Was it because of John JUnior's death that Mr. Edwards' life just fell apart? Then why didn't he just uproot his family back to Walnut Grove with his friends?
I love it when Mr. Edward's comes in singing "Old Dan Tucker" and Laura sings with him. I remember singing that song in Kindergarten! I love that song. it brings back memories of my childhood years.
This is so real in the life of an alcoholic. People need to wake up and realize the dangers of alcohol and stop being sucked in by the news and media's idea of what's "normal" to drink daily.... it's not normal or healthy to even begin to think that having a drink every day is something we need or should even want to do. Alcohol's bite afterwards is like a serpent, just like the Bible says.
It is the same famiily, only different actors, the lady who played Grace (Bonnie Bartlett) would not have part in depicting Grace leaving Edwards... so they recast her.
@homemaker1987 really? I always wondered why they recast Grace, good for her for standing her ground, although it was sad the way they wrote the character of Mr. Edwards.
I don't think so, not in a town like WNG, perhaps in the larger cities. Taxes were a lot different back then, income tax didn't really start until 1913 (I think.)
There were taxes called excises since the early days of the US, the first of any real significance in 1794 on liquor. Later, these taxes evolved as did the economy. One usually found them on purchases of luxery items, tobacco, porcelain, metals, and imported goods. The likely didn't charge tax on the medicine, because it was billed as medicinal not luxurious.
got choked up when laura and edwards were singing!

I wonder why Laura kept calling Isiah "mr, Edwards"she's known him along time and is so special to her you'd think she call him isiah.

@homemaker1987 Interesting about Bonnie Bartlett. I just assumed it was because she was a regular on another show and couldn't reprise the role.

Was there sales tax at that time? Oleson's store didn't charge Edwards tax. But they did charge tax in the episode called Growing Pains.

I'm unclear on that too... It most of the LHOP epis I never see them charge tax, just the actual amount.
