Pretty sweet build Pauly. Thats probably the coolest one yet. Looks like a lot of Geometrical calculations went into putting that one together. You'd better be careful, or lockheed will come after you for copywrite infringement. Lol. Cant wait to see her fly.
Thanks for the comment. Dave powers is a good guy and his F-117 looks pretty cool. I have never built one but sure it flies good. I am just building my interpetation of the F-117 mostly because I like the challenge to come up with a design on my own. Also I've had several viewers request that I make a foamboard F-117. Just like our FF-22, other people have their own designs. I think the funest part of scratchbuilding is to challenge your mind and make a design on your own.
Thanks Beyerii! It is the elmers Foamboard, 3/16. We leave the paper on as it makes a stronger model. A bit heavier, but with the right motor and enough power it is not a problem. I did use the Black foamboard, but we usually tape it to help protect against moisture and also adds a bit of strength. I'm sure you could make the model and not tape it too, but will be more apt to get wet and warped. thanks again.
The tape we use is 2 inches wide. it is just colored packing or sealing tape. its kind of hard to find in stores, i usually order online from Tape Brothers or Amazon. there are links on our Blog too if you can not find it. As for the iron, we usually don't need it when using foamboard. It sticks to the paper on the foamboard pretty good. Sometimes i will use a heat gun to shrink the tape a little if i have wrinkles. Thanks again
Usually I use a Hot Glue gun when working with Foamboard. it seems to work pretty good and is nice a low cost.
As for the FF-117, I have the new one already built, now I'm just waiting for warmer weather. its been super cold here the last few weeks. Actually below the rated temperture range for my spectrum receivers. But hopefully soon we can get out and test it. Thanks again!
You can get the 3M cross weave strapping tape at Target stores and I think Lowes stores carry it too. its a little pricey, but I like it the best for using when you want to make tape hinges or other secure taping. You don't have to use it, you can also use regular strapping tape too. Thanks for thecomment and watching!
Thanks for the comment twanna44.We may give some planes away in the future. Most of the time though, we want to give things away that will be easier to ship since we have freinds and viewers from all parts of the world. Thanks for the input and for watching rcfoamfighters!
Thanks George! I hope you have a good Christmas and all is good for you there in Romania! Haven't heard from you in a little while, I hope you are still happy and Flying at your Cool spot on the hill. Thanks again!
Thanks SEBratt for watching and your support of the new members. We are all hoping to be more active and share more ideas in the coming year. So please stay tuned. I hope the FF-117 flys good too. Thanks again!
Thanks for the comment GRS15720. The CG I still have to test and make sure its accurate. I won't know for sure till I can do the maiden flight. The estimated CG was found by doing glide tests with my two Mock up models I made. I will use what seemed to work on the full size mock up, about 16 inches from the nose. After I get it maidened I can make any, hopefully fine tuning adjustments. Thanks again for watching!
Thanks remotecontrolaholic! I really like the Black tape covering too, it makes it look nice and clean. Hope to fly it soon if the weather would just clear up, LOL. Have a great Christmas!
That thing looks so mean. I love it. And you even have your name on the cockpit. I love how free flowing it is on the inside and the fact that there is no need for carbon. The profile of that thing is just soooo sleek. Glad to see Ken on the team.
Thanks Brando and formally welcome too the team, though we considered you on the team from way back. Really looking forward to your new designs. That plane looks crazy! So does the drawing of the other one you sent. Hope they both work out good for you. Can't wait to see them Fly! I hope you and your family have a great Christmas!
Tony, thanks for watching. The tape goes on pretty easy on the foamboard. The surface is nice and smooth already, so if you take your time and lay it out it goes on pretty good. Thanks again!
Wow looks great Paul as always you two got it down. Can't waite for the maiden looks like it is really going to be sweet in the sky. Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Years to you and Frank and all your family Gregg

Hello RC Foam Fighters,
Please elaborate on the type of foam used to build your F-117.
I think the video says "Elmers Foamboard". Is this 3/16" Elmers (Hunt) "Sturdy Board" foamboard?
If it is, you might consider using Elmers Black on Black (PN 901120 or 901121) to avoid having to color the F-117.
From what I read, this foamboard has a layer of paper glued to its surface. Do you use it with the paper attached or do you remove the paper??
TIA,
Keller Beyer

Thanks RC Foam Fighters for the information about Elmers foamboard.
Please also tell us what type of tape and how wide of tape you use to cover the Elmers foamboard.
Do you also use an iron to help the tape bond? Perhaps an iron doesn't help much because of the paper coating?
Thanks again,
Keller Beyer

Hi Paul,
What type of adhesive do you recommend for use with the Elmer's Foamboard?
I hope the test flights go well, I am looking forward to your plans for the FF-117.
Thanks,
Keller

Hi Paul,
What do you think about spray painting the foam board instead of using colored tape?
Do you thing the wet spray paint would cause the foam board to warp?
If it would not warp, would the paint be enough to protect agains moisture?
Also how much strength does the tape add to the foam board?
Thanks for your help,
Keller
