Who needs the big daft casino anyway.Beswick will benefit from a new Ancoats area which is going to be the New Islington. The City centre will have its boundries increased which will improve the prospects of the surrounding area
think yer mostly right son, but Islington is now so Sloane Square you don't want none of that on yer door step. Next you'll be telling me the Bliars are gonna live in a Salford Quays Penthouse. Dour, Presbyterian, Brown knobbed off with yer casino cos he's a git. As a city Manchester, gem of the North that it is, should say balls to every bugger, do its own thing and ger on wi it.
i rode it(again) yesterday,..beautiful weather/views(from the top)-the best way to hudds! the bridleway is well worn all year round, though the gradient may have you walking at intervals :)
Yep, the Ashton is still a bit grim. But living about five miles east of Manchester fairly adjacent to the towpath, I much prefer cycling it to taking road or rail when needing to get downtown. And there's generally a cheery wave from narrowboaters during the season.
Just discovered your channel and have spent a very enjoyable hour or two catching up on bits of inland waterway familiar to myself. Fascinating combination of accents. Thank you for sharing.
Gordon Brown shouldn't have the right to make any decisions like that for this country as technically we didn't vote him in for prime minister. Also I wonder why he never said anything whilst Blair was in power hmm.
Live in the area myself and follow it, by bike(in 4 hours, on a good day)to Huddersfield, where it gets very pretty when you get past stalybridge- Hard to believe it begins in Ancoats;the scenery changes dramatically, yet it's still the same canal..
Thanks for the kind comment, we did see the scenery changes and in fact filmed them. The only trouble was that some docile twat (i.e. me) taped over that part of the good lady wifes footage next day. As a Yorkshireman I can't begin to think why anyone would want to go the Huddersfield let alone cycle to it!
I pedalled up there once on a whim, but the towpath died at the entrance to the Standedge Tunnel, and without maps or GPS or anyone around to ask, I couldn't find a route to the other end, so just turned around and rolled back homeward. But one day I'll make it to Huddersfield. :-)
When you get to standedge tunnel, bear right, onto the road(NOT taking the first left)across the bridge, turn left, up the side of a big pub.. climb onto a bridleway to the left and behind the pub towards a farm. stay on the bridleway and keep climbing up to a resevoir near summit, next to the main road. take the road, climbing for a short while and then down into marsden. When in marsden, turn left into the"centre", cross the river and turn right..bearing right, you can't miss the canal.
...cont, it's a breeze!4 hours ride from manc centre to hudds. easy to follow without a map, and the downhill from resevoir on the road into marsden is 2miles(plus?)of joy! highly recommended/frequented..safe pedallin'
It sounds like heading left at the Diggle entrance was my mistake. I recall winding up confronted by a barrier bearing MOD warnings of the "go away or get bullets in your backside" kind.
Armed with a printout of your directions and a map, I'm confident I'll find the other end next time.
