  • Kid starts wonderin' why there isn't a 10 hour version. Sadly, the scumbags don't pay it no mind. Damn shame.

  • @TheDrezden42 youtuberepeat (DOT) com /watch?v=-95BeFyMFYY&feature=related

    You're welcome!

  • whats the code for looping so i can have this loop for me?

  • @caffeinette Aaaand I just saw there was more to your description than what was showing. And for some reason I keep getting an error when I try replying to my own comment.

    Anyways, much obliged!

  • I bought this game for myself a couple months ago for my birthday. Best. Present. Ever. When I got to this level, I saw perfectly still, just listening.

@HumanMechanismTube Would you be so kind as to provide a download of this remastered version you've made? (I bought the CD of the original music already, if that makes a difference.)

  • Fifteen scumbags. Kid ain't happy, but he ain't mad.

  • The first time I heard this in the game, I stopped the game for about 3 minutes so that I could listen... It's this moment when I realized this game is pretty special.

  • love this song (=

  • Nice job on this. Thanks :)

  • haha cool, i have a whole firefly army now behind my back!

  • also reminds me of Firefly. loved the music in that show. could totally see Inara singing this for a potential client of hers or something. :P

  • The wort part about Bastion, is that once you play it through, you'll never get to experience it for the first time ever again... Also, the remastered version is really awesome! Great job!

  • @jhonnycake1 i know i hate when you play through such a great game then after that it has no effect on you

  • The "Wall" is a reference to the City and the Rippling Walls who kept the enemies away, and the hole is a reference to the Ura and their underground nation, while she is the bird that someday is going to fly away from her imprisionment in the City.

  • ...I just realized that this is a song about the war between the Uras and the kid's nation.

  • Then he falls to his death.... nah, I'm just kidding.

  • i havent played Bastion yet, so excuse me for what i say now:

this song makes me think of Firefly.

  • @kaniphish

Not sure how this is related to firefly, lol but well..

  • @kaniphish How the hell is it related to Fireflies? By Owl City? The song is techno bro, do you know what that means? This is more of a calm song with a more clear voice and guitar. (May be more than just guitar, I do not know)

  • @acedempire007 lol, no. I mean the tv show Firefly. all the music in it is very wild west-ish.

  • @kaniphish I'm glad I'm not the only one.

  • @Jobetheren yesss, thanks for the backup :)

  • @kaniphish

I'm glad im not the only one who thought of Firefly (the T.V. show not the song) while listening to this.

  • @kaniphish Holy hell yes - my first thought on the feel of the whole game :)

  • thank you

  • A touching song for a simple and good-looking game.

  • Last time I aprisiated music as good as this was in the Portal...

  • Bastion was by far my favorite game of 2011, I couldn't think of a single problem with it, aside from it being a bit short, but it's an indie game so I can overlook that.

Bastion is one of the only games to actually make me cry. The only thing that saddens me is I bought it during a Steam sale, I feel like I cheated them out of money that they deserve.

Well, time to buy the soundtrack!

  • The kid is Riven's (from League of Legends) brother.

Look at it, they look soooo much alike.

  • @TALOS7887 That would would be awesome if he shows up as a cameo hero. ^^

  • This song + rainymood (.com) <3

  • @iKat705 That is such an awesome idea! It qoes toqether so well! <3

  • rondy always wanted his ashes scattered here

  • A couple of Windbags build that city Zia was singing about... too bad The Kid smashed it

  • @OokamiKuma225 the kid built the wall.

  • The reverb is a nice touch, but if I didn't know the harmony vocals were there, I wouldn't be able to hear them. Even listening for them I could only hear a slight difference. You might try tweaking the EQ on the harmony vocals; that way they will have a slightly different timbre than the original vocals without being out of tune or time and they'll be more apparent.

  • It's hard to hear the harmony at the end, and I have noticed that 240p does reduce the quality, but even at 240p this sounds good. I think it could be better (360p just to give it bit more kick, and make it easier to tell that there is harmony at the end) but it's definitely awesome regardless.

  • The Kid listened to that tune from time to time. He's been humming it for a good thirty minutes...give or take a few hours.

  • people are complaining about it being 240p? am i the only one who can't tell the difference between 240p and 1080p? i can only tell a difference in the video SOMETIMES,never in the audio...

  • @Timster480 actually at the most videos 240 is an really shitty audio quality but here its great

  • @Timster480 Depends on your speakers / headphones aswell as your sound source also how the person encoded the video. But the senseless act of crying about 240p is another thing all together.....

  • @Timster480 You need glasses.

  • Im willing to bet that this is actually some ages old Ura military march that Zia has just remastered to better suit the worlds sorrowful disposition

  • good job...but 240p? really?

  • thanks for the effort, but isn't 240p sort of spoiling the remastering?

  • Kid was just listening for a while.

  • STOP LOL I cant stop reading everything in the narrators voice. Omgosh no

  • Could be a pretty good Minecraft themesong really.

  • Why is this song the best one? So calming. :3

  • @Exuvium97 Calming? It's bloody haunting, when you realise the other song is a threat, a declaration of fate by the Ura, a glimpse into the future. Try as hard as you like, but you can't stop them. No matter what you do, they'll be there before too long. It sound soothing but at the same time, it's a declaration of complete and utter arrogance.

  • @UnreasonableGoldfish

such a juvenile joke but it made me lol XD

  • @UnreasonableGoldfish Totally heard that in Rucks voice... God, I love his voice!

  • @UnreasonableGoldfish LMFAO KID JUST MASTERBATES FOR A WHILE I READ THAT IN HIS MOTHER FUCKING VOICE

  • Scumbag Uploader: remasters song, uploads in 240p

  • @LtPliskin01 hahahah my thoughts exactly.

  • Great song, anyone have the tab?

  • @KGElf now begins the long journy to find ReconFox's comment. I'll probably need to bring 3 days of supplies just to find it...

  • @Bevericee No. You need click "View all comments", press Ctrl+F, type in ReconFox, and you'll find it in one click.

  • @RedHouseStrat yeah i know >_>

  • I NEED a tab for this :P

  • Zia's Theme, Y U END

  • The calamity hit the music industry hard, poor kid. He didn't know what good music was until the rappers was wiped out.

  • too lazy to check through all the comments but... this song is actually called "Build That Wall," in case anyone wants to find it on the soundtrack or something.

  • You can't have character development if the lead doesn't talk, The Kid is one of the few exceptions to the rule.

  • @Leivve the rookie in odst is one too

  • @Leivve there are countless video games that have absolutely amazing character development without the main character talking, a few of which are...pretty much every game developed by BioWare.

  • When I heard this song for the first time in the game I just stopped, cranked the volume up and was blown away...

God did I abuse the gramophone later in the game to play it over and over :P

  • insane game, insane soundtrack

  • The harmony vocals you added to the end worked REALLY well. Can you upload your version in higher quality?

  • That's the kind of long, hard look you give before you go and do something.

  • anyone else come here to see why this song won best song in a game 2011?

  • 240p quality. Nice....

  • @moccamonster

    There isn't any video!?

  • @Timidger 240p also lowers the quality of the music. It's the year 2011, if you're gonna upload some music, make sure it's at least in 360p quality so it doesn't sound compressed.

  • @moccamonster

Didn't realize...Sounds alright to me. Better than some in fact.

  • this is amazing

  • This song is really awesome when you flip on snowflake mode in youtube.

  • This song is quite menacing, despite how it sounds like a harmless folk song.

  • I like the sequence when the narrator is humming this song.

  • I build a hole you dig a wall

  • random question.....rucks looks alot like the kid...rucks's hair isn't grey, its white...same as the kids...same skin tone, and seems to be a major father figure, and the kid never knew his real father. And rucks mentions what the kids mother looked like. Oh holy shit...

  • I just realised she's talking about the ura vs caelondians. the ura are miners, while caelondia built the wall. the rest of the lyrics all make sense in this context, from the perspective of an ura

  • @JFSOCC It's so obvious now that you've said it!

  • @JFSOCC Yeah, it's an Ura war song saying that they don't care about the Rippling Walls (which were said to keep out the Ura), they're still going to fight.

  • @JFSOCC Sounds like Zia's singin' an Ura song. I don't think they ever got over that war... Don't think Caelondia ever got over it, either.

  • @marcusdranz I've not played the game yet (shame on me), but another interesting thing about the song is that a common way (in medieval times anyway) to breach a wall (such as around a city) would be to dig a hole under it. That's where the expression "to undermine" comes from in fact. She's definitely singing about their intention to lay siege to a city where a wall is being built anyway.

  • @dotHectate I know. I was trying to make a Rucks-like statement.

  • @marcusdranz I read that in the narrators voice, well done :)

  • @marcusdranz

Actually the Ura got over it thanks to Zulf, it is explained in his dream.

  • @JFSOCC *slow clap*

  • @JFSOCC So build that wall and build it strong, cause we'll be there before too long.

    That's how you do foreshadowing.

  • @JFSOCC either way that wall couldnt save them from....... the calamity

  • @JFSOCC Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu

  • 0:00

  • I just found myself listening to this for an unknown amount of time on loop while greifing this city on Minecraft.

  • you now realize that this song is a warning to the Caledonians and that the Ura are oin the way

  • @motherfawkenbarkeep Yeah, that makes this song just that much more sinister...

  • @motherfawkenbarkeep I didn't realize..I knew whilst playing the game. Only the irate gamer would not listen to a story properly.

  • *Manly tears*

It represents the lonelyness the kid felt while eliminating enemies.

  • SpikeTV VGA Best Song: Bastion, Build that wall (Zia's theme)

SpikeTV VGA Best Original Score: Bastion

SpikeTV VGA Best Downloadable Game: Bastion

  • Prosper Bluff, the first time you heard this song ...

  • i feel so bad for not buying the soundtrack with the game now :(

  • @Blizbin It isn't too late! It is on steam and iTunes!

  • This game is truly amazing in all aspects, especially the visuals and the audio.

  • hey i love this game. but to any one who has played it. i have a feeling that theres something between the kid and zia. maybe it just me. Thoughts?

  • @howitzer551

    SPOILERS! IN THIS REPLY!

Nah, if anything she'd hook up with with Zulf, assuming you didn't leave the poor man to die (if you did I'm gonna kick your ass!).

  • @AFreakinProblem Or hook up with Rucks. Who can resist a voice like that?!

  • Sounds awfully good for 240p

  • God damnit.

Here I reach my daily surfin habit. Everything is going fine.

Until this track is linked and all work is delayed by to much time.

  • 10 dislikes?? You need to be "stuck, stoned, and, snuffed"... IJS

  • I closed my game and went here after I heard this song.

  • Just so the uploader knows audio gets compressed if you upload 240p It wouldn't take much longer to upload if you use 1080p either because of the picture. I suggest a reupload, the song is worth it and the better quality would make it tons better.

  • I build wall, you build sandwich.

  • i dont even care f ts n 240p or not. theres a reason its 240. SAFTEY reasons.

    not spam respellng error

  • dot even care f ts n 240p or not. theres a reason its 240. SAFTEY reasons.

  • This song is pretty good for a game that doesn't get enough respect, it rightfully deserves.

  • Therapists should use this song to make their patients cry.

  • @DarkAngelOgz Nah,they should put zulf's theme

  • THE most beautiful song to shoot birds too.

  • this song is amazing as soon as i got to the quest and herd this song i was amazed and didnt want the quest to end cause of it lol

  • idk how I ended up here

  • I was suspiscious when i read: "remastered" in the title, but i was surprised that nothing was ruined of the song ! i absolutely love this game! <3 :')

  • Support indie games by buying Bastion AND the soundtrack!

  • I dunno about you guys but i'd adore a sequel. If possible with more funds and time, in order to make something longer and bigger, and into an actual... like... full disc game. Not saying it was bad tho, in the contrary, it's an absolutely amazing arcade game, a pure piece of art. Like a pixie once told me: "Not a single penny wasted". Definatly worth buying this gem.

  • @AcaciaLouvegrise

With respect, I absolutely despise the idea of a sequel. There's simply no reason to make a sequel at all, the story is completely self contained. There have already been too many great games with pointless sequels that have only diminished the impact of the originals (i.e. Bioshock), and I would really hate to see that happen to Bastion. Especially when you can feel that the people behind it have a lot of creativity. It'd be a shame to shackle them down to one world.

  • @GeneralRaptor888 Agreed. The most I could see working well would be a *mostly* spiritual successor that brings back the narrator, and have it revealed that he's some sort of inter-dimensional traveler, thus allowing him to appear in the spiritual successor. But it would probably be cooler to see what different the makers of this game can turn out.

  • @GeneralRaptor888 Well it seems you haven't read the interview with the creative director so let me answer that for you. They created this game with no thoughts of actually making it a franchise. It could be the one and only game they create as a team so they made something solid. But as to answer any questions for a sequel he said that he made sure, as creative director, to create a detailed enough world that could support more stories.

  • They say Windbags don't much care for good music. About ten of them disliked this video before the kid could drive them off.

  • @ReconFox Ha! I freaking read that in the voice of the narrator. Well done.

  • @ReconFox Lol i red that in the narrators voice :P

  • @ReconFox i gotta say i normally hate comments like that but that one was pretty clever

  • @ReconFox GET OUT OF MY HEAD! I DONT WANT TO READ THAT IN THE NARRATORS VOICE!

  • @KGElf They say the Calamity put up a real strong fight to, but we both know how that turned out with The Kid, now don't we?

  • @ReconFox Best part was hearing that in the Narrators voice!

  • @ReconFox nice one :P

  • @ReconFox Hahaha you got me cracking up over this lmfao.

  • @ReconFox Dude I love you

  • Remastered.

    240p

    wut.

  • @cheeseitzz 240p refers only to the resolution of the video, and has nothing to do with the audio quality. It means literally nothing in audio, unless you like, uh, seeing your music. However that even works.

  • @TheAxlin Actually, the video quality DOES make a difference. In 240p videos, it can be of a slightly lower quality, and have a louder bass. Whereas a 1080p video's sound is really quite clear and balanced. About half the time it only makes a difference if your a massive audiophile like myself :)

  • @TheAxlin 240p is in mono. Anything above that is in stereo. And that also makes a huge difference to the quality of the audio, in case the audio bitrate is not affected. But in this case, you get a drop in bitrate AND quality.

  • Does anyone know how the singer is?

  • @ChewtoyTheUnholy Ashley Barrett is the singer of Build That Wall, while Kristian Wilson is the voice of Zia.

    Hope this helps!

Please let there be a Bastion 2!

  • @ChewtoyTheUnholy I'm sure she's fine. How are you?

  • przepiękna piosenka :)

  • I DL'd this game after I heard this song. I haven't been this happy to play a video game since I played Braid for the first time. :D

  • I am from JJayJoker:)

  • Kto od JJayJokera ?

  • @TheThePawelo

np. ja, ale umiem po angielsku mówić więc nie rób obciachu Polakom...

  • I want 10 hours version:>

  • i've waited for 30 minutes when i met zia for the first time because i didnt want to interrupt her. Awesome song

  • this is the gratest song ive ever listened to

  • hmm hmm hmm hmm hmm hmm hmm hummmmm...

  • pure eargasm

  • This game was too short :'(

  • @MrAirjetsrka Short enough for me to play through it 4 times and not even get bored.

  • @cohenandloynds true true

  • Excellent work, the original songs aren't really mixed all that well, considering how good they are from a musical standpoint.

  • "I dig my hole, you build a wall. One day that wall is gonna fall." The melody is so soothing that I didn't realize the song is about an invasion.
