@Rhetulous no point being sarcastic with me, I only asked because the version I have has much better graphics and thus never saw how the original release looked
TIE Fighter was way ahead of it's time. Despite being a space game in 1994 the game was not confusing and you did not need 10 keyboards for the controls.
TIE FIghter was way better than X-Wing. More vehicles, more weapons, better graphics, better story. Just an all around better game.
The music was great in this game too. It's been so long since I played it, I forgot how foreboding the briefing/loadout screen can be sometimes. Even the first time I played the game through, I sometimes just knew the mission wasn't going to go as planned in the brief.
is this better than x-wing? also, what is that game called x-wing vs. tie fighter? is that a duel game or does it have missions? is it a different game altogether?
I really love this game. Still play it from time to time, like today for example. LOL I found this mission hard. I beat it on medium once, but usually on easy!
Easily the most perfect Star Wars game ever created. You got to be a Tie pilot, had a perfect story line that mixed in a bit of expanded universe, and managed to place you on the evil side, but at the same time make it honourable.
Actually, it is the greatest space combat sim of all time.
@SamusDrake Really. And to think that if it had come out today, it would've been drowned by Rogue Squadron/MW2 kids yelling "too complicated!!111" and "WHY NO JEDII!!!" at the top of their little heads. Sad.
I hear you. Its a crying shame LucasArts no longer follows up on its best SW games such the X-Wing series and Republic Commando.
What pissed me off for years was the constant recycling of the Death Star Trench run, instead of a bloody good game based on Dark Horse Comic's "Dark Empire". The battle of Mon Calamari is gigantic in scope.
An nod towards Elite would also make for a good SW game.
Maybe, but i blocked on 10 campaign. "Protect shuttle (attacked by full squadron of ~R41) and desable transport before they dock on strike cruiser)"...
I want play it, but i haven't windows now. Can it work on linux dosbox? Probably will been many problems with joy...
Most epic game around for it's time...

@PhilosopherGaming This game is from 1994, so no it doesn't have year 2011 style graphics.

They really need to rerelease this game. Exact same gameplay, story, missions. Just with a modern day engine.

I wich Lucasarts would make "flightsimulations" like that again...but I fear that any new game of that genre would be to arcade...

@GlobalDating Because they try to kill you later.

Nostalgia to the extreme!!!!! I used to play this game around 4-5 years old, no joke! Of course I never won any missions or anything...

All I have to say for this mission would be what Admiral Ackbar would say...
"IT'S A TRAP!!!"

I haven't checked out the Total Conversion, is it good?
Demorior 2 years ago
Yes, it is. And in some aspects easier and harder than the original missions.
There are only the battles 1-7 in the retail version but my friend waylon added battles 8-13 in his own expansion.

Capital ships are now a bitch to destroy with unshielded TIEs. In fact being unshielded in the XWA engine is a deathtrap.

I remember that mission. "Full speed to Kilamar!"
That mission had me stuck for quite some time too, but I eventually beat it.

How you could destroy Harkow's rookies before they open fire to you. You don't be better than rebel terrorists. :P
Soontir181 2 years ago
:D ...i had to try this mission about 30 times or so, so in the end I just started destroying them before they come hostile. Makes it even easier..
Demorior 2 years ago
I was quite angry at the time. :s
Demorior 2 years ago
Heh I don't know what, but i passed this mission at first time. Hostile wingmans weren't make any troubles.
