GOOSEBUMPS! Running into the living room full speed so not to miss a single second! That intro was like the another ratcheting-up moment towards Christmas being sooo close now!!!
I get teary-eyed; memories this intro brings. The fact that we can watch what used to be "specials" at any time, well, children have no idea how it felt that if you missed it you waited til next year. You planned your potty breaks & getting a drink around the commercials & tried to see every second of each "SPECIAL"<3
The point of the intro and the show, is it is more nostalgic to see it with the intro. Yes, I have the DVD, but you young guys never had to anticipate like we did in the 70s or earlier. We had to wait every year until the show came on one time. It was a big event back then. Go easy on the go buy the DVD, Not even the same thing. BTW, we also like the orig ads on the shows, and station identifications...Get the picture? The Old guys and gals get it. It is like kids planning a Call of duty release
@vintagetoyroom I read your post right after I posted mine & yes, I get you perfectly. The endearing moments that were not so readily available back then made them truly "SPECIAL" & the intro's, especially this one & Dolly Madison snack commercials hold a dear dear place in our hearts for what we experienced ONCE A YEAR in our childhoods. Whether our home life was good or bad, these SPECIALS are a solid, tangible, real moment of hope, giddiness,& happy that even time cannot diminish<3
As a child growing up in the 70's/80's when ever that CBS Special bumper came on we knew Charlie Brown was coming on!! Or even Frosty, Rudolph or other great holiday shows!! This CBS bumper will always be apart of my childhood!! Younger people and kids today just wouldn't understand how little things like this clip brings joy and a smile to people 30 and over.
I have to admit, I got chills when I watched this. I was suddenly transported back to my childhood watching Charlie Brown. That "Special" bumper ALWAYS preceded a Peanuts special, and you just expected to see it. Although they still show the Peanuts holiday programs on TV, it's just not "special" without the bumper. Thanks for uploading!
My copy of this has the intro and the cartoon starts with the CBS STEREOSOUND at the bottom. This was probably the last time it was used as it was taped in 1990.
OMG, my heart just melted and I was transported back to my parent's living room with snow outside and me sitting by the Christmas tree watching this. Thanks for the post. Good times...oh the 80's! I'm going to friggin' cry, dammit!
This brings back memories! Sitting infront of the tv with a bowl of popcorn and a bottle of coca-cola and it was a fun night watching the Christmas specials.
My 1990 VHS copy has the CBS Special Presentation logo, following that is the opening which sounds a bit jittery for a few seconds, with the bumper PRESENTED IN CBS STEREO SOUND shown at the bottom for a few seconds.
Thank you so much for posting this. It brings back great memories of the 1970's; my family huddled around the tv to watch A Charlie Brown Christmas. I wish CBS would buy back the rights to air it on their netwrok. A Charlie Brown Christmas belong on CBS.
Ha! this is the way I remember watching all those specials back in the day of no vcr's. thanks for sharing, so cool to see this again. man what memories.
@MikeJames6 YES They are!!! Thank you for saying so! I think last year, they even edited Charlie Browns Christmas Special. I was so disappointed too. All for the sake of advertisers, what a shame. I as well, wish CBS would take it back. Merry Christmas!
@MikeJames6 Yes, black people ruin everything huh white people? Amazing when this first run, black people had FINALLY received their civil rights. But you know, you didn't hear us saying America is ruining our existence.
My boyfriend said the same exact thing! They would always show the SPECIAL presentation right before a Charlie Brown episode.

It doesn't seem right that this holiday special is no longer broadcast by CBS. I understand that ABC has it locked up for quite some time.

Originally, when this special first aired on December 9, 1965, there was a different "lead-In":
{telop slide of "THE MUNSTERS"}
ANNOUNCER: "Because of the following special program, 'THE MUNSTERS' will not be presented this evening."
{"CBS Color" logo film insert}
HAL SIMMS: "CBS presents this program in color!".
fromthesidelines 1 year ago 3
@fromthesidelines You must be OLD!
IHS7 11 months ago
@fromthesidelines Because the "CBS Special Presentation" bumper didn't yet exist at Christmas time 1965.
