When you are driving a big rig along the highway, and see a camera crew ahead on the other side of the road, you don't expect the car ahead of you to be stopping. In a situation of this nature the common sense manouvre would be to firstly check your rear vision mirror then pull over to the left and wait for the following traffic to pass. Then proceed to turn across the highway to the other side. This truckie deserves an award for his effort in avoiding a possible fatality. GOD BLESS HIM.

the problem with our roads and deaths that occur on it is drivers like this who dont think, who the hell would think it was a good idea to stop with your right hand indicator on in a 100 zone. i suppose if the truck driver hit that car they would blame speed and want to put cameras there.

I was going to give Mr Abbott heaps of shit. But after going over the video i noticed the White Mini bus which was also moving around left to avoid the car turning right, the car wasnt breaking the law . What happend i think, is the Truck couldnt see the car because the bus was in front of him, his view was blocked. And he might of been lookin at all the people to his right :) ... Funny tho hahah imagine if it connected

This is stupid. Abbott's driver is a Commonwealth Government employee and is part of the public service - Tony Abbott does not select him. It has been confirmed numerous times by the Victorian Police that Abbott's driver did not break the law by making a turn where he did. Finally, if the truck driver did not leave a sufficient distance between Tony Abbott's car and his semi-trailer, then he was driving dangerously. Next time you rear-end someone, try blaming it on them and see how far you get.

60 zone independent traffic accident inspector cleared comcar driver and lay the blame at the truck drivers feet, whilst commending him for gd evasive action condemning him for failing to drive at a correct speed and distance. the truck driver sits 2.3 metres high in his cab and should be able to see far into the distance, including over the bus between comcar and truck. the comcar driver was fully entitled to turn from that position and it is not required or common practise to pull to the left

Police get on youtube to hunt down car hoons. Have they seen this video and will Abbotts driver be charged with driving with undue care? All the evidence they need is on this video.
For all the people that are saying what he did is legal it is still considered as driving with undue care. If you drive at 45 kmh in a 100 zone you can be charged with driving with undue care. Stopping in a 100 zone in a place that it is likely to cause an accident is driving with undue care.

People tailgate too much and this is a lucky escape... if your driving something that is that heavy you need to keep back from the traffic in front of you so youve got time to stop without raming up the back of someone,,, unfortunately it is a responsibility to be wary of traffic in front of you because moments like this will always happen. Watch ahead of you and keep back and moments like this wont happen.

look closely at the bus, it does not indicate to pull off the road and the truck driver would not have seen the car pulled up. country drivers know the dangers involved with this action and would have pulled off to the left and wait for the road to clear. great reaction time from the truck driver, just showing it is usually stupid car drivers that are to blame for truck vs car accidents.

Haha obviously everyone failed to see the indicator flashing to turn right. There is a pretty good chance a turn off lane there. The truckie was probably doing what most of us would do and looking at all the cameras, looked back up and was approaching that mini bus way too quick.

When you are driving a big rig along the highway, and see a camera crew ahead on the other side of the road, you don't expect the car ahead of you to be stopping. In a situation of this nature the common sense manouvre would be to firstly check your rear vision mirror then pull over to the left and wait for the following traffic to pass. Then proceed to turn across the highway to the other side. This truckie deserves an award for his effort in avoiding a possible fatality. GOD BLESS HIM.
