That's how Walker horses ended up being abused.... people love the "high action" of the front legs. Learn and watch closely, there is some flashy action here but little going on in the engine, croup is high and hind legs trailing (not truly sitting). Notice the deathgrip on the mouth. I understand how it looks great to the uneducated eye.

The standard comparison is Dr. Klimke on Alherich, there you will see a horse that is free to use his neck and is beautifully expressive as a result. Klimke's training never condoned pulling on the horse's face to train him. Educate yourself and you will begin to see how this is a circus ride compared to classical dressage.

In the showring, there is still plenty of evidence that the horse is trained incorrectly. The horse is almost always behind the vertical, which 15 or 20 years ago would have been a HUGE no-no and marked down considerably. For some reason (highly debated) the judges seem to overlook this fault.

But to people like you, someone a blue ribbon outweights all the other proof? Just because she's winning does not make it right. Unfortunately everyday there are trainers with abusive or questionable practices in the showring and it does not make it "right". Someone has to stand up for the horse's well being.
@GaelicsRose It constitutes abuse for many reasons. The horse cannot see anything except the patch of ground directly in front of his feet. His breathing is restricted. His mouth is assaulted. His entire spinal column is put under strain. Try putting your chin to your chest and then executing a dance routine for an hour. You would be quite unhappy after a few minutes. Rollkur is not a natural posture for the horse.

i dont see why people are fighting, but then again i dont care at the moment. :) has anyone ever noticed that the breyer horse they made after keltec salinero is more lighter than the actual horse? keltec salinero is more black, it looks like to me. they made the breyer horse more brown and lighter. but he's still one of my favorite horses i have. :D personally, i love hunterjumping, (my name -_- ) i love being in the air, and being with horses! i used to do dressage, but i like jumping more.
...because people want to see the big flashy knee action in the extensions (which rollkur produces). because to the every day back yard rider, these images of horses being held BTV, broken at the third vertebrae, and having spectacular knee action is viewed as "correct", whereas images of a horse with the nose IFV, poll at the highest point, and w/o such spectacular knee action is dubbed "incorrect".
Yes, I do think she pushes her horses far too much. and yes, rollkur does cause pain. when the horse flexes his neck like that, it causes the nulchar ligaments to overstretch, when it should be relaxed & supple. over time, rollkur causes additional bony growth on the poll, which in turn causes a lot of pain. it impares the horse's breathing and causes back pain & muscle fatigue. so given all of the negative side-effects of rollkur, why is she the best? b/c international judgind is biased...
There is nothing wrong with what she does. She is doing it right dressage has changed over the years and she is just trying to win and it's ok to try to win and yes she is called the dancing queen for a reason
but at what cost? is a gold medal really worth permanently damaging your horse's neck and poll? is it really worth the pain the hyperflexion causes? is it really worth potentially ruining a horse? theres nothing wrong with wanting to be the best and win, but there has to be a line drawn somewhere. to push your horse to do too much too fast, using false training methods that have been proven to cause irreversible damage just to win is plain selfishness, and thers no excuse for that in my opinion

This video is a disgusting display of dressage. She sits so stiff in the saddle its no wonder her horse has no movement through his back or neck. Queen of the Kur my ass. Salinero is so tightly kept at the third vertebra that its no wonder he cant get off the forehand once in the whole performance. This is not dressage, if you want to watch real dressage watch anything on La Cadre Noir or The spanish riding school

no, it doesn't. a truely skilled rider would have a horse go off of the slightest of cues, I think spurs and ouble bridles should be banned from dressage as perhaps this would allow for people who rely on such gadgets to fall away from the top and allow for those who have no need for them to start to do half pie decently. Spurs are handy to get a horse to react faster or lift his feet higher but that doesn't make it right, or nessacery.
also continual spurring in frowned upon in dressage as it dulls the horses sensitivity to the leg aids, which is the opposite of what you want in a dressage horse. A horse that is well trained by a sensitive rider doesn't need spurs so it won't get legs aids confused, spurs are totally unnessacery

Ah-lot of dressage competitions like this is required that you use a double bridle and have spurs on cuz it looks more professional. I'm pretty sure Anky wouldn't need spurs to do well in any of the dressage competitions she enters anyways.

Yes but only when your regularly riding, Im sure Keltic could do easily without them. As seen in her trianing videos, but as said its required. So no biggy :D
P.s if you have spurs on it doesn't say you have to use them, even with spurs you can ride your horse on your calves (without using your spurs every two seconds).

It annoys the shit out of me that she can only keep him halted for like 0.5 seconds at the end of her test. I can't stand it. As soon as she goes to salute the judge Sailnaro starts to piaffe again. AGHHHH!!!
This is the problem: the movements are not natural anymore. The goal of dressage riding was omce the enhancement and support of the horses NATURAL movements to the benefit to the horse in keeping it healthy. Today this it turned ad absurdum. I am sad what has become the standard in the Dressage sport I loved so dearly.
i hate anky. She is a good rider, but she is so violent. Did you know that when she was training Salinero to do piaffe she tied his hind feet together so that he wouldn't move? Yeah, i think its cruel. She uses whips alot, and now, in competitions, she can screw up and they will still giver her points because A) Shes still a good rider and B) because all the judges already know her and she is automatically in the finals which is unfair to other riders who had a chance with her. I thnk its unfair

I do agree with you at some points. I don't think she tied Salinero's feet together, and Salinero doesn't really looks like he's being mistreated but when you watch other dressage video's it's quite obvious Salinero doesn't look as relaxed or happy compared to most of the horses.
And yes, she does get the "Anky Points". To be honest, I am Dutch but at the olympic games I watched her and I wanted to win someone else so bad...
I saw her warming up her horses in 2006 at the WEG. I was shocked to say the least. This is not because I favor a German rider over her but because it is a perversion of the sport I love so much. Dressage has become a show, a farce this kind of riding has nothing to do with working on relaxed self confident and naturally expressive horses. And Anky is not the only one forgetting this. German riders are nowhere better than her. We are on a very wrong way.
ever since i started working at a dressage barn with grand prix horses, i have a totally new respect for this. it is so much harder than it looks, and the horses are so finely tuned, any wrong move of your hand or leg, and the horse does something defferent. it is amazing. i got the opportunity to ride a Grand Prix stallion, and it was amazing. this video is great
I was watching this and my 3 year old daughter was watching behind me and she said " mum, i want one of those dancing horses" i couldn't help laughing, but I honestly want one too!
I agree with SuperstarShelby, it's also really hard for the rider to give all commands. This summer I didn't ride for about 2 weeks, when I came back on the horse my legs hurt for like 9 days! And I'm even a beginner!

Do you really think with a panel of world class judges sitting there watching her and her horses every move, they would mark her the way they do if that horse was in ANY type of pain or discomfort. I agree, read some books and find that a lot of this horse's qualities are totally undesireable in dressage, such as constantly behind the bit.
The FEI's own directives state what should and shouldn't be scored highly, and the judges are for some reason awarding high scores even though the horse is in clear violation of what the FEI describes as desireable qualities.
No one quite knows why they are doing that, and a lot of classically trained people are confused and frustrated by it.

A swishing tail can be a sign of a well balanced horse as well as a sign of it being pissed off..... its neck cocked is called shaping up and it helps the horse to devlop its body and use him self better... extending is a doddle for a well balanced and well trained horse like this....its for our enjoyment, the horse so it showcase its great talent......... i dont think its rediculous you could do a lot worse for a horse than train it perfectly and then showcase tis talent!

Wow! It is amazing but true how little understanding you guys have of dressage. Words like harsh and control. They have no place in dressage. It is about flowing with your horse. A dance. An elegant but harmonious choreography between horse and rider. Not a stiff, bouncing up and down, jagged edged, sharpness of a ride. There is no harmony between Anky and any of the horses she rides. Politics and money. No horsemanship here my friends. I bet Anky cannot even tell you what Dressage is!
I would be riding if I had the money and sponcership Anky has. She is a terrible rider, and she is nothing better than training level material. She needs to really focus on her basics. She has a horrible seat, leg and hands. The basic three principles of riding dressage. How can any of you even not see this?! If you have any knowledge of horsemanship at all?! Anky needs to step down. Anyone who truly understands dressage knows this.
If you've ever riden a horse at that level you wouldn't have an imaculate position either. It's amazing how little her body does move. I had the oppertunity to ride a horse with the same level or training as Keltec this year and my body was all over the place. I'm not as skilled as a rider as Anky, but I am good enough that I usually am as still as stone. However, horses that move like that may look smooth, but being in controll you can see how harsh the movements feel.
Here is Anky again. What a horrible rider. Her upper body is not even square with the horse. It sits way back, instead of being suare over her hips. Notice how her upper body leans way back.If we were to draw a straight line through her center, we would have three sections that would not line up. Anky rides as if she forcrs the horse to make movements instead of flowing with the horse. She looks like a pogo stick riding a horse. Anky is great because of money and politics, not because of talent
There is also a website that shows that ankys horses where tested by a vet and it was proved that nothing was wrong with her horses. Not to mention a harmed or abused or a horser in pain, wouldnt win several olympics, 3 world cups and 2 world equestrian games.. not to mention this has been acheived on not only one modern dressage horse but MANY. here is my proof, and if you cant take the truth thats you completly at fault. And where is my proof? Take a look at the oldest hyperflexed horse today. Anky's Bonfire was ridden with hyperflexion from the age of 4 until the age of 17. Thats 14 years of hyperflexion in his training. He is now 25 years of age and he is still be ridden today by anky in a snaffle bridle. That horse is not broken down, he is still today extremely fit. Take a look at all the hyperflexed horses.. nothing wrong with any of them! thats my proof. :)
Firsty, Hyperflexion is never used on some horse who is randomly pulled out of the paddock. They dont pull some random horse out and crank his nose to his chest. Other wise yes, the horse would be injured. The horses are those who have been in work years, theyre extremely strong, theyre extremely fit and extremely supple. Therefore the horse is able to put himself and flex himself into such positions completly at ease.

If a person says that a winning performance like this(world cup title) sucks I would very much like too see that person ride! Salinero is so beautiful, anky is in great shape (some of the really good top riders today are reallt fat)and they look great togheter, the music is ..wow!

Every single time I watch ankys performance I get a tear in my eye cus its SO BEAUTIFUL. You can't report people for saying something that's true, and while it may not change what Anky does, it might change the minds of some uninformed people who think that rollkur is harmless, which it isn't. i dont see why people are fighting, but then again i dont care at the moment. :) has anyone ever noticed that the breyer horse they made after keltec salinero is more lighter than the actual horse? keltec salinero is more black, it looks like to me. they made the breyer horse more brown and lighter. but he's still one of my favorite horses i have. :D personally, i love hunterjumping, (my name -_- ) i love being in the air, and being with horses! i used to do dressage, but i like jumping more.

...because people want to see the big flashy knee action in the extensions (which rollkur produces). because to the every day back yard rider, these images of horses being held BTV, broken at the third vertebrae, and having spectacular knee action is viewed as "correct", whereas images of a horse with the nose IFV, poll at the highest point, and w/o such spectacular knee action is dubbed "incorrect".

Yes, I do think she pushes her horses far too much. and yes, rollkur does cause pain. when the horse flexes his neck like that, it causes the nulchar ligaments to overstretch, when it should be relaxed & supple. over time, rollkur causes additional bony growth on the poll, which in turn causes a lot of pain. it impares the horse's breathing and causes back pain & muscle fatigue. so given all of the negative side-effects of rollkur, why is she the best? b/c international judgind is biased...

but at what cost? is a gold medal really worth permanently damaging your horse's neck and poll? is it really worth the pain the hyperflexion causes? is it really worth potentially ruining a horse? theres nothing wrong with wanting to be the best and win, but there has to be a line drawn somewhere. to push your horse to do too much too fast, using false training methods that have been proven to cause irreversible damage just to win is plain selfishness, and thers no excuse for that in my opinion

Take a look at the abuses in other disciplines and you'll realize that what WINS is not always RIGHT.
What you take to be proof that her training is correct and humane, I take to be proof of the denegration of the sport.

This video is a disgusting display of dressage. She sits so stiff in the saddle its no wonder her horse has no movement through his back or neck. Queen of the Kur my ass. Salinero is so tightly kept at the third vertebra that its no wonder he cant get off the forehand once in the whole performance. This is not dressage, if you want to watch real dressage watch anything on La Cadre Noir or The spanish riding school

no, it doesn't. a truely skilled rider would have a horse go off of the slightest of cues, I think spurs and ouble bridles should be banned from dressage as perhaps this would allow for people who rely on such gadgets to fall away from the top and allow for those who have no need for them to start to do half pie decently. Spurs are handy to get a horse to react faster or lift his feet higher but that doesn't make it right, or nessacery.

also continual spurring in frowned upon in dressage as it dulls the horses sensitivity to the leg aids, which is the opposite of what you want in a dressage horse. A horse that is well trained by a sensitive rider doesn't need spurs so it won't get legs aids confused, spurs are totally unnessacery

Ah-lot of dressage competitions like this is required that you use a double bridle and have spurs on cuz it looks more professional. I'm pretty sure Anky wouldn't need spurs to do well in any of the dressage competitions she enters anyways.

This is the problem: the movements are not natural anymore. The goal of dressage riding was omce the enhancement and support of the horses NATURAL movements to the benefit to the horse in keeping it healthy. Today this it turned ad absurdum. I am sad what has become the standard in the Dressage sport I loved so dearly.

i hate anky. She is a good rider, but she is so violent. Did you know that when she was training Salinero to do piaffe she tied his hind feet together so that he wouldn't move? Yeah, i think its cruel. She uses whips alot, and now, in competitions, she can screw up and they will still giver her points because A) Shes still a good rider and B) because all the judges already know her and she is automatically in the finals which is unfair to other riders who had a chance with her. I thnk its unfair

I do agree with you at some points. I don't think she tied Salinero's feet together, and Salinero doesn't really looks like he's being mistreated but when you watch other dressage video's it's quite obvious Salinero doesn't look as relaxed or happy compared to most of the horses.
And yes, she does get the "Anky Points". To be honest, I am Dutch but at the olympic games I watched her and I wanted to win someone else so bad...

I saw her warming up her horses in 2006 at the WEG. I was shocked to say the least. This is not because I favor a German rider over her but because it is a perversion of the sport I love so much. Dressage has become a show, a farce this kind of riding has nothing to do with working on relaxed self confident and naturally expressive horses. And Anky is not the only one forgetting this. German riders are nowhere better than her. We are on a very wrong way.

ever since i started working at a dressage barn with grand prix horses, i have a totally new respect for this. it is so much harder than it looks, and the horses are so finely tuned, any wrong move of your hand or leg, and the horse does something defferent. it is amazing. i got the opportunity to ride a Grand Prix stallion, and it was amazing. this video is great

I agree with SuperstarShelby, it's also really hard for the rider to give all commands. This summer I didn't ride for about 2 weeks, when I came back on the horse my legs hurt for like 9 days! And I'm even a beginner!

I agree, read some books and find that a lot of this horse's qualities are totally undesireable in dressage, such as constantly behind the bit.
The FEI's own directives state what should and shouldn't be scored highly, and the judges are for some reason awarding high scores even though the horse is in clear violation of what the FEI describes as desireable qualities.
No one quite knows why they are doing that, and a lot of classically trained people are confused and frustrated by it.

A swishing tail can be a sign of a well balanced horse as well as a sign of it being pissed off..... its neck cocked is called shaping up and it helps the horse to devlop its body and use him self better... extending is a doddle for a well balanced and well trained horse like this....its for our enjoyment, the horse so it showcase its great talent......... i dont think its rediculous you could do a lot worse for a horse than train it perfectly and then showcase tis talent!

I personally believe the whole world has lost the meaning of what dressage is and should be. No I cannot compete in this level. Why? because of money and politics. Wow! It is amazing but true how little understanding you guys have of dressage. Words like harsh and control. They have no place in dressage. It is about flowing with your horse. A dance. An elegant but harmonious choreography between horse and rider. Not a stiff, bouncing up and down, jagged edged, sharpness of a ride. There is no harmony between Anky and any of the horses she rides. Politics and money. No horsemanship here my friends. I bet Anky cannot even tell you what Dressage is!

I would be riding if I had the money and sponcership Anky has. She is a terrible rider, and she is nothing better than training level material. She needs to really focus on her basics. She has a horrible seat, leg and hands. The basic three principles of riding dressage. How can any of you even not see this?! If you have any knowledge of horsemanship at all?! Anky needs to step down. Anyone who truly understands dressage knows this.

If you've ever riden a horse at that level you wouldn't have an imaculate position either. It's amazing how little her body does move. I had the oppertunity to ride a horse with the same level or training as Keltec this year and my body was all over the place. I'm not as skilled as a rider as Anky, but I am good enough that I usually am as still as stone. However, horses that move like that may look smooth, but being in controll you can see how harsh the movements feel.

Here is Anky again. What a horrible rider. Her upper body is not even square with the horse. It sits way back, instead of being suare over her hips. Notice how her upper body leans way back.If we were to draw a straight line through her center, we would have three sections that would not line up. Anky rides as if she forcrs the horse to make movements instead of flowing with the horse. She looks like a pogo stick riding a horse. Anky is great because of money and politics, not because of talent

There is also a website that shows that ankys horses where tested by a vet and it was proved that nothing was wrong with her horses. Not to mention a harmed or abused or a horser in pain, wouldnt win several olympics, 3 world cups and 2 world equestrian games.. not to mention this has been acheived on not only one modern dressage horse but MANY. here is my proof, and if you cant take the truth thats you completly at fault. And where is my proof? Take a look at the oldest hyperflexed horse today. Anky's Bonfire was ridden with hyperflexion from the age of 4 until the age of 17. Thats 14 years of hyperflexion in his training. He is now 25 years of age and he is still be ridden today by anky in a snaffle bridle. That horse is not broken down, he is still today extremely fit. Take a look at all the hyperflexed horses.. nothing wrong with any of them! thats my proof. :)

Firsty, Hyperflexion is never used on some horse who is randomly pulled out of the paddock. They dont pull some random horse out and crank his nose to his chest. Other wise yes, the horse would be injured. The horses are those who have been in work years, theyre extremely strong, theyre extremely fit and extremely supple. Therefore the horse is able to put himself and flex himself into such positions completly at ease.

Keltec was amazing. he missed the beat a bit but who's counting! He looked like he enjoyed it as well. I love this horse!

i think this pair is awesome! salinero looked much more infront of the leg here which is really good. just ddin't get the music right on the change but its still awesome!

this was amazing i love her - obviosuly i dnt no enough to even think of saying anything bad but she had better timing at weg cos before the one times she was a bit ahed but then she collected the canter before the lengenthing and it work out perfect

If a person says that a winning performance like this(world cup title) sucks I would very much like too see that person ride! Salinero is so beautiful, anky is in great shape (some of the really good top riders today are reallt fat)and they look great togheter, the music is ..wow!

Minga90ame - Yes annky is the best rider i have ever watched with a brilliant position. I do not have anything agaisnt her for using rollkur although i do not support it. i am entitle to my opinion. I love anky and she is a brilaint rider and whoever has the guts to bag her out need to get a life because i dont see you winning the world equestrian games or even better the olympics.

your right!!!!!! people think that anky is horrible just because she uses rollkur and people think that she is hurting her horses. anky knows how to do it correctly, not some other losers, so if you wanna go talk to anky, then go to the netherlands yourself!!!!

Every single time I watch ankys performance I get a tear in my eye cus its SO BEAUTIFUL. I try to study anky as hard as I can to get a little more closer to her level, how can anyone have complains about anky, I don't want a messege sent to me after I postet this, that ankys using rollkur cus I know all about it and I konow she wouldent do something thats painful to her horses. All I have to say; Forever Anky and forever bonfire and Salinero. Amanzing stuff.

I wish everyone would stop commenting on ankys videos about rollkur. I'm not saying its good, but its annoying to read them over and over again. I'm sure anyone who knows about anky knows about rollkur.Commenting on her videos about it wont change the fact that she does it.

You can't report people for saying something that's true, and while it may not change what Anky does, it might change the minds of some uninformed people who think that rollkur is harmless, which it isn't. Blocking someone for informing other people is silly, especially since it's just that you're starstruck by someone who's cruel to her horses.

Jaccko, I think Anky is wrong when she says that this horse will be one of the best horses. She should have said he IS one of the best horses in dressage.
