Why hasn't Koko been bred? I thought you were going to, to see if she would teach her baby. I can see that Penny really loves Koko and Koko loves her. Human, animal bonds are so special. She is so smart but animals are smarter than people give them credit.
@Pattyjo46 Well, that's why they introduced her to Michael and then Ndume. If Koko wants to mate with them, she will, but so far she hasn't showed interest, apparently. She may be able to give birth up into her forties, so there's still a little time for her to get busy.
@IAreDunce Do you have any contact with Penny? Does Koko cycle normally, have they checked her thryoid and other hormone levels? Has she ever seen mating behavior with other gorillas. We have bred poodles and we have had problems with low end of normal thryoid and they don't cycle right, put them on medication and they can get bred. We have had boys that have been shy and had to watch another to learn how. What about AI, can they collect one of the boys and inseminate her.
Once she had a baby she would be more receptive, at least what we have found with dogs. An inexperienced girl is afraid. I just hate to see this research not come to the final conclusion. I would be helping the conception process with what ever is necessary. Consult with Reproductive Vets. Koko deserves her own baby to love and think how great it would be to see her teach her baby. It would prove her intelligence. Tell Koko many people love her and want her to be happy.
