Pete Fountain had such beautiful phrasing of the melodic line. He knew and still does know how to put that New Orleans swing into it, unique. I saw him live back in 1970 or so. When he was still young and wearing a tuepe. One of the greatest jazz players in the world.
I never heard Pete Fountain playing live, but I did hear the later(?) clarinetist on the Welk show, Peanuts Hucko, when he came to England for the Glenn Miller reunion concerts and during his trips, played at some of the London jazz clubs.
this is one of the most interesting postings of pete fountain--- he is playing the selmer bt model-- he had the really nice sound with that horn-- then he changed to leblanc-- which was ok.. but this is what pete sounded like --in his prime thanks any more ???
very good of you to find this and post it for all of us----good to hear pete and the rythm section----more like this would be appreciated thanks franco
It doesn't get any better. Great footage. You could always depend on Welk to present one or two jazz numbers each week..even into the 1970's and especially in person. Thanks and keep 'em coming.
heard pete live in Medford Or about 10 years ago. A high light of my life. I always get a stupid goof grin every time I hear that sound.
