Am doing my first ever half marathon in April then from there I intend to do the full marathon in the future. I am so excited that I train hard now knowing that I have a goal to achieve. Watching these vidoes, listening to personal experiences just makes me want to do it even more.
@1horseforever I'm also running my first marathon this fall, in Chicago. I'm 19 and am extremely excited and ready to start training. Best of luck to you!
wow this this just made me cry, im not sure why but i guess its so inspirational. my first marathon is in the fall. the adrenaline and the motivation and the high is what will make me finish. i'm not even 18 yet so thats even more motivation. i now need to watch this movie!
Some people just don't understand the positive feeling and challenges we runners face after finishing a 1/2. Well my really excited for my first mercedes marathon coming up this feb. 2012 It will be a physical and mental challenge, I believe my body and mind could handle this. It will be a dedication to my parents. :)
Exactly one year ago I lost a precious friend of mine, It was a terrible shock and I didn't know how to react against the pain I was feeling. One day I said "Why don't you run?" and once I've started I've realized that this would have been my way to carry on, I felt immediately better. Next spring it will be my second marathon, and I'll run not only for me, but also for who's looking at me from the sky....
i'm a sixteen year old girl and I finished my first marathon yesterday. It was THE hardest thing i've ever done in my life, but now i feel like i can do anything.. once i stop limping of course
Philadelphia marathon 3 days away.... there is one thing im sure is going to happen ...finish it no matter what.Good luck to all first timers like myself.
"100 days until my 1st marathon, 11/13/11" ... stress fracture in my 5th metatarsal, and I will not be running! :-( However, I will be running the National Marathon in DC on March 17th! Good luck to everyone and take care of your feet! :-)
@jupitercrash07 get excited, but don't be afraid, your body is stronger than what you think, if you have train them well. And, the moment you step into the crowd before the race begin, the adrenaline will make you feel really healthy! :-).enjoy every moment of the 42.195km journey, and, best of luck!
I've been running since 1990, on average 1000 miles a year, and at the start of the year 2016, I would have run around the planet Earth, which for me is my ultimate lifelong marathon. But I've never entered a competition, run a road race, as I'm not interested in putting down others in the process.....
great video... i finished my first marathon yesterday in sydney in 31degC, the hottest temperature i've ever run in. i'll definetely be back for more as i'm only 18 yrs old and have my whole life ahead of me. anyone can run a marathon if you really want it

I've done a marathon..."hit the wall" at 15 miles...hobbled my way to the finish line. It was a memorable experience--but it did not "change my life forever". It was a kind of pointless hell, pushing the body for so long in this way. You are actually do yourself harm--going so far, at so brisk a pace. I will likely never do another marathon.

We may be born to walk but we can run a lot more than most other animals with ease when trained. Some people have run, albeit slow, a marathon a day for a whole year without arthritis obviously.
And America not being realtistic nottsrunner? YOU grow up. Competition and awards and action and sportsmanship and fun and racing people not only to beat them but to have fun with something that you enjoy and are good at is very realistic?
@maxwel411411411 Only to be saddled with arthritis or some other degenerative condition that all of those years of extreme training and distance running can bring. In such a state, the accumulation of medals and tokens may not bring as much solace and satisfaction as one might suppose.
@best496 All of the pounding of foot to ground and the weight behind it causes injury to the joints. People seldom let the injuries heal before they are out running again, reinjuring and causing yet more damage. The cumulative effects of constant running are degenerative join ailments.
In my opinion, the body is biomechanically designed to WALK. NOT to run. One runs only short distances to get away from danger.
And you obviously are basing your opinions on one women. Some women say that when they have completed a lifelong dream, but then again, who wouldn't? You're obivously just jealous of people who have completed things that you never could complete. So please sir, grow up, man up, and DO NOT talk to me fool.
And I rapped about Harry Potter, not to Harry Potter. I play piano and do very well in school and will study the medical field in and after college and attend medical school after college. Someone who thinks there's wrong with being very happy after they've completed something they worked very hard for is a really dumb retard. And you are basing your facts on one women. You don't show any other examples of how people are so "wrongfuly" emotional after completing a lifelong dream.
@Melopeed :( stress fracture in my 5th metatarsal. This happened on September 8th, the previous day I ran 18 miles, my longest run to date. I was in an immobilization boot (air cast) for 4 weeks. Today I ran 3 miles on a treadmill and it hurts like hell. Time put back on the air cast and hang up the running shoes for a few months. I WILL run a marathon in the Spring of 2012 and many more after that. For now, I'm lifting weights and doing serious abs work 5x/week. Not giving up!!!
@pwillits80 good for you man..i never thought about marathons but just today i ran 2 miles in the morning and i was thinking what if i train for a marathon..too bad i work all the time and have to support a family but maybe one day when i have the time..id give u my legs if i could..PAIN IS TEMPORARILY PRIDE IS FOREVER
running is one of the best things i have found in life i run at least six days per week for me its spiritual and simple it makes me feel alive and my head feels clear. i learnt something recently that man was originally designed to out run its prey watch this and you will see its truly amazing,
This video made me start training for marathons last year summer. Especially when the old fellow said he does something that most people can't do. I did my first in Montreal in 3h45, 4 month later and it was awesome. I'm a runner now and aiming for sub-3h next year. Yeah this trailer made it all happen. This is so wicked!!!
I start running when I was 17. Now I'm 34 and I still loving it and have this amazing feeling like on first time. This is amazing, but any one of us have different reason to run. When I do my running I feel like I'm walking in my dream. This experience growing when I feel extremely exhausted. Thats why I hose very long distance. When I feel pain, I'm enjoy it;)
i love, love , love this movie. i have always loved running even when i was little. but i had horrible asthma as a kid so i never could do much physical activity. now that its under control i run all the time. running gives me a sense of freedom and peace.
Hey people. Pray for me now. Because I'm starting my run training like in 20 minutes. Marathon training begins today. I'm scared. A deep deep fright is in me.
I read a lot of great stories in the comments...and the reason finishing the race and crossing that finish line changes your life is because it changes your identity...after you do something you tough was impossible...it's like WHAM !!! "If I could do that, I wonder what else I can do" That's why it changes people...it gives them a reality check of making the impossible possible.
Running is unlike any other sport in my opinion. Any person at any point can start doing it. Unlike other sports, I truly believe running is more a mental challenge than an actual physical challenge. You need to be in good shape to do well, but its your mind over your body that helps you finish. I decided my first race would be a marathon (Providence marathon 2011) and finished in 3:45:53. I just did my 2nd race, a 7.1 mile race in 48:23. Something about crossing that finish line...you crave it
i started running to loose weight and gave up smoking, i have done a 10k, i'm doing my first half marathon tomorrow morning, i cannot wait till i can do a full marathon.
how'd it go? Completely a full marathon is an amazing feeling. If you could do half, you can do a full, maybe not as fast, but gaurantee you can do it.
@muham8 - it went very well thankyou, i finished in 1:58 which i was more than happy with as i do not have a runners build (i am 6ft 1 and 210) so was looking for a finish of between 2 and 2:15. it rained the whole time, but that did not bother me. mentally i am sure i could do a marathon, unfortunately my shins (shin splints) and my knees (ligament pain) will need many months more training before they can cope.
that's awesome. Anything under personal goal time is always a great achievement. Sometimes the rain can benefit you, cools you off quicker. Get your rest and keep it up. Good way to get ready for a marathon is to start looking for one months in advance and sign up for it. I signed up for San Francisco (July 31st). Hoping to qualify for Boston but still have some training to do to get under that 3 hour 10 minute mark.
This is a great testament to the power of human courage!! I am a runner who was hit by a car while running and told I would never walk the same again, yet alone run! It takes courage, but after 2 years - I am running again:)
Runners gets Hit by car - Told She'd Never Run Again.
More Power to you! I am happy you over came your pain and never gave up on your dream. You are a true Metaphysician...you went beyond limitations set by others. Blessings and may you always draw upon The Spirit within you. Share your story. You never know who needs to hear it to keep going on. Bravo and thanks for sharing.
@2live4give Thank you. And one thing that came out of it is my new book, Poetry for the Soul, now on sale at Amazon. Please check it out. "poetry for the soul, dawn ciccone"
I did my first 5k race last Friday. One day, I'll be able to run a marathon. 5 months ago, 5 k was a joke. Last Friday, I did it in 28.53 minutes. That feeling was the most beautiful feeling ever, running together with 650 other people, completing it. I can't even imagine how amazing running a marathon will feel.
I'm not sure, I live in Holland where you have to be 18 in order to run a half or a full marathon. I'm 16 years old right now, and I'm pretty sure next year I would be able to do a half marathon but since I'm not 18 yet by then I think I'll do some 15 k or 18 k or something, because that's okay if you're under 18, and by the time I'm 18 I will see what's most comfortable to me :P I won't do a full marathon if I feel my body isn't ready yet.
@Esutaaa Go for it ! There is a race in a city near mine and, for the half marathon, into the 12-19 male, the guy who finished first finished 10 th among 420 overall with a chrono of : 1:22. Wow, 16, it still remains you... about... 60 years to enjoy the sport... Good continuation !
@Esutaaa I forgot, 5 and 10 k are perfect to work your quickness. At 18, if you will complete your first half marathon, you will be dream about the marathon... all the time...
Jesus, you american's are so dramatic and overly-emotional it's unbelievable. the Blonde haired chick thats like "I literally thought I could never be happy again". What the hell?? Running is about having a pair of balls, it's not about "finding yourself again" or whatever. It's whether you've got the bollocks to achieve something that most people can't and at the same time beating everyone else in the race. If American's were more realistic and not so dramatic then things would be loads better!
@nottsrunner1992 So let me get this straight, you're making a generalization about the population of an entire country based on the testimony of one woman featured in a documentary that intentionally tries to invoke emotion from its audience? Grow up.
@aznxkigga No, I'm making this 'Generalization' based on 20years of Geographical learnings into American society and culture. This woman only helps to prove a point that so many millions of people around the world already understand. Ofcourse it would be stupid of me to base my facts on one woman so thats why I spent 20years researching and studying American life. So no sir, you grow up.
@maxwel411411411 Grow up makes no sense what so ever. so you're telling me that running's not about having balls and just getting on with it??? And i honestly don't know how you can tell me to grow and that I'm a retard when your profile page is listed with videos of you 'rapping' to Harry Potter. So please don't try and make me look like the fool when your rapping to a boy wizard. wierdo.
I'm calling you a retard for calling America dramatic about running when you just SAID it is about the same time beating people, because that is what they are dramatic about clueless fool. A little competition and racing people is not dramatic, and being HAPPY that you won is not dramatic. People are happy after they have completed a lifelong dream, for example, to become a really fast runner. Since you think this is crazy, I doubt you have completed any of your so called "dreams."
i'm a high schooler, and next year i want to run the local marathon but it's on the same day as a CIF track meet i really want to get into... i can't decide for which one i want to train
I remember my first marathon. It was frightening and exhilarating at the same time. Enjoy it! You'll be back for more:) youtube.com/watch?v=bdeNrb-h-tI
on feb 13th 2011 i ran my first half marathon at the age of 15, my time was 1:26:44, and i love to run and i hope god gives me the strength to run till i die, so i can become a running icon to inspire thousands of people to run.
iv always wondered why running, SPECIFICALLY running makes you feel elated, and happy. im addicted to weight lifting but it tends to create more of a tired response as opposed to when i jog and really get that great happy feel
I'd say that most don't. Elite ones typically do, since that body type represents an advantage; but most of us aren't elite runners. You're unlikely to come out of marathon training looking like Paul Tergat for the same reason that you're unlikely to end up like Arnold Schwarzenegger if you take up body building. (Of course, I say all this without having a clue as to what your particular body type is like.)

And America not being realtistic nottsrunner? YOU grow up. Competition and awards and action and sportsmanship and fun and racing people not only to beat them but to have fun with something that you enjoy and are good at is very realistic?
maxwel411411411 5 months ago
@maxwel411411411 Only to be saddled with arthritis or some other degenerative condition that all of those years of extreme training and distance running can bring. In such a state, the accumulation of medals and tokens may not bring as much solace and satisfaction as one might suppose.
weedermann 5 months ago in playlist Spirit of a Marathon
@weedermann thats not true. running does not give you arthritis
best496 5 months ago
@best496 All of the pounding of foot to ground and the weight behind it causes injury to the joints. People seldom let the injuries heal before they are out running again, reinjuring and causing yet more damage. The cumulative effects of constant running are degenerative join ailments.
In my opinion, the body is biomechanically designed to WALK. NOT to run. One runs only short distances to get away from danger.
weedermann 5 months ago
And you obviously are basing your opinions on one women. Some women say that when they have completed a lifelong dream, but then again, who wouldn't? You're obivously just jealous of people who have completed things that you never could complete. So please sir, grow up, man up, and DO NOT talk to me fool.
maxwel411411411 5 months ago

When I do my running I feel like I'm walking in my dream. This experience growing when I feel extremely exhausted. Thats why I hose very long distance. When I feel pain, I'm enjoy it;)

@ilifter
how'd it go? Completely a full marathon is an amazing feeling. If you could do half, you can do a full, maybe not as fast, but gaurantee you can do it.
muham8 7 months ago
@muham8 - it went very well thankyou, i finished in 1:58 which i was more than happy with as i do not have a runners build (i am 6ft 1 and 210) so was looking for a finish of between 2 and 2:15. it rained the whole time, but that did not bother me. mentally i am sure i could do a marathon, unfortunately my shins (shin splints) and my knees (ligament pain) will need many months more training before they can cope.
ilifter 7 months ago
@ilifter
that's awesome.

@Esutaaa Is your next step to be half marathon ?
WALTKRIEG 7 months ago
@WALTKRIEG
Esutaaa 7 months ago
@Esutaaa Go for it ! There is a race in a city near mine and, for the half marathon, into the 12-19 male, the guy who finished first finished 10 th among 420 overall with a chrono of : 1:22. Wow, 16, it still remains you... about... 60 years to enjoy the sport... Good continuation !
WALTKRIEG 7 months ago
@Esutaaa I forgot, 5 and 10 k are perfect to work your quickness. At 18, if you will complete your first half marathon, you will be dream about the marathon... all the time...

Jesus, you american's are so dramatic and overly-emotional it's unbelievable. the Blonde haired chick thats like "I literally thought I could never be happy again". What the hell?? Running is about having a pair of balls, it's not about "finding yourself again" or whatever. It's whether you've got the bollocks to achieve something that most people can't and at the same time beating everyone else in the race. If American's were more realistic and not so dramatic then things would be loads better!
nottsrunner1992 8 months ago
@nottsrunner1992 So let me get this straight, you're making a generalization about the population of an entire country based on the testimony of one woman featured in a documentary that intentionally tries to invoke emotion from its audience? Grow up.
aznxkigga 8 months ago
@aznxkigga No, I'm making this 'Generalization' based on 20years of Geographical learnings into American society and culture. This woman only helps to prove a point that so many millions of people around the world already understand. Ofcourse it would be stupid of me to base my facts on one woman so thats why I spent 20years researching and studying American life. So no sir, you grow up.

I'm with the other guy. Grow up retard.
maxwel411411411 8 months ago
@maxwel411411411 Grow up makes no sense what so ever. so you're telling me that running's not about having balls and just getting on with it??? And i honestly don't know how you can tell me to grow and that I'm a retard when your profile page is listed with videos of you 'rapping' to Harry Potter. So please don't try and make me look like the fool when your rapping to a boy wizard. wierdo.
nottsrunner1992 7 months ago
I'm calling you a retard for calling America dramatic about running when you just SAID it is about the same time beating people, because that is what they are dramatic about clueless fool. A little competition and racing people is not dramatic, and being HAPPY that you won is not dramatic. People are happy after they have completed a lifelong dream, for example, to become a really fast runner. Since you think this is crazy, I doubt you have completed any of your so called "dreams."
