As folks see, there are two things, the original recording artists (sometimes even anonymous studio musicians) and the corporate entity. Most bands names are copyrighted and it is legal to have a new line-up continue performing under the name, even though the original members are mostly dead. The guy who was lead singer was chosen to be a chubby guy with a voice similar to the original singer of the tune. These guys did a tolerably good job, I've heard lots worse.

This is the 2007 lineupp of this classic band. The lead singer/harmonica player is Robert Lucas who fronted Canned Heat until his tragic death last year. Bassist Greg Kage has been a member of CH since the mid 90s and lead guitarrist Barry Levenson joined in 2005. The drummer in this video temporarily replaced Fito for the 2007 European tour.
