God she's beautiful! I don't know what Henry was on about. Although I guess the portraits were painted to make the ladies look pretty and not be actual fact
Anne is by far one of the top 5 queens of England for me (though she was never coronated). She put up with Henry's bullshit, being treated like crap by her father and brother, made a mockery of by the English court, and yet she still ended up being the luckiest out of all 6 of his wives! Goes to show that all you need is to be yourself and you'll come out on top... and with your head still attached.
That Herry called Anne of Cleves a Flanders Mare was just a gossip and is untrue.
Her look was simple not atractive enough to turn him on so that they would have intercourse. Also because she wan´t fascinated from him either. just saying
its real useful to me that you put these on here, I'm writing a series of books called the tudor diaries, it goes through all of Henry wives, writing in a journal, than his children, and eventually him, beautiful song too
She looked like the prettiest one in the portraits...interesting to hear Henry did not agree, so did the man just have an arkward taste, or did Hohlbein paint the picture prettier ;)
i never thought much of anna of cleves before now. i always felt sorry for henry, who was forced to marry an ugly chick. however now i have seen this i see things differently. i believe that she might not have been as bad as she was made out to be. i quite like her now. after all if she was a bitch she would have kicked up a stink but instead she man things easy for henry and england.....god bless Anna of cleves
@slimithy12 thats as funny as awt 'forced to marry an ugly chick' ha ha you crack me up man and just imagine licking the baldy man in the canoe if she hasn't had a bath for god knows how long
judging by her pictures, I think she was pretty, too. From what I've read, back then it was more attractive to have small breasts rather than large - I can only imagine how repulsive large breasts were to them. Good news for medieval men tho, generally women had much smaller chests then :)
I think large breasts were a sign of slovenliness in both behavior and other matters. The whole idea behind the corsets so highly endorsed centuries back was to create a very self-contained, reserved image of young woman, thereby making them appear as eligible candidates for marriage, especially to nobleman of a higher rank.
Anne did not insult the Henry the King while he was disguised as a fat man in robes. He brought her a gift and she accepted politely, although timidly and inattentively. She was watching a game going on from below her window. Very nice slideshow! 5 stars! =)

That Henry called Anne of Cleve a Flanders Mare is just a Gossip and is untrue.
She was for him simple not attractive enough to have later intercourse.
And also Anne wasn´t fascinated from him.
But that she got such a Titel ( Sister) means that they had´nt a bad relationship after all.

Hans Holbein did not do any justice to any of Henry the eights wives. He did not capture their real beauty.

I'm imagining that was Anne Cleves, herself singing that song.
It was great too!
