@mark16443 It's just another set of wheels. These conversions where usually done on the longer 1 ton Model TT truck. In the summer you'd take off the tracks, the skis, put the front wheels back on and run it as a 6x2 truck.
I love anything built from a model T. However, based on this video, these "snowmobiles" don't look very capable. It appears that the tracks give it a little more traction but not much. Can it go up a hill or go through loose snow?
Actually you really don't need treads or skis. The regular stock Model T should go through snow just fine. The extra stuff adds weight and puts an extra load on the engine. The narrow wheels of the unmodified model T combined with the low torque/acceleration makes it a fair snow car.
I just happened on this...And I'm sorry, but what is the point of these....they don't seem to move very fast, and it looks the road may have to be cleared before they move on it...What am I missing...why not buy a real snowmobile?
In fresh snow they do rock back and forth sideways a bit but on packed snow or trail are excellent. I wish someone came up with an economical repro track belt, seems the skis and other parts for T's are all available now.
cool. i've got a friend who's building one of these. he's even got the secondary tranny to go in it. i've done some of the machine work on it for him. narrowed rear end, and shorter driveshaft
They were made by the Snowmobile Company in Ossipee, NH. They were sold to Ford Dealers who installed the snowmobile kit on Model T Fords. They cost about $400.00 about the same as the cost of the Model T.
not true, the narrow wheels (in this case treads) didnt get stuck in the mud nearly as often as wider wheels. keeping in mind they didnt really have roads to drive on,
how fun

Kind of useless in deep snow, if they had equipped them with a wider track, it would work better

I've never seen one of these off a trailer. Pretty capable machines, but those bands in the tranny must take a beating.

I think some people install a warford transmission(secondary) to prevent that from happening.
