i had strong urges for cigars as a child i loved the aroma's of the smoke in the air as my uncle smoked cigars , but learned that my grandfather that died long before i was born had a love affair with cigars & in that war time era they were very poor the family would save up the little money they had to buy him cigars for his birthday and special occasions , so i guess the appreciation for cigars was born into my blood i absolutely love smoking cigars , and think of my grandfather when smoking.
Wow what an amazing story and strong connection. Thank you so much for sharing and please consider leaving this comment on my blog too for others to enjoy. I think it's a powerful perspective a lot of people will connect with.
Thank you, it all plays an important role and is something I wanted to share. She gave me so much I am very grateful for. Truly, I am happy to not see her suffer now, but make the most of all she gave me.
as a time-honored way to enjoy tobacco flavor _naturally_ and relatively health risk free.
Living in Japan, I've lost the opportunity to carry on with many of the things you mentioned, such as family gatherings and parties, but I am very much a reflection of the personalities and life-appreciating characteristics of my parents, as I can see you are, too. I would love to hear any of your childhood recollections of observing men smoking cigars and their impressions on your young mind. :)
@cigarpipefun As a child I though of a cigar as something of elegance- from the smell, the lighting ritual, to the beautiful ash trays. There would be deep conversation and relaxation all at once, and I was happy to observe and feel like a part of it. I also remember the pretty bottles of scotch and various spirits that would be paired with them.
Thanks so much for replying. It doesn't surprise me that you always looked at cigars as being a kind of tool for relaxation and symbol of elegance, with the obviously sincere fondness you have expressed for them in your clips.
Perhaps you could talk about your first cigar smoking experience in a clip sometime. I would love to hear it. Did it involve family in any way, such as a coming-of-age conversational transaction? Were you gifted with a cigar? Did you sneak one from a humidor? :)
@cigarpipefun Anti smoking these days has little or nothing to do with tobacco, it is all oversimplified. Balance is key in anything, but we can move forward remembering the things we love, enjoy them, and perhaps inspire interest in others.
Thanks for sharing some background about your life, Teresa. I'm sorry to hear about your mother and aunt. I think I really began to appreciate things more after my father passed away, when I was 23, but it wasn't until I was about 35 that I became interested in cigars. Like you, I never had an interest in cigarettes, though both parents smoked them. (Mom still does.) I think it's kind of a shame that in the anti-smoking atmosphere of this era, we can't promote cigar smoking, if done occasionally
@cigarpipefun Some experiences are happy and others are strength building. I like to take appreciation from both as they play a role in who we are. Thank you so much for sharing yours! I like what you said about "being a reflection of the personalities and life-appreciating characteristics" of your parents. You certainly are, and I am delighted to hear you do so.
