The design on the label was derived from a central African creature named a heartybeast. It's a unknown creature but that was Heather's unique inspiration.
There were 200 other applicants working on similar depictions for the competition at her Uni. Heather "captured the Zeitgeist."
Cool innit? There was a competition at her University in Dundee and she rather unexpectedly surpassed all others and won. The website and pictures were organised by her as well.
It's sheep heads with human bodies, weird yes, but it's so it appeals to younger people as it's against "conformity" as they say.
Thanks for nice comment. When I said "younger" I meant people in their early 20s. It's not really a 'matured' alcohol, it's aimed at people who enjoy the simple pleasures of life. Nothing advanced about it at all.
If you look at the end of the label it says "illustrated by Heather Brennan."
Another great review. I think you and Michael Lamb (Beverage Review) do the best beer reviews on YouTube. I've been wanting to try some Brewdog stouts aged in scotch barrels, but they're real expensive. Have you tried any of them? If so, what do you think?
Thanks for the comment. I have tried the BrewDog Paradox beers, and they are all pretty spectacular, although of course they are heavily influenced by the style of whisky that was in teh cask before the stout. Pick your favourite whisky style, and you'll be in heaven!
It's retty new, but I'd be srurised if it didn't make it to the US soon. I know that James from the brewery is on the west coast at teh moment. They have a pretty good blog on their website too.
Haha. Did someone do one too many tasting notes today?
Anyway, Brewdog really is a superb brewery, and I would imagine the closest British brewery in style to the many American craft beer producers.
This is my first time commenting on your blog, Zak, but I just wanted to say I've every watched single video and you're doing an awesome job. Best thing on Youtube.
Haha, thanks for the kind comment (and the gentle criticism!). I'm not sure what happened to those responses, but I posted them early one morning, rather than late one nght, so I can't even pretend that it was the beer talking! I really need to get some sort of spellchecker plug-in, I guess (or just slow down a bit on the typing)
Love Zeitgeist. You said you enjoyed it in the clip but your face and voice have no emotion.

@biggatorbite yeah, I was a little surly. Maybe I was in work mode - I had a bunch of beers to get through that evening.

Hey! My sister designed that label btw!!!

Good on ya Sis'!

Hi JS, your sister has done a great job - but I guess she knew that as she won the competition!
I'm sure that when you say "younger" people, you mean people over the legal alcohol purchasing age, right?!

I'm her younger brother, Peter : ))

Sounds like the kind of beer I would like. Where is this beer made?
What's with the white noise in your video (ouch!)
Chad9976 2 years ago
BrewDog is based Fraserburgh (a town in Aberdeenshire). Zeitgeist is a german expression meaning 'spirit of the times'.
I've had a taste of it long before the lager was released, knew it would be a hit straight away.
JS1200RULES 2 years ago
Hi Chad,
the noise is the crappy sound on the digital camera I use. It's annoying, I know, but I hope it doesn't spoil it too much for you.
And JS seems pretty well qualified to answer your other point!

Yeah i thought zeitgeist was very nice, the fact that it's a 'black' lager swayed it for me.....i knew i'd like it and i did.
That must be a St Peters Cream Stout i can see there...

It is a St P Cream Stout, and a very good stout it is too.

Lovely. I need to find more dark lager styles. The overwhelming mass of awful lighter-coloured lagers to sift through can be depressing at times.

Yhis is a real trest - really packed full of flavour. I'm pretty sure that it will be in he USA soon, although I don't kow about Canada

Is this beer a British Craft beer if you will? Is that a St.Peter's in the back I see? lol. Cheers.

Yes, BrewDog are a great new(ish) Scottish brewery. Their beers are all pretty damn fine.

don't spill the beer on the laptop, lol.
Good review

Thanks.
If you have a look at the video for Gales Prize Old Ale, you can see me accidentally slosh a load of beer onto it. It still works though.
