  • Agreed. Pound for pound Stan was the toughest.

  • In 1981 the only legitimate tough guy the Bruins had remaining on their team was Terry O'Reilly. Al Secord, Stan Jonathan, and Wensink were gone - as was Don Cherry. The Stars took advantage and made a statement.

  • @plymouthgtx1973 I dissagree! I honestly think Stan Jonathan Was the best fighter back then! terry was a tough guy! but i think Jonathan Was just a little better!

  • Fighting needs to be allowed in every sport.

  • @japeda Stars move to Texas and win Stanley Cup BAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHA

  • The Big Bad Bruins. How embarrassing for for Minnesota. Wow Wensink and O'Reilly really pounded their opponents, another 2 wins for The Big Bad Bruins. Wensink must have been crazy and mo one from Minnesota wanted anything to do with him, they were to scared of him. Didn't Minnesota have a real tough guy?

  • i went to this game back in Feb 1981 this game to this date had 365 minutes in of fighting

  • I wish hockey was still like this....

  • I was at that game!!! My first.....My Dad took me......the place went NUT'S When Wensink did that. Those were the day's.

  • @CJOKUSAP does your family know your gay?

  • damn... i dont care if you arent a fighter, some guy comes over and calls out your whole team like that you gotta go over the boards. How are you gonna explain that to your kids? "well you see son, daddy was shitting himself even though he was backed by 10 guys...dont you have homework to do?"

  • The north stars move to texas, the Wild start a franchise in 2000, go 9-1-1 overall vs the Bruins and are 5-0 at the Garden.

    Payback's a bitch, ain't it.

  • @Japeda Whole different team there, pal. Don't get too nutty on us!

  • What a wuss ... going after Wensink when the linesman was on top of him, holding him back from doing further damage. *Rise above it, pal -- you lost*

  • Minny did not load there teams with goons. They only went out and got 1 fighter and that was Jack Carlson.

  • @5inthehole the record actually has been broken by the Senators Flyers brawl about 5 or 6 years ago. It starts with Rob Ray and Donald Brashear fighting towards the end of the game and escalates to an all out brawl with the goalies fighting one another. You can probably find it here on you tube somewhere,Enjoy!

  • O'Reilley was a real bad ass...I remember my father used to get tickets from his job a few times a year and he gave my brother a pair and he went with his gf...During the pregame warmup,O'Reilley took a slap shot which went off the crossbar and hit my brother's date in the face..lol

But O'Reilley came up,genuinely concerned to make sure she'd be alright and he gave my bro a stick...Classy guy.

  • can't take the fuckin Bruins anywhere...

  • @KillaRock881 This was at home.

  • @magich8ball I just meant they were a bunch of lunatics

  • This was the coolest guy...He coached me in my central states peewee hockey and if you didnt hit he yelled at you and made sure you knew he thought you were a bitch. He was a real great guy though

  • instead of Wensink it should say DICK

  • @nohelmetby or complete badass

  • The coolest single tough-guy moment in the history of the NHL

  • He kinda looks like Dale Doback from Step Brothers....lol

  • The Minnesota Northstars players on the bench were laughing at Wensink.

  • could you see him challanging the wings bench when they had probert and kocur?i cant.that was bush league.

  • @reg5381 He wouldn't have had to. Kocur and Probert would probably have been on the ice against that line. Besides, even if they wouldn't have been on, neither would have sat on the bench and watched an entire line of their teammates get their asses kicked.

  • Big Buff

  • always a good time when the number of bouts outnumbers the number of officials :^)

  • Wensink looks like Ogie Oglethorpe in this video.

  • If I was in the crowd and saw Wensink do this, I would have told him to move your rear end to the dressing room, you SOB!. Far too often the Bruins and North Stars would fight. No wonder the "Boston Garden Jinx" happened. It ended in the 1981 playoffs when the Stars beat the Bruins TWICE at Boston and finsihed them off at Met Center. The Jinx is dead!

  • the bruins were a great team under neath Cherry. Too bad they didnt win a cup under him he really did deserve it

  • No, it was Wensink.

  • ok i got a question to anyone who wants to answer was it derek sanderson or john wensink that challenges the bench ? cuz this video shows wensink but i thought sanderson did that too ? can somone help > lol

  • @boxxerr93 - Sanderson was long gone from the Bruins when this game was played, and had retired from hockey altogether a couple months before.

  • @Altasren i thought so but i wasnt sure cuz i herd storyies that he challenged the bench and then Weinsink did thanks for the help :)

  • Awesome.

  • I hate the Bruins, but that was classic.

  • i love the Bruins...and you suck

  • @taypax That's original. You must be a Harvard scholar with that kind of vocab.

  • It was classic.

    They hate you too, btw.

  • John Wensink is a bad man. end of story

  • watch the language

  • grow a fuckin cock you faggot!!! you could probably suck the chrome off a bumper hitch. Hockey is for men, not he-she's! Stick to Women's field hockey you arse puncher

  • Bruins ruled back then!

But corymazz, language like that is why you're still a virgin!

  • is THAT why? darn.

  • Besides showing class, my friend, it shows BALLS!!!!!

  • please, that Minny team was a minny mouse team, it did not take any balls to challenge their spineless bench and I doubt if even Wensink considered that it took balls.

  • maybe but its cool as shit. classy and hockey don't mix anyway you bitch faggot

  • Jensen started throwing punches first and then O'Rielly handed him an ass whooping.

  • Tax fucked him up real good!

  • O'Reilly was a great fighter, but look who he's beating up here. Steve Jensen, hardly a tough guy. Anyway, if this led to that big BOS-MIN fight later on, that BOS-MIN fight led to the North Stars seeping the B's out of the playoffs the same year, then the N Stars had a pretty good run for a couple of years. It started when they finally fought back vs. the Bruins.

  • Classc Bruins video. This incident with Wensink challenging Minny's bench would be the catalyst for the famous 1981 bloodbath between the two teams. I believe it still holds the record for most penelty minites between 2 clubs in a game. Minny loaded it's bench with goons incase Wensink wanted to challenge them again. They didn't hav to wait-they were fighting as soon as the 1st puck got dropped. What a game tha was!

  • @5inthehole Philadelphia and Ottawa broke the penalty minutes record for one game in 2004.

  • @dannyg Thanks for the info! Figures it would be the Flyers though!

  • @5inthehole record was broken buy Senators Flyers brawl toward the end of season brawl in 2004 or 2006 buy 6 minutes or so!

  • Badass

  • Don cherry actually said if he were the Minnesota coach, any player that didnt go over the boards, he would have fined them

  • classic! Minnesota was a bunch of hacks who were routinely pounded by Chicago and Detroit for fun.

  • @magich8ball Yeah... Don Cherry is a maniac. I loved him!!!

  • @magich8ball

    hahahaha thats gold

  • @magich8ball

As I recall Cherry didn't say he'd fine his players if they didn't go, he said he would have gone over the boards himself. There's absolutely no chance that any team coached by Don Cherry would have no players take up that challenge.

    Old time hockey.

  • @BuffaloHead444 It was an interview sometime after the fact. Old time hockey....like Eddie Shore. :)

  • @magich8ball Don cherry is a dumbass.

  • @BluntRip Oh look. It's some fuckin' nitwit with a pot reference in his screen name talking about hockey. Did you randomly come to this video or you typed in the wrong search while high?

  • @magich8ball Fuckin fanboys. Get all butthurt cause I said something true about some total dickwad. My name has as much to do with marijuana as yours does with cocaine Mr. 8ball.

  • @BluntRip Magic h8 ball....my name has jack shit to do with coke. Reading comprehension is your friend, hippie.

  • @magich8ball And my name has jack shit to do with weed. Reading comprehension is your friend too, disgruntled faggot!

  • @BluntRip Surrrrrre it doesnt. Who's the one that replied to a comment 2 years old and started all this shit? My reading comprehension is fine thanks. Have a nice day.

  • @magich8ball If Don Cherry was in front of you right now, how long would it take before you tossed his salad and gave him a reach around?

  • @BluntRip You'll have to show me how to do that. All my experience has been with females. I know you were looking forward to watching, hippie troll.

  • @magich8ball My guess would have been 1 instant. Anyway, you toss female salad? WTF

  • LOL! OMFG! Look at his f-ing legs! XD 0:34 !!!!

  • uberofl

  • Actually, Wensink jumped the guy, Alex Pirus. They had a rematch a few months later and Wensink got pounded.

  • Funny, he didn't do much with Wensink challenging his entire team.

  • Wensink was an idiot. After Bobby Nystrom beat the shit out of him the Bruins got rid of him

  • If any player did that to the Bruins they'd all jump over the boards and pummel em back then xD.

  • The 72 bruins and the 74 flyers=the toughest teams ever.

  • DONT FORGET JOHN FERGUSON

  • ROFL

    MY

    WAFFLE

  • Yeah ok,whatever!! What the fuck's a Minny player gonna do,jump off the bench and get suspended for at least 10 games?? Give me a break man!!

  • That wasn;t the rule in the 70's ? What are you fucking 12 ?

  • As if you've never seen benchs become completely empty during fights. You're and idiot.

  • no...YOU'RE AND IDIOT!

  • Karlmalonelol, who the fuck was talking to you and asked you for your fucking stupid ass opinion.

    Go fuck yourself you moron!

  • Ain't no fuckers tougher than the Big Bad Bruins of the 70's

  • Yup. Cashman, Sanderson, O'Reilly, Jonathan, Wensink, Milbury, Hodge, Neely, McKenzie. Tough. Even Orr could fight. They also had guys who didn't fight cause no-one would mess with them, like Marcotte and Dallas Smith. Mna, they were fun to watch,!

  • Dallas Smith was one of the strongest men I've ever met. Your right, every player knew wo he was and intentional tried to stay away from him. He was a farmer in the off season and an increadable strong man.

  • Wensick was a misunderstood and troubled man. After hockey, he became a monk and now lives in Pisa, Italy. (* this according to Wikipedia)

  • Why do you make stuff up? Wikipedia does not say this you moron.

  • hahaha...got me to look!

  • o reilly beat the fuck out of that guy

  • Check out Wensink vs Nystrom and Wensink vs Langway.Wensink got his ass whipped

  • cant win em all

  • Sure he did 12 year old...lol !

  • Looks like Wensink was puttin' on the foil before this game!

  • Leave it to Wensink to punch a guy in the face when he's down, especially a non-tough guy. What an asshole he was.Loved it when Langway and Nystrom beat the shit out of him

  • Robdog65 is correct,Probert and other real tough guys wouldn't waste their time with non-fighters

  • have you ever tried skating, CJOKUSAP ?

fighters have a specialized skill, and i would laff my azz off if tito ortiz ever took on an NHL enforcer

  • CJOKUSAP u are a fuckin moron GO BRUINS!

  • CJOKUSAP, you obviously aren't a hockey fan. Fighting is an important part of the game. It keeps people honest so the players can police their own sport.

  • lol Wensink, O"Reilly and Jonathan....that's like Laraque, Brashear and Odjick on the same team.

  • That's the differences between legit guys like Probert and phony-tough pussies like Wensink--Probert would NEVER have wasted his time with a non-fighter like Alex Pirus. Weak.

  • The Big Bad Bruins baby !!!! Was there ever a tougher trio in NHL history than O'Rielly - Jonathan and Wensink ??

    Taz was pummeling that dude,,,

  • typical Wesink acting like a tough guy at home, you think Wensnk had the balls to challenge the Flyers at the Spectrum ?

  • Yes,,, yes i do.

  • wensink was getting his ass kicked till the referees saved him

  • @kcatleticos Are you really this dumb? Your mom and dad must have have been stupid and passed the genes on,

  • @BostonGarden you inhaled the lead paint from the old Boston garden and it effected your brain...

  • @kcatleticos Everyone on here laughs at you and your inane posts. You are a big wus just like those players on the North Stars bench were. Be a good little boy and run along before you get lit up.

  • @BostonGarden you have to stop living in the past, the days of the Big Bad Bruins are long over , so get over it and enjoy your mediorce team you have now..

  • Behn wilson, M Bridgman and paul Holmgren were better fighters.Wilson whipped all 3

  • O'rielly would take all 3 of them at once and pund them into submission,, Taz was the toughest ever,,,, sorry, just my opinion

  • Oreilly beat Holmgren the other 2 pummeled Taz a few times and jack mchalargy fought Oreilly to a draw

  • And Nick Fotiu beat the shit out of Wilson and Holmgren.

  • Wilson whipped Wensink and Jonathon????

    Really???

  • yes there was, the Flyers, Bridgman, Mchalargy and Behn Wilson

  • When O'Reilly got his left going his opponent was usually fucked. Wensink became a psycho the second he put his skates on. Off the ice, great guy, on the ice....crazy as shit. Same goes for Stan Jonathon.

  • Haha! Terry ran that guy through a blender. Christ.

  • Bruins still kicking the Stars asses after all these years!

P.S. Steve Ott is a fucking cuntslime cheapshot artist.

  • Don Cherry used to dress Wensink just to sit on the bench and intimidate the other team even though he was injured. You have to have a reputation for your coach to even consider that, especially one like Cherry who really knew who was tough and who wasnt.

  • Wensink was tough, but not tougher than O'Reilly or Jonathan, and Cherry NEVER just dressed Wensink to scare the other team.

He played a semi-regular shift and scored 20 goals one season.

  • Taz was throwing some fuckin' haymakers at that dude.

  • The B`s buried the Northstars in these fights but that open Minnesota up a little and they became a much tougher team and also a very good contending team. Not to many players wanted to deal with Taz and Wensink.

  • I'm proud to say I know both Terry O'Reilly and John Wensink personally. They are both great guys, and total gentlemen off the ice. John and I reflected on this fight not too long ago! It was a good one!

  • i wish the nhl was like this today. we now got diving pussys like crosby and avery. bring back the goons and take out the instigator rule.

  • As I recall Gilles Lupien kicked his ass quite easily.

  • You recall incorrectly. Wensink gave Lupien a ten minute beating. But the Bruins always kicked the Canadien's asses.

  • nshore, you're right: the bruins did kick the Canadien's asses, unfortunately, Canadiens won all the Cups!!

  • John Wensink...LOL...probably the worst hockey player ever. couldn't play for shit. another loser Bruin

  • ha ha ha, you're an idiot!

still whinin that your thug team of murderers and other cons has lost to the stiinkin fish?

  • what???

  • You just wish you had the balls to do what he did in this vid ya pussy

  • I remember watching this game, just a typical, 1970s Bruins game. They were always an entertaining bunch back then with Orr, O'Reilly, Sanderson, Wensink, the list goes on. Stan Jonathon was another badass.

  • at first it looks like they are all on a Merry-Go-Round then punches get thrown lol. I like it when the to players are fighting at the 50 sec mark thats great too. Love him mockin the nech thats GREAT!!!

  • I love this! Johnny Wensink was out of his fucking mind,

look at O'Reilly man handling...if only the NHL was like this today, people would dig it

  • not saying you need it every night. But today's Bruins could use a little of that edge. There was something a little nutty, a little scray about the Killer B's of the 70's.

  • Hell, today's NHL needs some of this edge.

  • finally cracked 100+ subscribers

    aiming at 500+ hockey clips...

  • Classic Bruins brawl. Don't mess with the B's, especially in the 70's!

  • Bruins won all the fights and Canadiens won all the Cups!

    Goon hockey at its finest!

  • And according to George Plimpton's book, "Net Worth", Wensink built doll houses.

Truth. Nothing wrong with it, but unexpected.

  • I remember watching this game as a kid. I laughed my ass off then and again now. I would loved to have seen a Bruins team with John Wensink and Derek Sanderson. Oh the possibilities.

  • im from akron ohio..as a teen in high school i always listened to the bruins games while doing my homework. i remember this game and the ranger game when they went in the stands-loved the bruins and hockey then...hate it now.

  • wow i feel bad for Jensen, O'reilly just hammered him

  • I don't know if I have ever seen taz give quite an uncontested shellacking. what did jensen do to get his goat?

  • i remember listening to this game on the radio in my bedroom as a kid in ohio..bob wilson was a great announcer...this fight and when they went into the stands will always be remembered by me.

  • haha! that's got to be one of the funnier moments in hockey.

  • Wensink was a maaaad man! I remember seeing this game live on TV, and Don Cherry said if anybody ever skated over to his bench and challenged the entire team the way Wensink did he would have fineed any player who didn't go after him!

  • taz could chuck em and the northstars were great at catching them[lol].

  • thats gotta be the funniest movements of a guy getting pounded I've ever seen, O'reily dizzied him up!!

  • Vintage example of the way hockey used to be. Minnesota never lived this 1977 game down and were branded as a "chicken hockey" team by then coach Don Cherry. Only 2 yrs earlier, Dave Forbes (Bruins) viciously attacked Henry Boucha (Minnesota) with the butt end of his stick leaving partial blindness. That (and this game) were the precursor to the game in '81 where Minn came to Boston to erase the perception of their team. In that '81 game, they ended up with 406 PIMs.

  • That was a classic clip. You don't see fights like that anymore.

  • Man that shit is classic Bruins. Imagine PJ Stock back in this day and age of hockey.

  • Top 5 manly moment in sports history?!?!?!

  • So proud, Wensink is a MAN.

  • THAT's what i'm talkin about. old time puck. god it is sad what the game has become, and how irrelevant the B's now are.

  • y'know, it IS possible to watch these cool old clips without complaining about the modern game, which has A LOT of great things about it too.
