I really like this song! can you please tell me what the title of the song is or who sang it? thank you! and thanks for the vid! I watched this 3 years ago and somehow I never made this. ill definitely give it a try cuz im actually craving some right now =p
thanx for the video, my husband isnt khmer but he loves this dessert so i will be making this for him. if i wanted to substitute the banana with taro do i have to cook the taro first and then put it in or do i just cook the taro in with the coconut cream?
@Mizzibabegal Wow! We have 2 things in common. I was part of the original devadas group when Ming Mao first had her outfits. I was the leader wearing white b/c she thought I was the tallest...LOL! That was probably more than 10 yrs ago. I used to teach the Wishing Dance and perform at International Festivals and Ming Mao let us borrowed those devada gear too. I guess you know my cousin, Cristallina (Lina)? She did the scarf dance amongst others.
@Mizzibabegal What a small world! Ask Lina how she used to do the Wishing Dance with me at International Festivals...she was so young and cute....hehe! Her Sweet 16 is coming up and I will be doing her hair and make-up...hmm...I may or may not do a tutorial on it if she allows me to post it.
hi.. i just want to say thank you for this video... i tried it and its yummy, i put too much tapioca but it still good.. even my coworker who doesn't like coconut ate it and loved it, cus i told her, once it cools down the sweetness of the banana and its sweet banana smell overcome the coconut taste and smell so she love it...
i love watching all of your delicious cooking video. my favorite one of the dessert is La pov song kya, wonder if u could show us how to make it :) Thank you!
OK, so i've had coconut milk in my closet for about a month now, then i remembered u cooked something with coconut milk last night. I made it just now...omg...OMG. it was so good! and only cost 2 bucks (i didn't add tapioca, and I used brown sugar instead of reg.). ur the best, so jealous of ur husband right now!
whoa. thats looks hecka good! Us filipinos have a similar dessert called guinitian(spl?) except instead of just tapioca and bananas we add additional things. like taro and such
Hi paowne srey sweetinnocentgurl. Yes I am, but haven't had the chance yet. I hope to make it soon but I know that I'll be busy these next 3 weeks. Please stay tuned.
Yes chanmalai...very simple and delish if you're looking for that quick sweetness. My grandmother had diabetes and she would had been able to eat a small bowlful. It just depends on how careful you take care of yourself.
Thanks pinksunrays! Yes, I agree that I am still very traditional in many ways (though I was born here)...that's why my husband and I get along great...don't let your ex or any men unmotivate you to cook...gotta keep your tummy full right? I love to eat...hehe!
hehe.. no i never let any guy unmotivate me.. i really cant cook tho.. last time i made him scramble eggs for my boyfriend and it was crunchy.. hehe he still ate it tho..
oh and one more thing i just wanted to tell you youre very pretty and I see that youre very talented when it comes to keep youre yourself looking right like how a women should and you could cook too.. thats the perfect wifey right there.. 2 thumbs ups to you mz forg3tm3not770!!!!
Not really. The salt in the first part is to cut down the slimliness of the bananas and to hold it's color instead of turning the pudding to purple when you cook it and the tsp of salt at the end is necessary b/c all desserts still needs salt. But sure, try it and tell me how it goes...I'm sure it'll taste wonderful.
my family has a recipe thats very similar to this but we use lost of sweet rice balls and jackfruit sometimes theres even sweet potato added...you should try it :]
OMG! My mom just made something similiar to that last week! It was awesome and I was thinking of doing a tutorial on it too...wow, we really do have similiar cultures. What is your nationality?
Oohh...I had skipped this msg and didn't even realized that you had written this...sorry. Yes, my whole wedding will be the typical Khmer tradition. I had posted a summarized version of my wedding here if you'd like to view it.
My cousin had asked me the same thing and to tell you the truth, I do not know. That was how my mom taught me, but she did said that every dessert still needs an amount of salt no matter how sweet you want it. Thanks for asking Jinirific b/c I'm sure that everybody had this same question. *^_^*
Hola sweetie! It's one of my favorites too (or maybe b/c it's easy to make...hehe). We put it in salt water to give chete to the bananas (or so my momma would say) b/c every dessert still needs at least some sort of salt whether a pinch or teaspoon. I also add ice in the salt water afterwards (which I forgot to show) to freeze in the color. C u when u c me in March!!! *^_^*
LOLz yea, i made some that night, it was sooooo good. so easy. im such a sweet junkie, u can't get me hyper with just that lol, and then had some the next day in the morning. well thanks again bong srey...
Yay! That would be great! Thanks for the offer...it's good to know that I have my own personal tour guide there...*^_^* So when will you be coming back to the U.S.? I'm sure you miss your man lots.
Yep! Did you meant root potato or taro root? You can use taro, bananas, baby bananas, and plantains. The only difference b/t each is how long you should leave it simmering (i.e. taro & plantains takes longer to get soft).
Thanks bong, I was waiting for this. It looks really eazy to make, and Im sure that i'll be able to make some tonight... LOL thanks alot. Will u be making anymore cooking tutorials? If so, can't wait!!!!
Thanks paowne srey! Yes, it's very easy to make, but you sure you want to make it at night? You'll be hyper throughout the night due to the sweetness. I've been eating it all day and I can feel myself getting hyper...hehe!
Thanks grothesque! Wikipedia defined it as, "a flavourless starchy ingredient produced from treated and dried cassava (manioc) root and used in cooking".
Omg! This looks so easy to make! Thank you for sharing. Will definitely give this a go!

technical question, why did you cut the bananas and let them rested in water with salt?
smeykao 3 years ago
By resting the bananas in salt, it will help keep the color of the bananas instead of that brownish bruised color once peeled.
