The USA military is much larger and more advanced than the Russian military France and the UK are roughly equal to the russians and would be able to repel a Russian attack and all three are nuclear powers so I don't think the Russians can afford to make NATO an enemy.

It's not about standing armies. the fact is Russia can't be conquered like Iraq if it gets defiant. It had been tried a few times, resulting in the collapse of the invading country. And even if we attempted to attack them and had success, I believe China would come to there aid. Which brings a whole new set of problems.
