  • Genius of an idea! Grassroots !

  • Boston is the best !! Wicked cool!!

  • Are we still allowed to submit ? :)

  • where is that meadow...

  • is this still going on because i just posted a response video...

  • so is this still going on then?

  • Hey, is it cool if we do one video with multiple people? I would like my Ukrainian English club to particpate... maybe each take a line of the story?

  • @robs723 Yeah, that would be totally cool to do! :)

  • Thanks for all of the interest everyone. :) Just letting you all know that you can still submit video responses, and that they'll ALL be included on the final map, regardless of whether there's more than one for a given region. The map has been made, and will be launched very soon!

Thanks so much for the interest and the participation :) you've all been fantastic!

  • This guys accent is from hogwarts.

  • I want to drop-kick your ginger ass !!! xD

  • There are definitely different accents within States in the US. Virginia has a wide variety of accents (and in-between sort of accents) depending upon region.

  • Fap

  • youre missing at least one phonetic sound. theres no word with an "hu" or "hue" or something that produces a similar sound, ive noticed in my own time that there are a lot of varieties in how to pronounce that sound

  • I couldn't help but notice that there's none from the Netherlands... perhaps I could do that then? :D

  • Does Skyrim accents count too?

  • should've named it Foreign Accent Project

    or FAP, for short :D

  • Google the International Dialects of English Archive, it's pretty much the same thing as this.

  • You should search for "Speech Accent Archive". Huge database of accents from all over.

  • Okay I just recorded a video for this project and I want to reply. My situation may be a bit tricky since I've moved around different areas in the US, but I just wanted to try it anyway. I must be blind. I can't find the button to post my video as a reply.

  • Okay. I think I found the button now. Trying it.

  • I haven't heard or seen anyone submit a corrupted accent...i.e. people who have grown up between places so they're speech isn't a "pure" dialect...there's a lot of us in thr US.

  • Can I make a Panamanian Accent one? =)

  • What a very cool ideal ;-) I wish I had thought of it :-/

  • I highly recommend launching another set for children (if you are concerned about protecting the child's identity, you could ask for audio only)... I have noticed that a lot of people are trying to prove that they do not have the stereo-typical accent of their region; but, I have moved around enough to know that the accents are real. I think kids would be less likely to modify their voice while reading the passage.

  • Never you mind; I figured it out!

  • This is silly...but this is my first time using YouTube, and I'm not sure how to add my "WAP" video as a response to this one!

  • is it matt or mad?

    U MATT?

  • @Itachi21x I'm Matt :)

  • @OmniPictures

    thanks

its hard to understand english accents if you aren't from an anglo saxon country :D

  • Perkele! I have got a cold, so I do not dare to participate, yet. Also tiny tripod for my Creative Vado would be nice thing to have. But, anyway, I hope as many Finns as possible will participate ASAP!

  • I'm soooo doing this! :)

  • Nicaraguan Accent!

  • can i still participate? it would be really cool if i could make one :)

  • @nannaew of course :) BUT, it's going to be relaunched on AnglophonicAccents very soon, so you might want to wait for then. :) It doesn't matter if you don't want to wait though, because it's a simple matter of changing which video it's a response to, when it's on the other channel.

  • @OmniPictures ahh okay! thanks for letting me know, maybe i'll wait til that than. :)

  • What about from korea? :)

  • Mexican accent!!

  • I sent you now my video :D

  • Comment removed

  • I'm participating with my russian accent

  • And what about Czech accent? :) Anyway perfect idea!

  • I'll do a video! I've never uploaded anything to YouTube before. I know there's been a bunch of Virginians already but they sound kinda odd.. maybe cause they're all from Northern VA? But anyway I'll do a video too, this is a totally awesome idea.

  • is this still going on? I have one from my gf in Shanghai

  • @wingwaabuddha yep :)

  • @wingwaabuddha Hey, buddy?

Are you talking of a video? If so, I'd love to see it. I think there isn't one "from" China.

    See you.

  • This is very relevant to my interests. My first language is English, but I was born, raised and currently live in three different places, and I can't be certain how heterogeneous my accent really is. I think I'm seriously considering doing this.

Must a submission have live video with the audio? I can record an audio clip of my voice, no problem.

  • I hope it is not too late to add a video! I hope to do mine this week!

  • hi matt

  • Hello Matt, How's your mapping going for the project? Would you eventually have a website or something?

  • @MapleMottle Yep, the map has been made but it's yet to be published. :) I think it'll be at most a month before it's online, so not long to wait! :)

Thanks for your participation in the project by the way! I really like your accent, it's so unusual! Chinese + Australian = WIN! :D

  • @OmniPictures aaaah thanks for your compliment! It looks like I have missed out on the mapping, but even if I do, I won't know where to locate myself....lol

I have thoroughly enjoyed watching other videos of different accents, it's a really cool project. Good on you!

  • @MapleMottle No worries, you can always add your video to the map later! :) When it's online, just send me a message with the location you want your video to be positioned. :) There'll be a tutorial by that time too, so it should be easy.

Glad you've enjoyed all the videos! But, it's not so much my doing, but the doing of all of the people who have taken part! Good on them (and you, in fact)! :D

  • Very cool!!!!!

  • i must upload one from qld australia, yes, yes i will, i must

  • Must get webcam for this.

  • WHERE IS THIS FILMED?! It is beautifullllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll!

  • Yes!!! Finally I will understand how the Brits feel about accents and how they're always saying OMG UR FROM SOUTH/NORTH LONDON and mainly I'm referring to the play pygmalion which we're reading in school... I envy Brit's for their accent diversity as compared to the US and w/e haha, awesome, I can use this to learn accents :)

  • @Stealthanugrah USA has just as much accent diversity. It just maps out differently because of the patterns of migration -- it's harder to tie the accents and their characteristics to specific, named regions. And there is a less developed tradition of *talking about* the accents like in Britain. They have labels that US hasn't developed. Once you put the label on something, it seems to exist more...but things that haven't been labeled still exist!

  • Okay, you got a sub from me because of your kind words about the "Southern American" accent... Not sure whether you were referring to the southern part of America (which includes me) or the South American continent, but there ya go!

  • For fun there should be a vote on the worst sounding accent. No offence, but it's gotta be somewhere in England.

  • @ezzthemc Sorry, I think that's a terrible idea. :\ How do you think the people with the "worst accent" would feel? What would happen if it was your accent that got "picked", it wouldn't be very fun would it?

No accent is bad, and no accent can sound the "worst" because accents are entirely subjective. Accents are just different, and each as good as the other.

For example, I know some Americans don't like the Southern American accent, but I personally love it to bits - it's awesome. :D

  • @OmniPictures Honestly, if people thought my accent (Toronto, Canada) is the worst, I'd find it hilarious. I recently realized how ridiculous it sounds compared to other accents while living abroad.

Of coarse it's absurd to decide on what accent sounds the worst, that's the whole point! But I guess not everyone shares my sense of humor (especially on YouTube) so you probably shouldn't take my suggestion. :)

By the way, I wasn't making fun of your accent. I hope I didn't offend you.

  • @OmniPictures I can tell you that mine is the most bland-sounding, though. The basic Ohio accent is almost a non-accent... On the upside, it allows us to be more versatile with picking up other accents. =D

  • @ezzthemc best one would of course be northern scotland

  • is it possible to have an international accent? cause i have no idea what my accent is XD

  • @82914Yingying Sure, go ahead. :D

  • @82914Yingying Where are you from? You may simply have the "Standard" accent from your country.

  • @wkunzelman1 im from taiwan but ive been studying in an international school in vietnam for like,,6 yrs now

  • I added one more Russian accent from Moscow because I think that it better represents our accentthan existing examples.

You can find it, if you want, in youtube searching engine:

worldwide accent project Russian accent Moscow

  • Is it too late to make video?? I hope not :L (btw Im from Bournemoth, england :D)

  • @famousfive30 It's never too late ;) the project is infinite :)

  • @theguymjp Ahh okay ;) thats good then :) i will try and get my video up asap ;D

  • Third person from Louisville here. I might consider contributing, since I grew up here in Louisville but my accent is actually more South Jersey/Philadelphia. That's where I'm from and my family retains the accent. I have a sort of hybrid Philly/Florida/Louisville accent, so it might be an interesting comparison.

  • This is an awesome idea! Looks like Brits are a bit under represented though, so I'll try and contribute for the East Midlands soon-ish :)

  • Hey, would it be too late to still make one?

  • This was such a great idea, I enjoyed making a video for it!

  • Is it still running?

  • A local boy :) I'm from Workington, but I now live in Carlisle. My accents a unholy mix of everywhere I've lived. So it wouldn't reflect any particular area very well.

  • @Chrisindapurplehouse I miss Carlisle... best city ever IMO. :)

It'd still be great if you could take part though. There haven't been many British people taking part, in comparison. :)

  • I need to do one of these. I'm from Louisville, Kentucky.

  • @UofLCardFan08 You should! I am from Louisville as well.

  • I love the British accent :D

  • yey just uploaded mine, (scotland)

  • May I ask where exaclty was this filmed ? This place looks absolutely beautiful.

    thank you:)

    x

  • @ddelfao Exactly? Well... the park just past the houses on the right side of Llwyn Road, Oswestry, Shorpshire, England. =)

It was early morning (I wanted to do it before I got to school and before anyone else was around), which also contributed to how nice it looks. That fog with the rising sun coming up was gorgeous. It was rather cold though, as it was getting into Autumn.

  • @OmniPictures Ahh ! What a view that must have been. With the little birds chirping as well.

  • Wow this looks like a lot of fun. I'd love to do this. Though I'm not sure if I have an accent. Maybe to the rest of the world I do. LOL

  • Thanks for starting this wonderful and interesting endeavour! It has been extremely fascinating watching all the various videos!

  • Is it possible for me to make a video of me speaking in multiple accents with me identifying them before or after I speak them?

  • @Aar0nDavis If that's what you want to do, sure. =)

  • I have to thank Nella for linking to this video on her twitter. Going to post a response soon.

  • fun! i wanna do it to!

  • Anyone from Newfoundland post anything? There's quite a few different accents here too.

  • I'm in love with this project!

  • hey i made one :) check it out! michigan accent..

  • fap to da w.a.p.!

    iz dat wrong? XD

  • Are you still doing this? Can you still submit videos? Because I would love to post a video to help you and stuff! :D

  • @Kylie8kylie of course :) the project has no end, as videos will be added to the map (which is being made...) whenever they're made.

  • DEAR GOD, WHERE ARE YOU?! it looks fake... aahhhh i'm REALLY jealous

  • @kaylashalaylaaaaa It was only the light that was making it super-pretty :) It's pretty anyway, but not THAT pretty xD early morning sun and fog is just awesome :)

it's just at my local park, btw, on the outskirts of town next to fields and woods etc.

  • @kaylashalaylaaaaa

He says he's from Cumbria, and that looks like it could be Cumbria in the background. Google Image 'cumbria'

  • @kaylashalaylaaaaa i agree, Where are you? lol and by the way, are you single?

  • @layla303 lolllllllololololololololol there's a first time for everything... yes, and i'm nowhere close to this sadly!

  • I'm doing one for Pennsylvania. It seems that one hasnt been done yet.

  • @SophiaMify hahaha we posted ours around the same time but we're like cross country! xD

  • @TheHeatherfeather1 Your accent is quite different than mine. That's interesting. :)

  • @SophiaMify hahah i know! i've been to Pennsylvania once, like forever ago but people there always commented on how different i sounded and wanted to know where i was from. lol have you even been to GA/or down this way? :]

  • @TheHeatherfeather1 The only southern state I've been to is Florida, but I would love to visit Georgia sometime. I'm always up for an adventure (even if it's just traveling to another state for a few days). What did you think of us crazy pennsylvanians? ;)

  • @SophiaMify hahaha well i wasnt in PA very long, just passed through while traveling, i have more family still up north. but im telling ya, people wayyyy north, like connecticut..they are MEAN! [[no offense to anyone from there ;P ]] like down here everyone just wants to feed you and talk your ear off and i guess people up north keep more to themselves? haha

  • @TheHeatherfeather1 haha, yeah people tend to be not so friendly around here. Still there are some nice people who are easy to get along with... they're just more rare. It must be nice to have a friendly, accepting neighborhood.

  • @SophiaMify i think thats every where though, for the most part. haha believe me there are plenty of crabby people down here to. xP lolol!

  • @TheHeatherfeather1 haha, I believe it. :)

  • i'm going to do a georgian accent! haha i went through the video responses and not ONE was from georgia, USA. :] haha this should be interesting. haha

  • What was this filmed on?

  • When I speak it sounds differently from when I read from texts (I prefer my naturally spoken English than the reading ). English is a second language for me, but I'll give it a go.

  • Im going to make one from the Hill Country in Texas, ive been looking around havent seen much from around here. My computer with the camera is broken so it will be a week or two- hope i dont miss the boat

  • This project is brilliant! A friend of mine was surprised I don't sound like a "country girl' because of where I'm from (Utah, USA) and I know lots of people who accuse youtubers from Australia of being fake because they sound a more what I call "laid-back British" and not like the Croc Hunter or Crocodile Dundee...

  • Hehe, I know what you mean about Aussies. :) A friend of mine (who's from down under) says that he usually can't tell the difference because some regions sound so similar.

  • This is an awesome idea :) I'm going to do mine now :P

  • I like cheerios

  • Of course there is never an Idaho accent *sigh* I guess I'll have to do it ;D even though my accent is different ;P

  • All right mate do you want an Essex accent?

  • im gonna do this! im from oklahoma, but everyone i talk to says i have a weird accent, maybe cuz its becasue i lived in northern/chicago area illinois when i was learning how to talk haha!

  • @ItsEmmalicious or maybe because your for your hometown it says AUSTRALIA? xD

  • @hardstyle905 perharps!!!

  • @hardstyle905 well thats just a joke :)

  • @OmniPictures weee~ okay, I will take part =D

  • im from Israel but i dont have such an accent should i take part????

  • @ijonathann Of course! :) Any accent, even if it's not specific, is most welcome.

  • Would it be okay if you had more then one person representing the same state/country/region?

  • @vampiricange Yep! :) It really doesn't matter if there are loads of people for one region - the videos will all make it onto the final map.

  • good idea! I'm from Malaysia =)

  • @syifabolous Brill! :D I'd like to hear the Malaysian accent. :) Could you take part?

  • Anyone from Long Island yet?

  • @polarbear3295 I don't think so! :) Even if there was, it wouldn't matter - if more than one person makes a video for the same region, all of the participant's videos will still make it to the final map.

  • i live like 50 minutes from you :D

  • @houlker199 :O Really? Shropshire seems to be a YouTube void... I've not come across a single YouTuber who's close. :( I'm all alone... well, unless I increase the radius to 50 minutes, and then you come onto the radar. :)

  • Anyone from Scotland yet?

  • @MrPhatSlim Nope. :) It would be great if you could fill that void! :D

  • @OmniPictures Great ill get on it straight away, just waiting on my camera arriving today or tomorrow. :)

  • I didn't see Texas (I don't think) so I added a video response!

  • Indeed the backdrop to this video is gorgeous! Wherever it is, that's where I'd like to be. ^_^

  • I don't know when but I'll probably make one, it seems interesting~

  • Great idea. Just recorded mine

  • Cool :D I am gonna post one!

  • Nice idea! From Finland anyone yet? :>

  • @SmileyMeenie Nope, not yet! :D

  • @OmniPictures Then i should hurry : D

  • just put a vid response!!!! good luck!

  • So in the end, do you want people from non-english-speaking countries or not ? I'm French and I can participate if you want. =)

  • @BritishItalian

Yep, people from non-English speaking countries are most welcome. =) We're always hoping for more people to take part, so please do! ^^]

  • Have you got an Australian/ Tasmanian one yet? =D

  • You're from Keswick? I was in Keswick last night at the theatre for the Northanger Abbey show. I live in Haverigg, if you know where that is? (Also in Cumbria) I can't submit Cumbrian now! lol. :)

  • @bearbearbethany :D OMG, a fellow Cumbrian! Haverigg eh? That's quite a way from Keswick. :) I hope you enjoyed the show at that most awesome theatre ;)

Also, I'd love it if you submitted a video! x) I was just doing an example in this vid, remember (and my accent isn't actually that Cumbrian, imo) :P and besides, it doesn't matter how many people I get for one region! :)

  • heollo, I', from Washington state, have you any from there? and are you still accepting entries?

  • @AustinaCronk Nope, I don't think we've had any from Washington. It would be great to have one, though! :D

And yes, it's still open. :)

  • I'd love to do this, but how long is it going on? Did it end already?

Also, it would have been perfect to add "Water" to the little paragraph to read. It would give me an excuse to show my internet friends how I say it differently than them. :D

  • @lilugo77 Don't worry, it's still on. :) There will be a notification on this video when it's ended - but that'll be a while yet.

Yes, water would be quite an interesting word to have put in :D feel free to say it anytime in your video, though! :D

  • @OmniPictures That's great! I'll get working on a video pretty soon. :D

  • I might participate as well!

Do you need a Romanian accent?

  • Of course! :D Accents from different countries are most welcome! :)

  • Yeah, I sent mine in, lol.
