  • This is how I always park it - rotf. I can imagine if teenagers could afford one that would happen a lot outside news agents.

  • If it's down on the left side, It's easier to turn the bars to the right stop, apply the front brake, and use the front axel as a pivot, and visa versa. Your doing it the hard way.

Also, if you put it in gear, it won't roll on you. Dennis

  • Dropping the bike is embarrassing? Not as embarrassing as using a car tire.

  • @jessevanderweide hah, seriously.

  • this is y i love my costume made trike :) it never falls over

  • The Harley-Davidson killer

  • When its down just get the 12 gauge out and pepper the piece of crap, a scrap man will clear up the junk that's left over, or save cartridges just give the vile looking piece of junk to the scrap man

  • ooohhh that chrome

  • wow it looks damn nice!

  • Yeah, It is fine I did it many times , nothing happen with the bike , nothing m, trust me.

  • Laid down the gold wing is more upright then my R6 going around a corner... still must be a bitch picking one up.

  • couch on wheels...

  • the bike is not my type, I like super sport bike, but the bike is not ugly, it was made for its own style, you should know that or you are just jealous.

  • @romalliv95r

I was not a fan of the Gold Wing until I rode one at age 20. it is hands down the most fun and comfy bike for nice rides. I currently own a GW1500 and a CBR 1000RR.

25 plus years of riding I still love my sportbikes. (even rode daytona to get my race license) I think a real rider admires or respects all aspects or types of bikes.

  • @Roaddog900RR Same here, I began riding GLs at 19 years old, had a collection of them. (82, 84, 86, and 88, plus a few Ventures and two CBXs) Still have the CBX, its riding position is preferable, sitting "upright" on Wings, isolated from the wind, is quite different. The Wings are hefty, but I have to agree, as a sport rider, they are a blast to tour on. I had fun years ago racing the 900RR, flew over a RR crossing and caught major air, an e-ticket cycle.

  • Should be in gear and do it facing the bike. Lean into it. I was taught this way. At about half way let it rest on you then finish lifting it. Cake walk.

  • @Roaddog900RR Yeah, good luck doing that with an 850 lb Goldwing. That's the point behind this video.

  • @gsmac1969

I have, several times. I was taught this method as a member of GWRRA CH R 15 years ago, and have taught it many times to GW riders. I tried the way in the video and I feel more control facing the bike. essentially lean in, lift, let it rest on you if you need a second (best if you do imo) then continue. never the less, thanks for posting the video.

  • @gsmac1969 I have a 900lbs(dry weight) Cruiser, no landing gear. I've had to pick it up twice. I just grab the handle bars and up she goes. But I'm a big guy. For smaller people yes the way demonstrated in this video is the easiest way.

  • @Roaddog900RR I worked on these babies back in the 80s, from the GL1000-GL1500s(89). For the later GLs, put her in gear or pull up on the reversing lever if not on a level surface. And YES, better to be facing the motorcycle, you can still use your legs. Biggest key is to turn the handlebars inward (toward the raising side), no worries.

  • @Roaddog900RR Corect on the "in gear", but not the "facing the bike" part... I do the same demo with the other big bike (BMW K1200-LT)

  • This is why you dont get a stupid ass BIG bike.

  • I think he should have said, prior to lifting make sure you put it in GEAR!!!'

  • @vtxmn1300 Great, as long as it isn't already laying on the gear shift.

  • GOOD VIDEO

  • L'on

  • ugly ass bike

  • 1. Don't tip it over. 2. pick it up when your adrenalin is high from being pissed you let it fall over.

  • Fer a much as it costs, ya would think it would pick itself up!!!!

  • @deathtrap68next version maybe? :P

  • 3:46 "I will call you" lolzzz

  • Why they call it "a bike"? XD

  • @dukacosmic I know, it's like a Rv in motorcycle world

  • That's a lot of chrome to worry about scratching :P Tbh I have never lifted a bike this way before, I get abit annoyed at myself and just angrily yank it up. I have a CBX750F so it's no where near as heavy as a goldwing. Still heavy for me though, only a little chap.

  • @ALKVID smaller bikes one hand on handle bar the other under the tank. lifting while holding both grips (I have done it in anger when younger) can throw your back out.

  • Nice Bike

  • When I put in gear and turn the steering wheel in the right, you can be woken up more easily.

  • Its not a bike, It's a car! XD

  • That bike is incredible.

  • hayyyyy no la tiren

  • my god you need a crane to do that

  • @DesmosediciAlice that looks like a good way of doing it! I just learn something new. I layed my road king over one day when riding it on a beer buzz..LOL good thing I was riding real slow when I layed it over..Yet all 760 lb of the bike I picked up by using grabbing the handle bars only ( It took me a few trys but damn it.. I was detemined to get it up....ha...ha

  • leave that shit on the floor!

  • 2 wheeled car.

  • Is it me, or are those bikes damn ugly?

  • @martijn555 It's definitely you.

  • @gsmac1969 Sorry then:D

  • @gsmac1969 no those things arent bikes its a sofa on wheels there disgusting to look at sorry if i offend you but a bike shouldnt have a radio or air conditioning lmao

  • @gsmac1969 It's definitely the bike, don't you care about the sport style of a Triumph Speed Triple for example?

  • @martijn555

better an ugly honda than a fugly hardly

  • @martijn555 bikes???where do you see the bikes?

  • @martijn555 yes they are

  • @martijn555 it's not you ;)

  • @martijn555 yellow certainly doesn't help.

  • This video was great. made me feell like i was part of the group watching. I don't even ride. Damm

  • And turn off the ignition after you get reverse engaged.

  • I can pick up my fully loaded 2011 pretty easy with hitch rack, so the running weight of a goldwing is 890-910 lbs, add 40-60 pounds of gear, hitch and rack with cargo box is about 80. So call it 1000 even.

Now, if the bike is neutral, simply engage the reverse. If the bike is in gear problem is already solved. Again, if the bike is in neutral, turn on the ignition and just engage the reverse. This will lock up the transmission and stop the bike from rolling.

  • First time I dropped a bike was my aunts aspencade. I was backing up already had it in 1st gear and when it started going over because the driveway is at an angle and the top half got too much momentum. The aspencade may be lighter but I walked it all the way to the ground with my left leg then swung my right over and pushed with my hip against the seat and held the front brake and it came right up all without letting out the clutch. but this bike does look alot heavier then the aspencade

  • Personally I just keep mine on the wheels... ;)) Good tips, thank you for the demo. ;)

  • you have to put first gear. that is the mistake.

  • @abscisa1 Yeah I don't understand why he didn't do that either...

  • Why am I watching this, why is it a recommended video, why did I click like? Why am I asking any of you?

  • Grade A+++++ instructor! Way to let people learn on your bike

  • goldwing looks like a small car...

  • @ThatDiggityGuy

yeah, the motor is as large as most small cars. 1.8 liters!!

  • Great lesson. I think it could be used for any bike. Thanks

  • Awesome, a bike that weighs a much as a small car,ok for a freeway cruise i suppose,or if you need a bike that can tow a caravan, but i prefer more agile sports bikes myself.Always found it funny watching bikers struggling with those though, got to say you made it look a whole lot easier than many bigger guys .

  • i understand this bike is extremely heavy, but what about a sport bike at low speeds when the tip of your feet are barely touching the ground... :( i bought an r1, but even with my boots on i cant have both feet flat, so when i steer at low speeds i dont lean it, its epic slow to turn around and i usually have to get off to reverse it. but when it gets going... = )

  • @jipi0001 I only ever put one foot down. Anyone can ride a bike fast, it's the low speed skills that separate the men from the boys. Head up, turned 90 degrees. Countersteer while gassing it and using the clutch to manipulate speed. Hold the rear brake if you have to. Low speed stuff is easy as a pie on a light little bike like an R1!

  • Respond to this video... When i said countersteer I meant counterweight. If you're turning left sit on the right side of the bike, and don't be afraid to lean. The gas will pick the bike right up if you lean a little too far.

  • Luckily I watched this video before I bought my GL1800. A week after I bought it I was coming into my driveway very slowly and turned the wheel to sharp and it went over and nothing I could do would stop it. Using this lesson I easily put it back up.

  • AND JESUS FAKED HIS OWN DEATH SO HE WOULDNT HAVE TO RIDE WITH THE OTHER 12 FAGS EVERY LAST ONE OF YOU, EVEN JESUS HATES YOUR LIEING GAY ASS

  • @12createaccount

Yea, I dont know which "Jesus" youve read about...but they didnt have GoldWings in the olden days.

Good stuff by the original vid BTW...

  • Might as well; by a car the size of the thing

  • tbh- I wouldnt pick it up, its not worth it.....lol

  • he forgot to put it in gear so it wont roll

  • would be useful if I had a goldwing

  • Great video: good technique to lift up a heavy motorcycle! Will use it on a BMW K1200lt

  • GRAB THE BRAKE! LOL YOU MUST OF NEVER RODE BEFORE! NO BRAKE ON THE LEFT SIDE. DUMB ASS

  • HEY CAN I PARK MY BIKE HERE?

    *drop*

  • Does anyone know who this guy is? I would like to me in one of his classes.

  • Very informative! Thanks!

  • That isn't a bike, it's just a car with 2 wheels.

  • @hetisover said the weeny towtruck davison wanna be!

  • I've seen a fairly small woman pick up a GW1800. It is all technique over strength. Used a plastic banded wristwatch to hold the front brake to keep bike from rolling. She popped it right up. There are 2 types of people: those who have dropped their bike and those who will. Seen people lay the bike over on its side to change tires. Real quick.

  • I dropped a Goldwing 20 years ago while detailing it, all the guys at the dealership thought it was hilarious. No damage on the bike whatsoever because I basically guided it down so it didn't hit hard. Picking it up I needed some help though!

  • Hey can I do this using the deadlift technique?

  • This is great but why didn't he just put it in gear to keep it from rolling?

  • @Hank061978 Pretty tough to shift it into gear when the bike is laying on its left side (i.e. laying on the shifter). Good idea if the bike falls on its right side, but not doable if its on the left side.

  • @gsmac1969 oh yeah, there is that....That'll teach me to comment on youtube video's 1st thing in the morning.

  • @gsmac1969 True but it's not impossible. It could be done by foot & even by hand. It just needs a bit of effort. As you can see in this position the gear is not impossible to reach so it's ok.

Otherwise for tall people they just could grap the front brake by their hand & that's it.

But i prefer the gear blocking. It's safer & more secure.

  • @Hank061978 Because he's showing how to pick it up, and showed how to solve the problem of a rolling bike if you didn't happen to have it in gear when it fell over

  • @Hank061978 because the gear shift is on the side where he dropped it. Most of us park our bikes with the gear in neutral anyway. Thus the rolling. The brake lever is on the right side so grabbing it would not be possible the way he uses his legs to bring it up. Same for the rear brake if you were wondering. It'll roll a little but by that time you'll have figured how to straighten it up. I think he did say he was on a slight incline anyway. BTW Goldwing is about 800+ lbs of bike.

  • Those fuckers are HEAVY!!!!!!!!

  • Good job incredible!!

  • Love the way he drops his shiny, chromed and polished bike on the ground like he doesn't give a fuck.

  • the man is droppin a lesson.respect!

  • i cant stand the new gl,s

  • @shzze No, I agree. They look like shit. They look like a half baked version of a Victory and a Beemer, mixed together. What a disappointment to a lot of people who were expecting big and new innovations...."If it aint broke , don't fix it "

  • 11 people cant pick up a 50 cc dirt bike

  • that "bike" has less lean angle when its lying on the ground than mine when im cornering fast :D

  • Well you could put it in gear or bungee cord the front brake on ,,,that would hold it ...Good info,, thanks for posting...

  • I wish I can have a goldwing as my first bike

  • @MrKiloppolik Really...a Goldwing is not a good first bike. They are very heavy and powerful. You need to learn on a smaller, lighter, less powerful bike first.

  • @gsmac1969 Then what kind of bike do you recommend? I like big bikes (suzuki boulevard, honda shadow, kawasaki vulcan, some Harleys....), but by what you say, I guess they aren't good options to start riding... right? Nice vid and thanks in advance :D

  • @gsmac1969 like a Hardley Ridingson!

  • @gsmac1969 I disagree. There are several reasons Goldwing's are good for beginners: 1. Long wheel base and trail make it very stable, 2. The engine's torque curve is relatively flat, 3. Upright seating position provides better visibility, 4. Not much to damage when laid down, and 5. The mass makes control inputs respond slower. My first bike was a 1982 Goldwing (1200cc).

  • @auxpowerunit you have valid points, however, the mass of a goldwing makes it much less maneuverable and very easy to drop when you arent moving if your not careful. i have been riding for 4 years and i still wouldn't be comfortable with a bike that size. i'm not saying you can't start on a goldwing but it is a good idea to get used to riding a motorcycle on the road on a bike that's easier to maneuver until you get familiar with riding.

  • @gsmac1969

sorry this is BS, a lighter bike yes, a less powerful bike however will suck because it gets to the point where you don't have enough power, I learned on a 750cc shadow when i was 15, after i got it out of the ally and after about a month....just didn't have any balls.

    Especially on the highway.

  • @MrKiloppolik easy go buy a couch

  • @MrKiloppolik No ... NOT for your 1st bike. Think about it Hero. Start small, work up.

  • @MrKiloppolik why dont you buy a tomahawk? or get at least a hayabuza... ►{sarcasm off }

  • @MrKiloppolik I've just lost a little faith in humanity.

  • on the left side I'd put 5th gear and not grab the clutch so that the bike doesn't move

excuse my bad engllish I'm french

  • grab your brake !

-> you mean the clutch ? sounds pretty useful ..

  • やっちまったな

  • you might wanna put it in gear so it wont slide trough ! !

  • ça marche aussi avec une electra glide ultra classic?

  • It cant even fall haha, itll stand by itself

  • To be honest, till 2:00 i was waiting for him to push a button, surprise surprise, the Gold Wing is upright again.

  • I don't care for the massive Goldwings and those bagger bikes. But thats one gorgeous motorcycle in the video. I don't know if I would be placing that expensive bike on the ground for individuals to be practicing picking it up.

  • why would you get that bike... why not a van instead. At least you drop a van.

  • This is genius. Great info

And for the guy saying pull on the opposite side handle bar. Wait until you rip the grip off. That will sorta suck I bet

  • wow.

  • "now you can change your car tyre:P "

  • if you put it in gear it wont roll backwards.

  • 3:05 person: grab your brake (second time)

    dude lifting: no

    person: o ok

    lol

  • @b33p There is no brake on the left hand grip. (I think that's why the guy lifting the bike ignored camcorder guy the first time, hoping he would figure that out on his own.)

  • @jlillie2 I know that, I have been riding for years! I mean the guy holding the camera either just didn't know that or was being stupid and the guy with the bike got fed up.

  • Nice informative video. I dropped my Yamaha Venture Royale on it's side at about no mph inside a little covered bridge down south of nowhere and my brother and I had to get it up. It took everything we had. It was in a way that we couldn't use this method.

  • I have meant no disrespect, but would personally feel like a tit lifting it up that way anywhere. I have the same bike ! I know how much it weighs and its a hell of allot easier to pull up from the other side. Ive had my Goldwing since 2005 (since 26) and "800lbs" is not physically lifted at any point. Simple physics means that you will be pulling an object on a pivot & the equilvalent of 250 lbs. Your way can risk you dropping it on the other side especially when you're not even facing it.

  • @Princebenidorm You can hurt you back realy bad if you do what you say wrong.

  • @Kottsson And Hulk Hogans' version is safer ? He could slip on fuel spillage and crack his head. Even worse drop the bike on its other side !! :) Rule of thumb DONT DROP THE BEAST !!

  • @Princebenidorm Yeah, Sure he can. Buut... Like an enduro laying on the ground that is almost impossible. So, Their is different techniques(I can't spell that) for different types of bikes/vehicles.

  • @Princebenidorm Yeah, OK, you come on over and try doing that with my loaded 1000 lb Goldwing, I'll set up my video camera so we can all have a good laugh at your expense!

  • @gsmac1969 OK OK. I have the same bike but maybe the factor is I'm 33 and don't find it to be such a big deal !

  • @gsmac1969 Would you really let him destroy ur bike? for a laugh?

  • @Princebenidorm

Ur an idiot. Even for an R6 or something this is the PROPER way to pick a bike up

  • @Princebenidorm The guy who owns the bike knows what he's doing... try to pick up a Gold Wing any other way and you'll end up in hospital! Unless you're built like Arnold...

  • @Princebenidorm ....yeah, if you're built like an gorilla

  • @Princebenidorm numb nuts

  • @Princebenidorm Spoken by someone who has just proven they have ZERO experience on lifting bikes.

  • @BikeMeAustin OK feeble pensioners. I'll post a video of me lifting my Goldwing. Christ what's wrong with you guys ?

  • @Princebenidorm What's wrong with "you guys"?? Well probably how rude your comment was on someones video who was just trying to offer some advice/help for others, that might have something to do with it.

  • put it in gear and it wont roll on you.

  • dont they make something that is on your dash to pick it up? Another goldwing accesseroie

  • I love that goldwing, awesome machine.

  • @thebipolarpolarbear You might have to have someone grab and hold the front brake on to keep it rolling down if it was laid down on the left side. If it was on the right side, you could just shift it into gear and lift it yourself.

  • Put it in first gear when u lift it.

  • @Triple88a No way to kick it into 1st gear if it dropped as in the vid unless it's already in 1st when dropped

  • @systom111 You can kick it, the shifter is down there however its not far enough to where u cant get to it.

  • przecież to wiadome już jako dziecko stosowałem tą metode.

  • thank you for help

  • I decked my 'Wing about 18months ago while going into a layby on Exmoor, I was on my own, and YES it was that easy to get back up on my own!

  • good vid

  • This is great video!

My has tipped over once, and I have to dispatch my two kids, and 3 of us got it up...

After watching this, I think I can handle it myself next time...!!!

  • I love the dude at 1:04 haha

  • so this is cruiser school?

  • Wow ive dropped my goldwing three times once right after pulling out into a busy street once right after i got off of it and forgot to put down the kickstand and once off the back of a uhaul truck... And all three times i panicked and picked it up by the handlebars which was NOT easy except for the first time wgen i was so full of adrenaline i lifted it like a feather... Thankyou for this video and demonstration! Its awesome!

  • That's not a bike. It's a car cut in half with a motor and transmission. Why not just get a convertible to tool around in and be old? A lot more safe, a lot less to insure, can carry more stuff and safe in all weather... Don't kid yourself on the "freedom of the open road". A 1,000lb. bike is about as fun as a brinks truck on two wheels.

  • @F0ckUtoob "Don't kid yourself on the "freedom of the open road". A 1,000lb. bike is about as fun as a brinks truck on two wheels." Hope you don't mind if I use that quote the next time one of the inbred hicks down here in Georgia hound me about my GSXR.

  • i don't think it wil work well. if you push to hard the bike will fall on the other side.

  • i got a hold of a 1975 goldwing and i need to repair it how would i go about that? and ill be posting videos of me reparing if any of you guys want to see how its going

  • Before picking it up, put it in gear and then when you pick it up, it won't move around on you.

  • @Easyliving2009 great idea IF you could get to the shift lever ( can't if itsdown on the left)

  • @Easyliving2009 great idea IF you could get to the shift lever ( can't if its down on the left)

  • nice bike.

  • what a beautiful bike : ]

  • wow i would never drop my bike like that even i was a billionare

  • put it in gear to stop it from rolling
