flourish, in by removing the obstacles the that prevent it. As far as "cultural colonozation" you said it yourself,(to paraphrase) repressive regimes seek to limit outside influence. Why? Obvious answer. When offered a Pepsi or a foul concoction produced by locals to foster national idenity or buttress an ailing industry what choice would you make? Everone seeks a better life the U.S. offers that.
'foul concoction produced by locals' You're making a judgement call there (probably from a 'western' culture), and seem to be endorsing Pepsi. Not all cultures wish to drink Pepsi, especialy when it is seen to be linked to a 'hostile foreign' superpower... The reason 'foul concoctions' flourish in the first place is because local taste does not nesscesarily co-incide with US taste...
There in lies my point "linked to a hostile superpower" Regimes that deny the populus a choice promote what THEY(for whatever reason) want as opposed to what individuals want. If you have no choice you will enjoy whatever is available. "Aquiring a taste" is euphemism for
learning to tolerate. America is a hodge podge
of foods that come from across the globe. Hagas certainly hasn't caught on here but tacos have. Why? Choices. Incidently my drink of choice is Crown Royal(not royal crown)
into it. Starting at the local level there is much that can be done to promote your candidate and your agenda. extreme capitalism attacks the core values Americanism strive to keep alive. As for the quote that states that "American institutions are the best yet devised by men to secure life, dignity, etc"...this attacks other more complex, rich cultures worldwide and may be one of the many causes of anti-Americanism worldwide. (this outlook of other cultures as inferior cannot be seen as positive) . Honestly, can you say Americanism is the best way of life? Few would say so.
not if we keep to the libertarian ideals od the forefathers. American libertarian freedom is extends untill the fist reachs the face. one of our founders said somthing like that.
Americanism, to put it simply, is a kind of very potent capitalism represented by the united state. it is the main motor of globalization and basis of the post war political and economic world order
Also there corporate entities have spent a large amount of money over the last 100 years or so, doing product placement in all sorts of 'American' media , specificaly to 'place' themselves in the thoughts of potential customers as being the acme of 'America'/Americana.
People seem to collect antique Coke products for example...
The "Americanism" you speak of is also destroying culture here in the USA. To us, we see it as a version of internationalism and not Americanism. Because, to us, they do not represent this country, the USA, at all. These companies have no care for us either. Not any more than they do in any other country around the world. It isn't Americanism when they're "colonizing" the United States too.
Corporate entities seem to go out of their way to sponser things like the US olympic teams, motor racing, football etc.
When your national teams (effectively ambassadors for your country), or individuals from those teams, are sponsered by these huge 'American' corporations...
Well you can see how that can be confusing to others, no?

You are 100% correct in that you can't enforce
democracy. You can only give it the chance to
flourish, in by removing the obstacles the that prevent it. As far as "cultural colonozation" you said it yourself,(to paraphrase) repressive regimes seek to limit outside influence. Why? A simplistic and defeatist attitude my friend
It all depends on the effort you choose to put
into it. Starting at the local level there is much that can be done to promote your candidate and your agenda. I don't seem to have made that quote?
I agree that Americanism is not nescesarily the best way of life for everyone. It seems to suit some just fine though.
Does freedom of choice within a capitalist framework include the freedom to opress others? Aparently it does.
