Last time I checked, their website doesn't say that. They claim that the hair goes to alopecia patients, not cancer patients. They seem to alter their website fairly often. There used to be a lot more info about statistics and such, but it has been deleted for obvious reasons. A kid without hair can always buy a wig from an honest commercial wig maker, there's no need to buy it from a scam organization like LoL. According to the tax returns, LoL has made millions of dollars from hair sales and money donations, yet they cannot even give 1 percent of the hair for free. Locks of Love is clearly not a charity, it's a scam.

It's correct. LoL have stated that they collect around 2000 ponytails a week, that's over 100,000 ponytails a year. They say it takes 6 to 10 ponytails to make one wig. If we say 10 that would be over 10,000 wigs per year. The have been in business since 1997 and have only made over 2000 wigs in over 10 years. Less than one percent goes to alopecia patients (NOT cancer patients) and even that has to be paid, as they admit on their own website. Other hair is either sold or thrown away.

Each wig they make is custom-fitted to the child that will receive it. The wigs are hugely costly, and they say right upfront that they will sell hair that isn't usable to help defray costs. They sell hair that is too short, gray, or chemically-treated for commercial use to raise money. I don't see the problem with that. As for not giving out every wig for free, of course they can't. Helping according to income level makes perfect sense. Why do you have such an issue with them?

They should be forthright with what they are actually doing. Most people who donate hair believe that their hair will actually go to these patients. According to Wikipedia, the hair that LoL uses comes from ASIA, and even if they do use some American hair in making children's wigs, at MOST it is about 1%! Do the numbers. 113 wigs in 2002, 104,000 donations. Even at ten tails per wig, that's about 1%. Most people do NOT know that their hair has been sold en masse for a few bucks.
