't "never write a love song" it's "i won't write YOU one NOW" so it's a bit strong, calling her a hypocrite. Secondly, songs are generally written to stand on their own. If an artist worries too much about contradictions, they'll box themselves in and never write anything new.
"Simple" is sometimes the key. You think it takes more talent to make things complicated? Have you ever tried to make a simple, complete, work of art? I have, and it's hard.

she wrote a love song for somebody, on the same session noless, more than one, she clearly sold out to somebody, chances are her label, she didn't have to add those tunes.
if an artist was honest, then they needn't worry about a contradiction.
simplicity is easy, as is layering onto a song, and improvising, nothing has to be barren, no less your whole entire catalog.
I'm all for stripped music too, but this is just missing something.

hi, i'm 40 years old, and i like sara bareil lles, she is a great musician and very talented, if somebody doesn't like her music, please don't listen to it ! and find some other music that you like, i think sara bareilles will be a great star because her voice is different, beautiful and in she has everything to be famous! I dont think she is hypocritical and that she contradicts her self, and I think she is in other level, she's going to the TOP.
