I don't think the fault lies with the person for getting credit. Instead, the fault lies with the person for not understanding the type of credit they are getting. When many of these mortgages started out, the person getting the loan *could* afford it. The problem is in the fact that the loans had adjustable rates and the person did not understand how much their monthly payment would go up because of that adjustable rate. Ignorance is no excuse, but that really is what's to blame.

Your right, and another thing as soon as an american is out of school (where they cant learn shit) the credit cards are in the mailbox, and I know I didnt know squat at that point and the payments were something like $10 on a $2000 balance and you live and learn, now I'm credit card free but I do have a small home equity loan that will be paid off in 6 months on a mortage no bigger then what I paid for my first dinky one bedroom apartment 20 years ago.

yep thats correct if a sercured loan, ie mortage remember you only have a purchase order on any land, it this country you are entitled to 1 inch of the soil plus the brick and mortar if they recalled the land as its a sercured loan at least you can give it back.
