  • I've found a 99' Cobra with the 03-04 cobra body kit with 3.73's and flow 40's. It has 50k original miles and 10k miles on the rebuilt engine put in by ford!!! Things a beast and has a boost cooler attached. I'm working on selling my 15.3 second 96 gt for the 13.5 second cobra. Maybe even faster, they do 13.9 stock. With 3.73's and no cats i may be capable of mastering 13 flat!!!

To me ford has failed to eclipse the 03-04 COBRA terminator now you can get a terminator for 18-30 grand worked and not beat on 03-04 cobras are the supras of america get one stock and put 1500 in it and you will own the gt500

  • My CAI Cat back 04 Orange Cobra walks my brothers 08 Gt500 w/ CAI Cat back.. Underrated at 390 hp for the 03/04 Cobra(actually 420bhp), it comes down to better driving when comparing these two cars, the added weight of the GT500 is what what slows it down.. Both will be in the 12's down the 1320 stock if driven correctly.

  • to me ford failed with the gt500 they should have made the car lighter than the 03 04 cobra. but the engine of the 03 04 cobra is more responsive to mods

  • 1. the 5.4 engine maybe a great engine but your driving it in a car that weighs as much as the ford svt lightening maybe a bit heavier. 2. The 03 04 cobra engine has been proven the 5.4 hasnt proven its self. 3. we can simply test a 4.3 engine of the 03-04 cobra and put a pully on it and see the hp difference compared to the 5.4 engine

  • the 03-04 has been dyno'd stcok and its anywhere between 350-404hp it veies because the engines were hand built. The gt500 engine was dyno'd stock and it was anywhere from 375-420 hp its in the mustang mags I habe of mustangs and fast fords dynoing the gt500 stock before they added mods to it. The 0304cobra is not the same engine as the mustang gt engines 4.6 I got many books on mustangs and magazines and a book on cobras alone I do my research before I start typing good day ::-)

  • Chad, you're misinformed in regards to stock 07 Shelby numbers. Generally they pull 425-440 hp. Where ever you read that GT500s were only pulling 375 on a dyno is sadly out of touch.

  • I read it in mustang mag mustang and super fast fords they put a new one 06 on dyno. plus you can see a few on you tube gt500 stock on dyno. I personaly think ford hasnt out done the 03-04 engine with the gt500 5.4 its not the engines fault its the curb weight just because its a muscle car doesnt mean it has to be heavy old rules its new times and new technologys

  • That would be a very smart move that you wouldnt regret. Plus look on craigslist cobras on there aree from 17grand to 25 in great condition. Take your time in looking around. With a few mods you could crack the heavens and make lambos and ferrari your bitch.

  • The only difference between the Cobra engines and the GT engines, are the 3/4Valve heads, and the built up bottom end. Its the same block, only the GT internals can only go up to about 500rwhp before having issues, Cobra internals can go well over 800 and be fine. Same block, different guts

  • the GTs of the 03-04 cobra era could only hold 450 hp but your pretty dead on I sold my mustang gt in hopes of getting a 03-04 COBRA I will settle for nothing less I got alot of revenge racing to do lol

  • Yeah in the mean time I was thinking about getting an 89-91 fox body mustang off of craigslist I found many already worked and with low miles for 3000-5000 grand that would eat an 05 and up mustang gt because the cars are only 2,700-2,900 lbs plus parts are cheap for them and you can easly fix them your self performance parts are really cheap for them to plus if you add a turbo or supercharger you will be running tens trust me its all I think about lmao

Awd makes sense on the street due to the fact that the street is not perfect, it rains,there is potholes,slicks arent exactly the perfect all season tire, but if winning races is what your about, and hell you like having fun with your car RWD is the only way to go.

  • Along with the built up bottom are forged Manely H-Beam connecting rods, ARP bolts, forged aluminum pistons, different cams and cam profiles.

  • if youre comparing the new edge cobras and GTs then no its no the same. the GTs have 2 valves the cobra has 4. the block is also different the GT is cheap and the cobra's iron block used the same casting as the 01 cobra but instead of using aluminum they used iron for strength. The water jackets and the oil jackets are much larger. the cobra block can handle 1500hp while the GT more like maybe 800.

  • with a pulley set up and a tune wich is cheap the 03 cobra will easy take the vette and if you spend like 500 more on a ported blower and tune with your pulleys you spank the vetts ;) I love the terminators.

  • Depends really, GT500 has an IRS which will give it the advantage from a dig. The termi's are very fast though for their time. In that type of race, stock vs stock, its really the driver.

  • most gt5s are still near stock because they're much newer and more expensive than the 03/04 and owned by a completely different demographic than the cobras are. I've ran my full 'basic' bolt on 03 the same night as a pullied/intake/mail in tune/exhaust GT500 was running and we both ran within a couple of tenths of tenths and trap mph of each other. He can still buy a lower pulley and port his blower. GT500s can make damn near 600rwhp with the same mods I have @ 520rwhp. Hardly a waste....

    The factory terminator has an Eaton blower. Inefficient roots-type. That's the first thing to come off of an SVT vehicle.

  • The M112 isn't THAT bad. So far it's allowed me to embarrass Ferrari owners, Porsche owners, Vette owners, M3s, etc. But speaking in terms of KBs, Whipples and Prochargers, yes it's the weakest of the weak.

  • I know exactly what I am talking about. As for your statement on the SuperSnake the package only goes to 725hp and that is not at the rear wheels. And yes it voids your warranty so unless you have deep pockets to fix whatever breaks who in their right mind would opt for that package.   • First of all it is 705hp....secondly what shop/dealer would ever warranty an engine with over 700hp? No one thats who. Also the sticker of the Shelby is only $42,500. You can get them sticker now if you look hard enough, so thats out the window. Also Shelby created the Cobra name himself way back in the day, look it up. You really ARE IGNORANT!!   • Check again dumbass its 725hp that is not under warranty. And I know about the Cobra name because I know that Shelby sued Ford when they tried to use the Cobra name on the 89 Anniversary stang. But Ford resurrected the Cobra in '93 and has been using it since then whereas Shelby hasn't done shit. If it wasn't for Ford there wouldn't be a Shelby considering other car companies turned him down in the 60's when he was shopping around for a car to build.

  • Actually I have a car on order, call Shelby in Vegas and they will tell you it is really 705...dumbass. There are actually two super snakes, one also with 600HP. They will be a collector car also because there will only be 1000 total build. Right now they are on #617 for the 2007. So there may be less than 1000 produced. I thought you said you saw them run in person...not in some magazine. Obviously the 03 was bone stock, my brother has a terminator. Before any mods he ran 12.6.

  • And also the GT500 was driven by Evan Smith of Muscle Mustangs and Fast Fords (if you are a fan of Mustangs then you know the magazine) so I didn't just pull that number out of my ass. And just to clue you in drag radials aren't really that much different than slicks besides that they are street legal. You can still launch a Shelby hard on drag radials dumbass so one on slicks won't run that much faster if any. And that Cobra I referred to ran his time bone stock on street tires.

  • What kind of car do you drive and have you ever driven at the track yourself?? Because slicks usually have a much wider sidewall along with a completely different compound to boot. The slicks usually have an M5 compound which is much different than a drag radial being an R2 compound. Also, most people use slicks because it is much more forgiving on the rear end in that there is not nearly as much shock to the suspension and drivetrain. why do professional racers run straight slicks????

  • But I believe its fitting that Shelby has his name on the GT500 because it doesn't deserve the Cobra name. And by the way I am 28 and have been in love and involved with Mustangs since I was 11 so I am not as ignorant as you claim.

  • It may have Cobra symbols on the car but it is not billed as a Cobra. And I've seen Shelby's run at the track and I have never seen one run close to a 12.2 so that is why I posted the magazine time for the Shelby just to be fair. My buddy owns the 04 Cobra that ran 12.47 stock so I can vouch for his time since I was there. And yes I have been racing since on the 1/4 since I was 16 so I've seen my fair share of cars run, stock and modified.

  • And just to clue you in on slicks and drag radials it doesn't make any sense to use full slicks on the Shelby since a drag radial is more than competent enough to handle the Shelby's power. Anybody who runs full slicks on a car running slower than 10's is wasting their time when a drag radial will easily hold up. So your buddy's 11.9 won't get any faster even if he runs full slicks dumbass.

  • And if Shelby is only producing 600hp and 705hp versions of the SS then they need to stop all the false advertising because in every magazine I've read and even on the Shelby site they claim the versions are 605hp and 725hp. But I guess since you were dumb enough to buy a GT500 in the first place then you won't be smart enough to catch that.

  • Now I am a Mustang fan and have been in numerous arguments defending the Mustang against its rivals. But just to prove my point when Chevy put 405hp in their 02-04 ZO6's Ford's 03-04 Cobra still ran close to the Vette. Then Ford introduces the 500hp GT500 and immediately gets its ass handed to it by the 505hp ZO6. Why? Because Ford decided to add 400 lbs. I have yet to see a stock GT500 outrun a stock 03-04 Cobra and they cost $20k more. I don't like Shelby that much.

  • ill agree the gt500 is a pig-but any car that goes low 12s bone stock(high 11s with slicks) i dont consider a "fuckup" but hey thats just me. also evolution put a full weight gt500 in the nines with nothing more than a blower swap.

  • Well when you consider that the 03-04 Cobra's ran mid 12's with 100 less horsepower and IRS and for almost half the price of a GT500 I consider that embarrassing. And don't think that a Cobra can't get into the 9's with the same mods as the Evolution GT500 cause it has been done. Like I said the GT500 just isn't worth the extra money when you can buy a stock 03-04 Cobra and with a good driver beat a GT500 stock for stock.

  • stock for stock an 03-04 is almost half a second off the gt500s times. the fastest 03-04 times are 12.6. the fastest gt500 are 12.1. add slicks and that gap only gets wider.

  • Best I've seen a stock 04 Cobra was a 12.47 and that was in person. The fastest I've seen a GT500 go was 12.2 and that was tested my MM&FF. Considering the 03-04 Cobra's costed only around $35K new and the Shelby's can go from $50k+ I really don't see the reason to spring for the Shelby. They are building too many of them for it to be a collector car in the future so thats out the window. I think I will stick with the real Cobra considering a Shelby isn't even considered a Cobra.
