Only thing that scares me about bamboo is that it catches on fire very very easy, stays on fire for quite an long time, and spreads fire to other things very fast. Never plant by buildings like your house.
Hey nice video. I live in northern Ohio (zone 6a) and this is what we have in our backyard. Our grove is about seven years old now. What zone do you live in?
Thank you for your comment. I believe we are in zone 7 but we are in the mountains so it is a litle colder then other areas in our region. We hope to plant some moso in the next couple of years.
Beautiful! Congratulations on the find, and living near nice neighbors that can share (with there misfortune : ) overgrown) It really is a nice food lumber source, I hope that bamboo can grow more into everyones lives ; ) Wish the best for you and your wonderful household.
A neighbor of mine, as a child, had a huge bamboo forest. It was awesome. You could really pretend like you were somewhere totally different and exotic. I never thought of reproducing that...but its a great idea. I guess the important thing is to put it somewhere you don't mind it taking over or putting in the work to keep it cut back.
We love bamboo as it feels like it is from another planet or another time. Mid-Atlantic Bamboo which is located south of Richmond, VA has a great website on how to choose and contain bamboo. We visited there a couple of years ago. They have lots of different bamboos including ones that are 100ft tall and used for lumber. You can clearcut the crop and it will send up new shoots the next spring that will quickly be just as tall.
