My first thought while watching this was, "Man, he's gotten old". The second thought was "Man, he's still got it". And Marty (a talented musician in his own right) had the good sense to just stay out of his way and let John work his magic. Prine wrote this song when he was in his twenties, he always seemed wiser than his years, it's interesting to hear him sing this at his age. Here's to you Mr. Prine, "May your home always be too small to hold all of your friends".
I love when people ask who's your favorite singer ?and you say John Prine and they say John Who? and you just think to yourself what they've missed all these years
@blundon dont worry prine is constantly touring.his health is fine.he love to be on the road.check out ohboy records.com for his tour schedule.just like dylan he is always out there.
Heard John Prine sing this song for the first time in the summer of 78 .... always have loved the lyrics great tune. Course only a class act like Marty would bring him back to the attention he deserves.
John Prine looks like a cartoon bear in the face now. Like from the Gummy Bears show. And he is as always one of the greatest songwiters I have heard. He deserves his fame. This makes me feel like rope on the Goodyear blimp.
Like Marty, I can't pick my favorite Prine song, but this one is on the short list. Very, very nicely done, kudos to Marty for setting this up. He filled Steve Goodman's shoes quite well. Thanks for sharing this, I'd never seen it, and it's a keeper.
i love both these artists especially Prine... you know i don't know why but i have always thought Marty might be the son of Johnny Cash! But, i was also crazy enough to think Clint Black was the son of Roy Rogers! I guess i'm just a crazy old man...
@dannooozy John Prine was born Oct 10 1946.....he is 64....just a few days younger than me. Saw John Prine in concert last friday in Kalamazoo Michigan...what a artist!!
This originally aired on "The Marty Stuart Show" on RFDtv. The airdate was January 2nd, 2010, but it was pre-recorded. Great song. Prine also performed "Paradise" [1971] & "Speed Of The Sound Of Loneliness" [1986] on the show. 1000Magicians has uploaded these, too. Prine is a living legend. Finally saw him live last year with Levon Helm as his opening act.
I'm afraid to say I didn't know who John Prine was till the Marty Stuart show on RFD. Wow, I was so impressed then started looking things up on him. I like him as he ages better. Just want to say hats off to him and Marty Stuart as well, for just being a great and talented guys. Its all good!
A remarkable video, must have been from RFD TV. I can't believe how the years have slipped away from JP. I look in the mirror and ask myself the same thing. Where has time gone and what do I have to show for it ? Now almost 60 years old It seems like just yesterday JP was playing those songs back in the day . God Bless JP and all of us who have experienced the pleasure and joy of music through the ages. Man.... I love this guy and his gifted writing ........... he Followed his brothers advice
A magical post, thank you 1000Magicians. My eyes filled with tears not only with the song which is my favorite of all his wonderful tunes but also with my hope that he will be around for many years to come. I most sincerely wish him All the best.
Teary I am is all I can say! Stirred up my emotions like when the wind stirs up autumn leaves in the Fall. What am I saying?! Loved this never heard this before. Wise Old Man!
I must agree John Prine is a truly national treasure. We have seen him so many times we have lost count and if he was playing within 200 miles tomorrow we would be on our way!
Beautiful song.
