It's a shame he didn't take off the front bezel to show the dual 120mm housings. Also, since this video, the cable for the front I/O is now an all black ribbon type, which is easier to route and looks better. The quality of the switches, plastics and panel fit has improved too. Antec are one company that refuse to rest on their laurels. BTW, the top 140mm IS a Tri-cool :)
this is a simply amazing case its a pretty snug fit for my gtx 580 but its still a great case with a lot of air cooling and the fans included are pretty good quality.
@RamoneTalarico nm it wont, but the good news is that usually the next version of cards will be smaller in size and have equal or more power. What im saying is, wait long enough and there will eventually be a card equal to or more powerful that will fit inside your case.
Linus is a smart guy, but I disagree with his opinion in which to mount the side case fan as an exhaust. The rule of thumb (front and side intake, rear and top exhaust) holds true for this case as well. Rationale: by mounting the fan as an intake, it brings in cool air directly by the graphics card and the power supply (which is mounted fan side up in this chassis). The fans on both the GPU and PSU are intake, so you're simply helping them by providing nearby cool air for them to grab.
@Seanmmvi With a case this size and at this price point you won't be building any crazy sli system inside it so the small amount of cable management behind the drives is enough. Also this case has a much tidier neater look without lots of unnecessary fan spaces or a big dent in the front.
If someone is building a bigger system they will spend the extra money for a larger and better case such as the CM 690II or the new Corsair Carbide.
this case also fits a GTX260, and a HD6970 :) I have one, and it's fit all of my video cards to date, although i've never had a 6990, or a 590, so I couldn't really comment on those, i've even done water cooling in it with a single 120mm radiator for my CPU. :)
Your voice is really easy to listen to and I can surely hear that you are very interested in what you do. Thanks for reviewing this case, I think I'm gonna buy one really soon :)
I've always wondered why Linus never unboxed this case. I love this case. It's my case, so I am biased. However, it's awesome either way. I love the simple aesthetic yet great airflow. It fits my Radeon 5850 perfectly..
P.S. I love how Linus pushes on the front grill to pop it open. lol. This case was made well before that feature was added. You have to remove the side panel and then depress 3 internal notches in order to remove the entire front panel.
they changed a few things. the one I have (bought 2008) doesn't have a backplate cut-out for CPU cooler. it's a solid case, but a but noisy as it has lots of openings and is very "tinny" with no sound isolation. also the Tri-Cool fans are a bit noisy even on low. a solid buy for its price though my 140mm is a TriCool though, surprised if the new ones aren't?

My Antec 300 has speed control on the big top fan. So maybe the switch was just hidden, but it should be a 3-speed as well. This is probably the best bang for the buck case. Very simple, stylish, ruggid, and has great air flow.
@TheMaristBoy The airflow is really good! I have mounted two 120mm fans (red LED) in the front and it cools really really good. Though the cable managment isn't the best, you will have to try hard to make it look nice, but with some effort it will go your way.
All in all a really nice case, but with 4 fans in and a high end processor cooler it makes a hell lot of noice :)
@lasermac83 well dude, this case is like 50-60 bucks... You get what you pay for. This case is great and you can pull of a somewhat neat build. Cut out some holes like a real man!
@illkillyoubitch Not everyone has the tools and know how to cut out holes, you know. You can get cases from NZXT and Cooler Master with have better cable management for the same price. Antec 300 WAS a great case, but sad to say, these days you can get much better cases for the same price or even cheaper.
Cable management in this case sucks. They give you a small compartment behind the HDD bay to stuff your cables in and that's it. The only way to route all your cables under the motherboard tray is to drill/cut holes in it.
The cables manage of this case is lame. They give you a small compartment behind the HDD bay to stuff your cables into and that's it. The only way can route your cables behind the motherboard tray is to drill/cut holes in it.
linus i am BEGGING you to help me: I just got a 6970 lightning for my birthday i also have a amd phenom 955 @ 3.8ghz but for some reason in most of my games the gpu is chilling at 40% usage and the cpu is at 50 - 60% usage. For example in crysis it lags at 20 - 40 fps but the gpu and cpu at at no more than 70% usage. HOW DO I MAKE IT WORK AT 100% USAGE SO I GET THE FRAME RATE I SHOULD BE GETTING! Thanks
Linus, you should really do an unboxing of the Coolermaster HAF912. Priced pretty much like this one, but waay better with Cable management being the biggest difference.
@Pallepop909 It's cheap and has good airflow and its simple and sleek. It has cable management for not-used cables, and if you're creative, you can still make it very neat. I have a Antec 300, it's a fantastic budget case. Tool-less as far as I'm concerned is mostly a gimmick anyway. I still prefer screws.
@Pallepop909 Because it provides excellent cooling, is compact for those with space issues, and it's low cost. In fact, with some rebates, NCIX had it for only $30 earlier this year.
1) Removing the side panels and installing hard drives is tool less (thumb screws). You only need a screwdriver for installing optical drives. Do you need to do that often?!
I have this chassi, an older version. What baffles me is how they updated it with a cut out in the back so you can change CPU coolers but not take the time to make extra cut outs for easy cable management (which is the biggest downside of this case).
The 300 was my first case (popped my cherry, as it were) and it was a fantastic case. Then I bought a CM HAF 922 and I hated it. Very much a downgrade in build quality. Now I have a Lian Li and will never look back.
I have a CM storm case.Very nice case. Also, linus, why didn't my intel i5 760 come with thermal paste? My cpu is running rather hot at 45 degrees celcious with nothing but skype open.Rather annoying :( .

This case does look better than the 900 in my opinion. With better cable management. I got the 900 myself but it is very small for higher end graphics cards, especially when you have 2 of them.
Since he probably won't ever use this case again and he's passionate about packaging, he should drop this case in the box off the NCIX building then open it to see how well the packaging holds up.
i am wondering what the best graphic card/s would be for this generation for around 600$ only gtx 500 series and hd 6900 series, ie 2 560ti sli 2 6920 cf or gtx 580 or hd 6970, hope that isnt to confusing, Thanks!
@AgentHydra Eh, the 912 is about twice as expensive at least where I live. The 300 is a cheap but high quality for a cheaper gaming system. It also doesn't look ULTRA EXTREME SUPER EXTREME SHOOTER GAMER FIRST CLASS SERGEANT SHOOTER PERSON.
Cable management is a pain with this case unless you are inventive. I ended up cutting two holes so the cables can all go just behind the back panel and you cant see them. I love this case though, for the price its amazing.
which one should i get this or the 302 my motherboard does not have usb3 blug thing but the 302 has more room and better cable management

i can't believe people still buy this old fossil. the HAF 912 and NZXT Gamma/M59 make this thing completely obsolete.
AgentHydra 9 months ago
@AgentHydra Nice sleek look, good airflow, easily modded.
Jeffguy1542 9 months ago 2
@AgentHydra Eh, the 912 is about twice as expensive at least where I live. The 300 is a cheap but high quality for a cheaper gaming system. It also doesn't look ULTRA EXTREME SUPER EXTREME SHOOTER GAMER FIRST CLASS SERGEANT SHOOTER PERSON.

@AgentHydra Nothing will make the absolutely sexy styling of the Antec 300 obsolete.

@sacrenough just need to make a way to get the PSU to get air from undeneath the case and paint it black for total obsoleteness

I like the design of it but the HAF 912 just has a lot more features for the money.
TheExprima 9 months ago
@TheExprima I agree, but HAF is just hidious
jakovct 9 months ago
@jakovct Quite true.

Cable management is a pain with this case unless you are inventive. I ended up cutting two holes so the cables can all go just behind the back panel and you cant see them. I love this case though, for the price its amazing.
