The demands of lobbyists and other special interest groups which support the two major political parties leads to a system where substantial change takes a back seat to those same vested wealthy interests which have high stakes in the decisions U.S. politicians make. Even if Obama was the man we had hoped for, and he is not, significant changes in both foreign and domestic policy would be difficult to achieve with so many whores in Congress.
Oh please. Ending Bush's torture policy = continuing to shred the Constitution? Really? Glenn Greenwald, shame on you for smearing the president. G0bama 2012!!
@ReElectBarack0bama Ending torture as a policy doesn't mean he is abiding by the Constitution. How is he smearing the president? Do you think using facts against people equals smearing?
@thinkahol So now the U.S. Constitution applies to foreign countries (Afghanistan)? Why are you defending a terrorist who does not follow the laws of war??
Are you seriously arguing that it's okay for the U.S. military to torture people and put people in cages without proof as long as it does it on U.S. bases overseas? Are you seriously arguing that the U.S. military isn't constrained by the constitution? You might want to read the constitution sometime, it protects "persons" not just "citizens."
Are you also seriously assuming that anyone that the executive branch declares a terrorist is one? Did you follow what happened when Guantanamo detainees got habeas? About 2/3 have been released, not after a trial, but after the military failed to provide any evidence of any kind whatsoever at their habeas hearing. I'm glad you have so much confidence in your supreme leader that you're okay with him ordering the murder of whoever he wants without having to show any evidence in a court of law.
@ReElectBarack0bama Read Obama's Nobel Prize acceptance speech-he gives the game away about his militarism and his bank bailout shows his Goldman Sachs corruption. Giving Obama the Nobel Peace Prize was an abomination-what is wrong with those idiots in Oslo?
I love Glenn Greenwald. I could listen to him for hours. He's brilliant, and the most articulate person I think I've ever heard. Thanks so much for the great video of this important speech.
@SmolderingRuin I really agree. Greenwald is one of the most important, accurate, honest and trenchant writers active today. His articles and books should be on everyone's "must read" lists.

@chi1088 The Constitution forbids "cruel and unusual punishment," so yes, it does.

@RPenta If I'm not mistaken, they also did not vote to give America the Olympics despite our peacemaker. president's appeal. What fools.
