They marry girls off at age 9, so boys are thought of as "grown" too. This isn't about the money for the child, but that the father doesn't have to continue to feed that child. Usually the kid stays with the Dad so he can WORK and help support the family. Apparently there is no work there now that they had the flood. Yes, it is sad, but is happens with over-population.

Sometimes the parents aren't selling their children for their OWN survival but so that their chidren can sirvive, they believe that their child will be better off with someone else who will, so they think, feed them, educate them, and show them the world, but they don't realise where their children are going, parents would sell their own children into that kind of rubbish.
