i have a vfc m4 with self shiming gears, but i finished this and just put the gears in the box... nothing else, put it together, and it makes a really high pitched noise when turning... any suggestions?

I have a hard time shimming one of my gearboxes. The gears doesnt grind into each other, but when i hold the two shells together and flick the gears, there is a grinding-sound i can't get rid of. Start over again with the shimming, or can the gears be worn too much? Doesnt seem like it.

@VolvoJoakim Nevermind, i started from scratch with the bevel gear, and got it right. Just fix semi, only shoots fullauto and safe..

the reason you shim from the bevel is because or else the pinion gear wont be correctly adjusted to the bevel that is why shimming from the bevel is superior

@HaloTheRipper that i understand. what i mean in the video is that i start with the spur, then the sector, then the bevel. i then adjust the spur and sector if i need to so that the bevel is aligned properly. more often than not in stock guns the shimming is pretty tight and doing it in that order is just fine.

i dont understand what u mean about shimming the top. the botom was easy to understand but why did you shim the top like that?

@Roygomez11 this is really basic mechanical theory. less movement means fewer weak spots. shimming the top of the gear, when needed, will help reduce axial movement.

Maybe u can help me. I just installed a m100 spring in my DBoys SCAR and my gun shoots fine, except it is making a higher pitched noise than usual. I dont think its the motor height, could it be the shimming???

Are version 2/3 gears and pistons compatible with a version 7 gearbox?

@TacOpsAirsoft from my experience they are compatible. others might say differently.

@TacOpsAirsoft CYMA/Echo1, G&P, and TM v7 use a specific v7 spur gear, but Kart, CA, and G&G use standard v2 spurs.

If you shim the Bevel gear to the motor's pinon gear you can lengthen the life of the pinon gear and you get better energy transfer.

should always put the case back on with the screws and see how tight it is.

@86005537 i have actually found that most gearboxes will push down a certain amount on the gear. once you learn how much that is about, you can approximate for it and check when the shimming is finalized.

basically in any shim job, don't leave out the pinion gear, keep in mind that it's also a gear that needs to be considered when shimming.

Hi, I like the what you've done. I don't know if it will be obvious to other audience members but may I add when observing how far the bevel is raised by the pinion to check and adjust the motor height to make sure there is enough contact between pinion and bevel.

last note: don't shim when you're tired as heck and/or in a bad mood. learned that the hard way.
