  • Also at 2:33 at the Lorenzo played by part, you'll see EG Daily, AKA Buttercup from Powerpuff Girls.

  • 2:51 If you look under Peter Ustinov's name, you'll see Kathleen Wilhoite, AKA Pepper Ann.

  • I know this is a terrible condition and this movie is pretty but dramatic but I kind of laughed when Lorendo was like

NO STOP IT WITH THE BENJI BUTERMAN BOOKS

  • amazing story!!!!in memory of Lorenzo Odone is father and his mother, that saved people from this disease!!!!thanks to them other people are alive!!!!stories like this are rare if not non-existent!!!!! thanks for uploading it!!!!! really appreciate it!!!!at least one story in which an Italian has nothing to do with the mafia but instead do a great thing!!!!!(i'm italian)

    thanks again:)

  • i watched this movie and it really touched my heart this movie is really sad

  • i love a well done story, even as tragic as this one because today we're left with movies and entertainment rushing to get their point across, but in movies like this, lord of the rings, and such the movie moves at a pace where you get a depth of emotion you can't find in many of our modern movies. hopefully we can get movies like those again in the future

  • Augusto saved all these kids..........

  • Does that mean I dont have compassion if I wasn't "upset" or that I cried like everyone else? I really do feel bad for Lorenzo. It makes me appreciate what I have in this world.

  • Heart touching story. And how long he lived with it. RIP Lorenzo Odone. As well as his mom.

  • Is the oil a real thing??

  • @ApersonY yea it is it comes from england

  • it's absolutely amazing Lorenzo lived until he was 35 YEARS OLD, EVEN WITH HIS SICKNESS! RIP LORENZO ODONE

  • @vincent6445 30. He died the day after his 30th birthday.

  • watched this in class and I literally had to get control of myself. Such an emotional story

  • did he ever get to hear the audio from this movie?

  • wat were they doing to the dogs?

  • @julie101rox Experimenting a way to grow new myelin.

  • lol shut mommy sign

but anyway i watched this in school and it is honestly the best movie i have ever seen

  • This movie really made me open my eyes... My determination to become a doctor is even stronger than before. I will not be a doctor that cares only for the money, for the fame; I will do whatever I can for my patients, no matter what. In that way, I can at least do some justice to the Odone family. RIP Lorenzo Odone.

  • what a very nice movie.. I mean true stOry..

COURAGE is what i've learn in this movie..

    can't heLp but cRied..

  • i cried. gah.

  • lorenzo is one of the strongest people i know. i highly doubt i could survive till 30 with that disease

  • the real lorenzo dies at ?

  • "And one day I'll hear my voice, and all these words I'm thinking will get outside my head" Beautiful Ending Sentence.

  • "one day"

  • Rip Lorenzo

  • they used puppies??!!?

  • They said my daughter would never talk, not to expect much of her. Her seizures at times were unstopable. She suffered greatly due to a severe vaccine reaction. Today she is seizure free and is no longer on the autism spectrum. She has written her first book. I am currently looking for a publisher. She is seven now. There is hope in life - we must NEVER give in to misery and despair.

  • i feel bad for him but not because its a bad thing, but he just shows how strong you can be even with ALD or any illness you can do anything....IMPOSSIBLE IS NOT A WORD BUT COURAGE AND TRY ARE!!!

  • most of us are so ignorant to the things we could be without, we are selfish stupid fools in a state of hopelessness greater than lorenzo's

  • was the myelin research being done in Wisconsin or Italy?

  • I think its safe to say.... Lorenzo's Oil FTW :P

  • Is very Good

  • The ending is so cute... This movie is really touchimg even though I only have to watch it for my bio class...

  • Never underestimate the love of a parent for their child,

it is a love that has no bounderies,no limits,

now if we could love each other like that imagine how many diseases we can cure

and how many people we could save, especially children,

but we all want that new cell phone or new playstation

instead of taking care of what truly matters.

god bless the Odone Family and all families struck by this horrible disease.

  • 1:08 Is that really how it happened? I'd think you'd want to establish communication (1blink=y 2b=n) before returning to entertainment. You don't want to mistake staring or a regular blink for a message. Maybe squeezing his eyes shut tight so they wrinkle would be yes.

The lesson is to keep trying, fuck the experts, become an expert, and you'll progress.

This film came out years ago and I'ven't heard of a cure for MS. Now I'm going to look up what happened with the puppies.

  • 5:49 -> The greatest love is the love of God. he loves you no matter what, and believes in you. And every fallen little angel will be a King in his kingdom!

  • that was so sad...but yet, inspiring.

  • I find it very odd that the boy who plays Lorenzo doesn't appear in the credits.

I looked everywhere but I found no mentioning of him anywhere.

  • This was so beautiful~! ; ^ ; He was so brave... I Wouldn't Have Been Able To Make It. And His Parents Just Kept Going And Going. Were Watching This Is School And It's Just Beautiful. Q ^ Q .... I Can't Explain It Especially "You'll be able to tell your brain, to tell your toes, your fingers, your anything to do what you want them to do. And then, one day I'll hear my voice. And all these words I'm thinking, will get outside my head..."

R.I.P. Lorenzo Odone You Brave Brave Boy Q ^ Q

  • This movie is so inspirational to me. I love it and I can watch it 100 times, it still makes me cry.

  • This actually makes me get up and want to study , and if i was a doctor i would help anyone and not give up because giving up is like making someone loose there life.

  • This is the most wonderfu film I have ever seen...

  • Bless these people and people like them for the drive, and the love for their son, and for people to keep going, to not give up on their sons. It's people like this that enable medical mysteries become unmystified. It's this drive that improves the quality of life, even if some suffering is a necessary evil, which is truly unfortunate, but necessary. People really don't grasp the suffering others have gone through in order for us to live the life we do. Let's be thankful for a change.

  • He died on March 30th, 2008. Of pnemonia of some kind. One day after his 30th birthday. This movie touched my heart, I cried a few times. "You'll be able to tell your brain, to tell your toes, your fingers, your anything to do what you want them to do. And then, one day I'll hear my voice. And all these words im thinking, will get outside my head..."

  • @scratchyhamster10 he did not die from pnemonia he died frm cholking on food and the parametics could not get there in time

  • * May 30th 2008

  • @scratchyhamster10 aspiration pnemonia

  • @scratchyhamster10 i thought it was ALD disease

  • @Dokiizen

He had ALD but didn't die from it, he died one day after his birthday because food got stuck in his lungs, which caused aspiration pneumonia.

  • @scratchyhamster10 Yeah, he got some food in his lungs by accident and it turned into pneumonia. God bless him.

  • @scratchyhamster10 I cried the whole time... I was feeling sorry for myself going through some very tough times when my heart was telling me one thing and my brain something totally different, they were in such conflict and I couldn;t tell my heart to shut up and it was winning over reason... ths touching story let me put my priorities where they belong... I have been telling my brain to do it's thing and it is starting to work. Being tough is not easy... thank you Lorenzo...such an inspiration.

  • @scratchyhamster10 Thanks for ruining the ending for me.

  • @aublitius Don't read the comments then.

  • @scratchyhamster10 Like I want to you jack ass

  • 4:12

    Hmm...

Didn't I see him in Silence of the Lambs?:D

  • @RandomXRockXFan

The cross-eyed actor? Yes, his name is Paul Lazar, and Johnathan Demme uses him recurrently for most of his movies (The Silence of the Lambs, Philadelphia, The Manchurian Candidate,...).

  • this saved my grade thanx!

  • Great movie. I will admit that i teared up at some parts.

  • you would have to be non human not too o

  • The Lorenzo's oil does not work for all, so do not be fooled by the ending. His parents used alot more than just the oil. Their time and energy invested in taking good care of the child has contributed immensely. Lorenzo is still able to function mentally, so he is still impacted by psychological and emotional factors. His father is now a director who heads the myelin project to regenerate his sons's nervous system and others. I believe his organization is very well-funded (5 million+)

  • except now, he's doing it for other people's kids because the real lorenzo died in 2008

  • @WarDawg1986 Hi wardog. Apparently though it probably is a great prophylactic for kids who have the gene but who haven't yet had the symptoms. It's a better preventative than a cure (which it isn't).

  • those parents did so much for their child it's amazing.

as was this movie. absolutely amazing. i don't know how people can fall asleep during it, i guess they don't know a good movie when they see one.

  • Yes, it is. It's also based on a true story. Lorenzo's oil is sold on the market for $1000-2000 USD. Unfortunately, the oil does not work for all due to genetic variation.

  • soo did lorenzo get better??? or did he die??? great sad movie X')

  • Lorenzo lived until one day after his 30th birthday. You can look up 'the Myelin Project' on google and you can find pictures of lorenzo when he was in his 20s. Its a very touching, true story.

  • he remained with symptoms but lived for many years.

    he died just recently.

  • HE's alive. HE's a young man now, but he is still in a sleeping state. Goto the website, you can see pictures of him. His friend from childhood is still by his side. His dedication never ceases.

  • @WarDawg1986

yeah the dedication is totally true, but unfortunately lorenzo died in 2008... see wikipedia

  • @WarDawg1986 He died in 2008 of a special pneumonia after getting some food trapped in his lungs, unfortuantely; one day after his 30th birthday.

  • Ths movie really got to me !

    I love this movie <33

  • sehr schöööööööööööööööööööööööner Flim

  • Touching true story and well-made film in terms of the effect it has on the audience. But the way they portrayed the medical profession was just disgraceful... and largely falsified, as Dr Moser (the real-life basis for Dr Nikolais) himself wrote in the Lancet. Anyhow, as a medical student, I'm quite sympathetic towards Dr Nikolais... there's a huge gap between what doctors are able/allowed to do and what patients expect from them, and I hope never to be in such a position as a doctor.

  • you might be put in that situation depending on which area you specialize in.

  • lovely i finally saw the ending

  • R.I.P. Lorenzo, he just died this past may.

  • bravo <3

  • This was such an inspirational movie. I'm glad I watched it because it's given me a greater interest in the study of this disease. Thanks for posting it.

  • this was one of the best movies i have ever seen. it has a great message. R.i.p to lorenzo.

  • thanks for ruining the ending

  • how is that ruining the ending ?

he doesn't die in the movie ...

  • i watched this for extra credit but i must say it is an amazing film! the science behind it is incredible!

  • this is a good movie kinda boring but it has a good message

  • This movie was assigned by school work, but this movie particularly moved me, and opened me up to how life could be. The odone's were amazing parents, they pushed the barriers of doctors and science to cure their son by simple minded reasoning and research. RIP Lorenzo & Michaela Odone.

  • okay, we get it, now shut up

  • hope you children do to

  • you can kill youself for all i care you should be arrewsted for making fun ald

  • the only reason i watched this was for skewl but this was a REALLy good movie I liked it alot

  • lorenzo oil is the cure for the early stages, lorenzo's brain cell deterioated while waiting for the cure, paizaaan

  • wow, i remember watching this movie when i was a kid, and i love the name lorenzo, so when i have a kid who is a boy, im gona call him lorenzo michael, after lorenzo, looks like he went through more than what most people would go through. its sad that they havnt quite yet found a cure for him, but good on him and his family for finding something to help slow down the process of ALD, i hope there will be a cure soon! RIP lorenzo and Michaela.

  • isnt lorenzo's oil the treatment n cure? o.o

  • There is no cure to adrenoleukodystrophy yet.

and lorenzo's oil is as good as a palliative treatment but not curative. It will surely reduce the accumulation of the long chain saturated fatty acids by making more long chain unsaturated fatty acids but the body still makes these long saturated fatty acids irrespective of the oil and also you eat other foods containing saturated fatty acids The only cure will be to replace the enzyme that transports the fatty acids into peroxisomes with a good one

  • Good point but the oil is stunting the process of neurological damage and is eliminating a line of unneeded acids that ALD causes the body to produce.

  • the oil has crutial side effects

  • omg this movie was amazing. i have to watch it for my freshmen year. (pre-ap biology) and im so glad cause its truly remarkable. and inspiring

  • this was just AWESOME!!!!!!!

    ***

my time for waiting the videos to be uploaded was just worth it...

    ***

were watching this for our chemistry but i was absent the day our class watched it...watching this is worth it...thnx for the one who uploaded this...and this movie just inspired me and added a new meaning in my life^^,

  • What is the book she starts to read to him in the beginning. Who wrote it and what is it called??

  • Thank you for posting this. I have a mild adrenal gland dysfunction which is not life-threatening, but is life-altering. It's frustrating when your brain/body won't do what you want it to, no matter what you eat, drink etc.

One of my high school classmates was diagnosed with MS -- he also awaits a cure.

  • omg that was like one of the best movie's i've seen!! and the videos during the credits made it even better :) that was just awesome....i cried like almost 12 different times

  • R.I.P. Lorenzo Odone

  • thanks so much for posting! great movie.

  • Is lorenzo still alive? How old is he?

  • He died last year a day after his 30th birthday from having a breathing obstruction by food...or something along those lines.

  • he died may 30, 2008 which was one year after his 30th bday. but he lived pretty flippin long for someone with ALD compared to the 2 years the dr.s gave him :)

  • which is good but is laying in a bed staring at the ceiling really living?

  • @KevinCarey yes it is. getting to be with his family was important to him. they put him in a wheelchair and took him places he got to see the world. and he loved pool therapy because water increases your momentum and allows you to move more freely and with less difficulty. he wasnt just staring at a ceiling for 20 years

  • ohh I thought he was bed bound, I didnt know he regained some sight and was able to see things :)

    excellent

  • at age 14 he was able to speak simple phrases

  • @Eqinok237 That's wonderful..

  • Great storey though very hard to watch people go threw terible hardships, And those people trying stop them from trying. What the F!!! step off.

  • this is such a great movie my mom aculy worked for agusto and she helpd lorenzo i used to be there with my mom and him and its so mzing becouse lorenzo waz such a great guy even tho he coulnt talk he waz very smart i miss him he is such a gtreat guy and agusto is a woulderfull guy he lives in verina not to far from washington DC but god bless him and his wife and lorenzo GOD BLESS U

  • this is such a sad movie we had to watch it for honors biology as our end of the year movie and it was sad =] wat a great movie i cried

    and my friends cried

  • I can't listen to Ave Verum Corpus without crying anymore.

Wow, a fantastic movie- thanks for putting it on the Tube.

  • I'm watching this for my Biological themes in films class, very good movie. Just wish the teacher would stick to something more cheerful. I was almost sure that Lorenzo would die.

  • lorenzo died at 30. and his mom died like a few years ago lung cancer...lol but the dad was the one who smoked. very sad movie...but a very good one. i admitt i cried! We just got done watching this in biology...very good movie.

  • haha i am watching this in biology too. i'm watching the end again, though, because all these people were talking, and i missed most of it. lol.

  • man everybody is watchin this in bio and yes i am to im just curious to see what happens and the ending was pretty intersting.

  • hahaha guess what?!?!?! i watched this in bio too! it was a good movie but the questions my bio teacher gave us are a pain in the ass....been working on them for like an hour and there's only 11 of them.

  • im watching it in bio too

  • I watched this in science class

  • i was watching this in my bio too . sooooooooo sad

  • it seems like we all saw this in bio class!

  • crazy ass shit....so sad

    but amazing i watched

    it in bio 2 haha

  • it was really sad moive. he had lived more than 20years onger than doctors had predicted. check out an ariticle call Subject of Film "Lorenzo's oil" Dies at 30 by Sarah brumfield.

  • We are watching this movie in Bio Too! :)

  • What a sad story. Such a cruel disease. I hope they find a cure soon.

  • stem cell implants can possible form new myelin linings

  • Oh my gosh we were just learning about stem cells in Biology! I love how this all connects together, that actually makes sense too. Wow, so many more discoveries that are just waiting to be shown to the world...

  • what??? they found the cure for A.L.D. thats what the ending was about, how they found the cure and saved many lives from now and to come...thank you lorenzo and the adones gob bless you!!!

  • Not really a cure actually. It sort of is because it can stop the disease if taken early enough and they keep taken it. But if the disease already starts then it can't get rid of it, just slow the process down. They will probably still die at some point from complications from ALD but the oil can help give them time. So now what we need is a cure that will get rid of it when they have it already.

  • it was not lung cancer

  • i saw this in child development, it made me cry, however its good to know lorenzo's dad didnt stop until he got what he wanted

  • "...And then one day... I'll hear my voice... And all these words I'm thinking... Will get outside my head."

  • He was lived 23 years longer than expected

  • Such a good movie. I too watched it in AP Biology

  • were watchin this movie in biology

  • RIP Lorenzo

For fighting so hard through times that most of can't even imagine....

  • Augusto is responsible for saving all these kids, WOW!!!! RIP Lorenzo & Michaela.

  • Lorenzo died at his home in Fairfax, Virginia on May 30, 2008, one day after his 30th birthday, with his father Augusto and his life long friend Omouri Hassane at his side. He had come down with aspiration pneumonia after getting food stuck in his lungs. He began breathing heavily (erroneously described by various media reports as "bleeding heavily"), and before an ambulance reached his home he was already dead.

  • thanks, But what happened whit his mother?, with Michaela?, sorry my English is very bad.

  • Vcantu, i think Michaela died of lung cancer. Im not 100% sure, but thats what i think i saw when i found the information on Lorenzo

  • Yes, Michaela died of lung cancer. In the movie it showed that Augusto smoked a lot, which eventually led Michaela to die from second hand smoke.

  • His mother died of cancer in 2000

  • i heard from my bio teacher that she died

  • The mom? Yes she did, she had cancer. Lorenzo died too, pnuenomia, but he lived pretty long for somebody with ALD!

  • RIP LORENZO

P.s great movie make me cry

  • Thank u for posting this video :)

  • Thank you so much for posting this. My cousin died of ALD a couple of years ago and i've wanted to this film for ages.

    Thanks again and merry christmas!

  • RIP Lorenzo
