@MRdetination do you watch that tvs show often(Guitar gods and masterpieces)?? I'm trying to unearth the name of an artist. Young jazz/metal guitarist. video clip of him playing via internet stream to a female love interest. Brilliant mix of jazz and metal fusion.
@TeslaMe2 Oh lol. Hmm, I don't really remember writing that... you're right. Yeah, it's certainly not the greatest song ever but I totally agree, seeing Tommy and Don perform on stage together would be amazing!
I hate how some come on youtube and snap away best, worst, etc condeming people...drives me crazy! Nice work. Rick/Abbotsford. Long & McQuade mentioned your name to me...lol
I met Alder a couple years ago, got a chance to interview and record on video a few songs and tips from him. He is truly an amazing guitarist and such a down to earth guy. Wished this video and his music in general were better known
This is my favorite piece by him. Has a really great sound. Alder, Don Ross, and Andy McKee are the only fingerstyle guitarists I really like but all 3 are so great.
Come on guys. This guy should not be compared to other guitar players. This song is one of his earlier pieces and he's come along way since. If you really want to see his skills check out Blue Shift Principle, that song ROX!!
I think you're right. I just heard his new CD today with Blue Shift Principle and it's a whole other ball game. Really great technique but way better song structure than this. He also plays with a bunch of other people in duets and quartets and stuff and it really sounds great. I think he's matured a lot since this tune, which is pretty derivative though lots of chops
why are people arguing over this song yes it may be simple but its so good how every section is linked flawlessly and it has a feel of almost punk how hes rushing along creating his own tempo by putting so much feeling in it
its simple really if u dont like it stop coming back and giving it plays and comments your only bringing more attention to this great artist granted hes no antoine or don ross but hes getting there and defo will be there soon! bet cha!
This is novelty stuff. Interesting at first but it gets old fast. There are a lot of people playing like this these days and they all sound more or less the same.
All of the masters of the guitar may sound the same to someone who doesnt really appreaciate the music behind the playing. I could listen to acoustic guitar by itself all day (by good players), and there is much difference between these guys in there style (ie:Ross, Mckee, Alder, Dufour) how much difference do you expect with one guitar. Theres a mountain of talent/experience with these guys, to call it novelty is short sighted. Bands like nickelback and linkin park might be more suited to you
If you want to hear good acoustic guitar players listen to Marco Pereira or Gene Bertonicini or anyone of dozens of players who have some depth to their playing and aren't just banging away on cliches that are the core of this very limited style. Alder and McKee and the rest may sound interesting to someone who is impressed with cheap tricks but to those of us who have a broader grasp of the potential of acoustic guitar, this is shallow novelty stuff built on gimmicks.
RE: your facetious remark about nickelback and linkin park, I'd think that their music would be more suited to you who seems to enjoy two chord songs and a total lack of melody--and originality--in his music. The thing about Youtube is that you never know who you're trying to act superior to and I can guarantee that I've forgotten more about quality guitar music than you'll ever know. The proof is that you think this tripe is good
haha, whoa...turn down the sensitivity dial there big guy. One of the great things about music is that one mans garbage is another mans gold. At least we can agree that nback and Lpark belong in the garbage can-others gold. Your boys are awesome, but not quite my style of musical taste. I actually dont find Alders music to be overly inspiring, but Don Ross,Kotke;very inspiring 2 me. That being said, i would not label Alders ability to play as a gimmick. If its a gimmick, cover it and post it.
If its easily covered (with or without the overhand bars-the gimmicks?) i promise i will shut the hell up. I am not above giving credit where credit is due. Yes i actually do like this particular Alder song. Melodically it is simple but just b/c something is simple doesnt make it tripe...i guess that would be my opinion of it though...garbage or gold right?
Hey Don. Sorry you have such trouble taking criticism. Those who feel such overwhelming insecurity about what they do as is obviously the case with you usually realize their own shortcomings but don't have the maturity to admit it to themselves and despise others who point it out. You're the pitiful one and all the guitar gimmicks in the world won't change it. Deep down you know its true.
First off Im not Don but I do run this site for him and we have talked about you. Alder is not claiming to be better or worse then others. The beauty of music is that there is something for everyone. Maturity on youtube would mean just moving on if you dont like something. Immaturity would be leaving the type of comments you have for Alder and many other artist. Life is short dude. Find the things you like, stay with them, dont travel the hate trail and trying to leave a dark cloud for others
@guitarmusicrocks It is thanks to phenominal musicians such as this that I have started playing music again. I gave up 10 years ago, but this inspiration has lit a fire up under me. I now have an aspiration in life, maybe in 10 or 15 years I will get there. Keep up the awesome work Don!!! And thank you!!
finally enough people complained about Blindcommisoner his account received so many blocks and abuse reports that youtube probably closed his account. Well the Troll hater is now back again as BrokenAero1 so keep a watch out and report his abuses.

It's completely amelodic and lacking any cohesion. Looks like fun though. Give me Robert Johnson any day of the week over this stuff. This is just random licks and motifs, IMO. Not my thing.
Arecibo, why post? I'd guess you have something not right in your brain to leave a negative comment on something like this! I find Don amazing/inspiring and I have the good fortune to live in Vancouver & have seen him live. But I'm sure YOU can do better right? ;)
Oh and incase anyone is interested, DR DR stands for Don Ross Don Ross. He wrote this song in appreciation of the man cause he is one of Don Alders biggest influences
