I was told that oxi-clean is never to be used on food use equipment.
I was curious that there was no mention of dish washing uses on the label. So I did some research and found a few people who called oxiclean and they were told NOT to use oxiclean on anything that will contact food or drink.
I wonder if everyone who uses oxiclean will one day develop some new type of cancer or disease from exposure to oxiclean. I bet if you rinse well you might be fine. Kind of like using bleach..
Hey Craig. I was curious as to how long your CO2 tank will last? I'm not sure if you have answered my question in one of your videos or in the comments somewhere but thought I would ask anyways. I will be diving into kegging soon myself! Can't wait.
I have a question as far as sterilizing the keg can you use a steam cleaner like a shark steam pocket strait steam attachment instead of a sterilizer solution
Question: Instead of using your co2 tank to pressurize the keg when cleaning - can you use an air compressor with the attachments to clean out the lines etc?
I would assume you can air instead of co2 - as long as you can push out the cleaner through the lines right?
@mg0275 Sure, as long as you can control the pressure so it doesn't blast the valves apart and exceed the keg's pressure limit. A small tire pump would work I guess. It would certainly save on CO2.
I've been kegging for years and also use OxiClean for keg cleaning. You will find in time that the quick splash and short exposure time you did will not be sufficient to get rid of beer stone and tougher buildup that develops over time. I do overnight soaks with an Oxiclean solution filled to the top and ensuring both diptubes are filled as well.
Craig, have you ever tried PDW cleaner on your brewing equipment? As you know I am new to the homebrewing, and thought I would give this a try. I may end up going with oxiclean, if the price is better. I found the PDW a tad exspensive.
@threeque Thanks! That is a bag of dry malt extract that is going to be mixed with some liquid malt extract, some grains and hops. It's one of the gifts I got, I'm just adding the grains into the mix.
Great vid Craig...I never used that oxi-clean before...does it leave a residue behind that needs a lot of rinsing or does it rinse away cleanly - easily ?
Tip: To make cleaning easier and faster, I'd try to get a short hose that has both male female fittings so you can attach a sprayer to the "cut off" end you have ....this way you can pressure spray/rinse hopefully more quicker and thoroughly...Cheers!
@CraigTube actually, if you are going to use starsan to sanitise, it isnt necessary to rinse it too much. Because based on what Jamil Z says, starsan removes the residue left behind by those cleaners. So just rinse a1-2 times, then starsan and you should be good
@CraigTube Yeah, Starsan is an acid based sanitizer and it neutralizes the residue left behind by Oxi Clean. As an experiment. put your hand in an oxiclean solution and then dip it in starsan. Should come out residue free!
Also, I didnt get to watch the whole thing but I know if you use warm/hot water when rinsing with oxiclean (and maybe any other cleaners similar) you have to use hot water to rinse or you can get like a calcium buildup started that is a PITA to get off...
@JOMalone3113 - Okay, removes it and does what with it? I can believe that starsan does something, but we all know you cannot sanitize a dirty surface, it has to be clean first.
That being said, I find oxyclean easy to rinse away, I've never seen a need to use it for a prolonged soak, but I could see where it would be harder to remove if allowed to soak too long. It always rinses away easily with warm water, just like PBW...
@OPE08 I am not a scientist, but I believe it merely pulls it off the surface and holds it in solution til you dump the starsan out. try the experiment I was talking about above...dipping ur hand in both and see if it pulls it off...worked every time I tried it. The slick film was gone after dipping it into the starsan.

Heard of using caustic soda to clean out kegs but you gotta then riuse it out and put in citric acid to natuise it and then riuse out again to get rid of all traces of it
@MrGregPuckett Craig always uses his own music on his vids. Look up his website and listen to more of it, he's a very accomplished musician and singer. Love his stuff.
You make the best brewing videos on youtube sir. I also really like your videos that have nothing to do with beer where you're just voicing your opinions. I really enjoy your stuff.
@ostmash Im in Utah, and they go used for between 20-30 dollars.I assume it is the same elsewhere. The Co2 tank and regulator is where the cost is.Look at your local beer store for people selling the setup. That is your best bet.If you can find a Co2,regulator,and keg for 100-150,jump at the chance.
can u use bleach to clean it to

I've never kegged, but most compressed air contains oil unless you get it from a dive tank. So make sure your air is clean..

Hi Craig
Be careful using hot water with the cap on the keg, as I've found hot water can stretch/damage the seal on the top of the keg. Hope this helps.
Top video, keep up the good work, love your videos.
