  • yes snake stand crouch in the open.

  • Im sorry!, but there is no way the Japanese dub is better than the English dub. The reason is that all the characters sound like they are all from Japan, on the english version they all sound with the accent of the country each character is from story wise and thats the key difference. Mostly on any anime the Japanses dub is better than the English but not this time sir, including any anime from the 90's.

  • Hey, is there a version in this video with japanese voice with english subtitles? I really want to know what are they saying, while listening them speaking japanese.

  • Uhm...there is 'Metal Gear Solid: Integral' where you can change the subtitles.

  • Sniper wolf is better in the english version, Snake in this.

  • Why? Why can't they make a game like this anymore? I don't remember the last time a video game other than Metal Gear actually made me feel emotions!

  • The Japanese version is good but i still like the English one better

  • Akio Ohtsuka...He voiced his share of villians throughout his career...

  • @vestoras Akio Ohtsuka also voiced Seth in Street Fighter IV

  • The english voices are a billion times better, the japanese voices in this game are just wayyyy over the top

  • These actors are wonderful, and while Hayter did try to sound too "cool" initially, realistically (and Kojima admitted this himself) that the characters would interact in English, and in many ways, it is actually superior. While Wolf sounds dying desperate and sad, her long-drawn accent in the English version, tired and weary, actually portrays this death with more poignancy. Akio Otsuka sounds cool, but Hayter seems more emotional.

  • Тяжёлая сцена...

  • Everyone Otacon loves dies..thank God Snake isn't gay...but he's not better off being his friend lol.

  • hands down, the best scene ever! especially with the theme "enclosure" playing.. i was shedding tears =*) it sounds so much better in japanese

  • Comment removed

  • Can you upload Meryl's death in Japanese as well? Kind of curious

  • wuta a good game ever mgs1

  • @HannesHansen

My message was to the wrong guy, it was suppose to be @Allistar123

    Hate the new youtube

  • yea a whole new lvl of GENERIC.

    eng mgs FTW

  • best game ever.

  • She sounds sexier here. Wolf and snake make a better couple.

  • The japanese Sniper Wolf voice acting girl is just so...

OMG so touching... so deep...i cried :(

  • What are you fighting for?

  • in my opinion Akio Ōtsuka y davi hayter are two diferent snakes. both good but Akio Ōtsuka is a whole new level

  • this is so much more badass where can i get a copy of mgs3 in japanese do i need an import chip as well

  • ITS true that Mgs1 has the best story line ever.................but when mgs 4 came out it aties all the mgs games together MGS4 BABY

  • Eh, i prefer the american version. This one is alright.

  • Jap voice acting so much better.

  • maybe you are right.

  • Why they dont make games like this anymore ...

    MGS the best Game ever

  • I know what you mean man I think the reason why they don't make games like that anymore is because they got tired of watching all those cutscenes cause it feels like they are watching a movie lol.

  • Otacon: Onegai! Suuneeku! Urufu!!

    Wolf: Urusai!!!!!

  • Has anyone ever noticed that "beep" noise that is heard in the background during the cutscene? I thought it was a nice touch; it's like some beeping sound indicating her vital status or something, even though she is dying.

  • yeah HannesHansen

    you are right!

  • even in japanese this scene makes me cry

  • wolf is a kurd=P? i didnt know that..XD and ive played trough this game in both english and japanese at least 10 timesXD

  • I think she makes it clear in this scene.

  • thats what i commented on..=P

  • Either you have only watched one anime, or you're just plain stupid. I've heard a lot of anime voices, and none of them sound alike.

  • para mi la le mejor saga de juego es lejos MGS

  • Japanese voice actors are indeed more dramatic, and they've always been. I actually prefered Snake's japanese voice actor do David Hayter, specially after MGS3.

In MGS3 and 4 both Big Boss and Old Snake look manlier, and not nearly as young as snake looks on MGS1. So I always thought the original japanese voice fits him perfectly.

Other than that, I have no problems with the English Voice Actors. Liquid's nailed it. It was top-notch. Just hearing him say "Brother!"..

  • @DemihumanGosu Personally I prefer Cam Clarke over Banjo Ginga. Cam has that British accent going , Banjo's is just a deep voice.

  • @DemihumanGosu To be honest, Hayter did a bad job in MGS, he sounded too raspy with his "Batman voice" (the one in the Dark Knight) and trying to act tough. Japanese sounds more natural and flowed better. I do think Hayter did better in MGS2 and MGS3.

  • @ppshchik If anything, Hayter's Batman/Clint Eastwood voice was most subdued in MGS. It wasn't until later that he became too Clint Eastwood-like to be bareable, although MGS3 was the best I've seen from him.

  • @DemihumanGosu The japanese do an awesome job at voices and expressing emotions, especially in animes.

However personally I prefer the english Snake. David Hayter's voice defines Snake for me. The japanese Snake sounds like... I don't know, just like any "manly" hero, there's nothing unique about him for me :/

  • xd

    ggggg

  • Snake- It was ok, but it's to deep @_@

    Otacon- It's ok.

Sniper Wolf- That voice actor was amazing, you could tell that she was in real pain.

  • I love sniper wolf

  • Ok. Otacon voice seems shitty to me. Snake sounds like an Anime Superhero... but Sniper Wolf sounds superb!! I'll download this ONLY for the Japanese audio. Sniper kinda turns me on with her voice XD

  • Meh, I can't choose which one I like better. I personally prefer the english one, but then again, I must say that I love the Japanese VA for Sniper Wolf...

  • well Hideo Kojima prefers the American version but hey your the expert so you must be right :D

  • Not exactly, he prefers them speaking in english, because they would of course speak english if this was real.

But he doesn't actually prefer the english voice acting in terms of quality.

  • Well, I perfectly agree with that :P

  • @HannesHansen In fact he did a little poem thing on his website describing how much he loved Seiyuu, i.e. Japanese voice actors.

  • yep

  • u wouldnt have the balls, nychpyno21!! lol oj

  • i feel the english version is way better....but that's just me

  • it is. it is waaaay better. when i think of the character of solid snake from metal gear, and metal gear 2, i think of david hayters solid snake. the voice for the english version is so amazing. along with all the other characters, especially solid snake though.

  • what be because you don't really understand the Japanese :P I think they are kinda equally good, but Wolf's voice is better with the accent that Japanese can't really do. But they actors are more emotional in Japanese and that's what makes them equal to me.

  • nice!!

  • if i was here i knock snakes head off his shoulders with that sniper

  • LMFAO! This is what I hate about Metal Gear Solid series... After you defeat a boss, you have to listen to their life's stories... and they are always so damn sad!!!! Then you feel sorry for killing them!!! Damn you sniper wolf! Your scene is still touching even today!!!!!! T-T..... I love that background music too...

  • The difference between the English and Japanese version is interesting. The Japanese one is more realistic because Wolf sounds in more pain, but the English one is more moving because she sounds like she's peacefully slipping away.

  • ソリッドカッコいい!!!

  • -7 im da shit bitch check da senses b

  • The japanese voice actress for Wolf did a great job :)

  • Lol, I'm used to the english version (having only played that one) but I like listening to the japanese voices. You're just dumb.

  • Why do you think they are attracted to people of the same sex just because of their voices?

  • You say it sounds "gay"

  • Dude, do you like the game or not?

  • i played it 55 times on my PSX

  • 55?! And now you're calling the developers dumbfucks?

  • Time freezes when you use the codec, honestly

  • You shouldn't hate the japanese so much for nothing

  • Its just like movies too. "They have to talk before a fight" ... hahaha. Maybe Sniper wolf wanted a fair fight? hahahaha

  • point is kurd is not wolf.who made that mistake?hideo?

  • You can't assume that's a mistake until you obtain full-confirmation of it. Contact Hideo or Konami staff.

  • However the word kurt in Turkish means wolf.

  • Snake is kind to those who he kills cause he really didn't want to do the mission in the first place, he was forced only

  • the ONLY thing i dont like about this scene is that otacon doesn't kick snakes ass for killing wolf

  • Hal Emmerich is not that kind of person, you know. Even Hal himself said:

-"I told you before. I don't wanna hurt anyone."

  • but still people do crazy stuff when they are in love

  • You're just beeing stereotypical. Don't go that far.

  • well im not a fighter but if someone came in and killed my girl i would kill him right back

  • But she tried to kill Snake too. What was he supposed to do then?

  • he could have stallyed her by codec

  • How?

  • i still play metal gear solid 1

  • oh dear, i got shot... i'l just kneel down in the same location and make a codec call... lol not the same without david hayter

  • david hayter aint shit to this one

  • Another thing I want to say.....This particular cutscene is so much better than the re-make version for the GC...the song alone makes it so powerful.

  • Otacon sounds more like a man in Japanese lol....

  • yes

  • i think japanese voices are better because in the us they make the men's voices too high pitched and women's voices too low

  • heh xept snake's

  • Very true.

  • I disagree. Japanese female voice actress can sound really cute, seductive as hell, or plain angry. I like the male voices, too, because some of them soud like they'll beat the shit outta someone.

  • That's only in porn and manga that we hear those voices but then again that's just an expression anyone can do angry, cute or seductive, but to have depth and character is a different thing for example characters like the pain, joy, lady luck whatever her name is by hearing their voice you can tell what background they're from, what happened to them etc.

  • japanese voices in mgs for life!!!

mgs4 jap. version --> coming at home to me --> confirmed!! ^ .^

first the german and after i rule it, mgs4 jap. the next >_>

    snaaaaakkee!! >=D

  • I like both the Japanese and English versions.

  • me to

  • me to! xD

  • Is it just me or does Snake have no eyes?

  • His eyes are too dark to be seen.

  • Heh, fair enough. I was gonna blame it on the PSX's graphics, myself. Eh, still funny to see him looking like he's got no eyes.

  • Do you know what make the voice acting of this version so great? It's because of the characters' mouths. Since they can't move their mouts, they have to "shake" something of their bodies or else, no one can guess which one of them is talking. And due to the fact that they can't open their mouths, the voice actors don't have to worry about the "lip sync". That's what makes it easier to speak normally.

  • Yep. I guess so.

  • i came up with that conclusion myself too. In MGS2 and MGS3, the VAs had a signal telling them when to start and stop talking. Did you know that in MGS4, the VAs are watching the motion capture sessions as they do the voice acting? Not to mention, they are also matching the lips to the voices in English as well. I think that it will look more realistic and flow better than MGS2 and 3

  • "Not to mention, they are also matching the lips to the voices in English as well."

They actually did that in MGS2 too, if you compare the US and Japanese versions you'll notice that the lip movement is very different in both versions. Even in MGS1 they adjusted the lip movement during codec dialogues.

They didn't do it in MGS3 though.

  • I don't know if anyone of you watches anime and knows some of the more famous Japanese seiyuus, but I think that Sniper Wolf's voice actress sounds just like Koshimizu Ami (Mai Otome/Mai HiME etc.).

  • Omg, this scene is so sad! I had to cry when I first saw it, but the Japanese versions beats the English one, totally ;_;.

  • I love Wolf's voice in the Japanese version. She sounds more...feminine.

  • Yup. You're right. Her voice is really good. But I like her english voice too, her german voice is bad.

  • it´s japanese

  • I see ... so the japanese version has excellent voice acting, too. Dont kill me for it, but I still prefer to english VA's better. Part of its familiarity with the language, which maks the nuances in the VAs performance comprehensible. And I'm a littl eupset 'cause I dont think they were able to get her accent at all ... but, y'know, this was still great. Sniper Wolf was SO my fave FOXHOUND member

  • It's said that Kojima himself prefers the English VO's of Metal Gear Solid because David Hayter (and probably the rest of the cast) do such a good job. I know he's not part of FOX HOUND but Otacon was always my favorite MGS character.

  • i disagree,i think the original voices are better(snake sounds much deeper),but i respect your opinion

  • Actually "uru" doesn't mean wolf. "Uru" is "Wolf" spelled by Japanese. For example Liquid Snake is spelled in Japan "Rikiddo Suneku" and Solid Snake is "Soriddo Suneku".

    Sounds strange, huh?

(Of course, my brothers, I might be wrong.)

  • Uhm, not exactly.

Originally, "wolf" is "ookami" in Japanese and the pronunciation of the English word "wolf" in Japanese is "urufu".

But I don't know the Japanese pronunciation of "sniper". It may be "sunaipa", but I'm not sure.

  • Sorry for my English. Acually I meant exatly what you said. I explained it wrong. Sorry.

  • Nah, you just mistook the word "urufu" for "uru", but there is no need to apologize because your explanation was actually correct. It was just a little mistake, nothing more. :)

  • uru is Japanese for wolf, right?

  • An incredible shivering scene, Metal Gear Solid is one of Psx best game, and one of best video game ever created.

  • what the heck does Snake say at :50? He sounds really pissed off.

  • Wow, Japanese Dub is really good! Love the emotion.

  • better than the english version(which isn´t bad,either)

  • I'm a Kurd too :P

  • well

the best cut scene ever is it's equivalent in mgs2, death of Emma Emmerich

  • It's just my opinion, but I think especially Sniper Wolfs japanese voice is far better and more emotional in this scene.

As for the lip-sync. They did match up the codec lip-sync to the englisch voice acting in the PSX version.

  • Sure, it was more emotional, but my only grip is that she doesn't sound from middle-east anymore (well, how could you reproduce that kind of accent in japanese).

  • To me, Sniper Wolf sounds Russian, even though she is suppose to be Kurdish.

  • not as well done as the english version

  • The Japanese Version looks way better for Codec Lip-Sync! The Twin Snakes was the Worst for that! (In English!)

  • i mean this scene. japanese voice actors all sound too generic. snakes english voice is much cooler than his jpn voice. and wolf's ps1 performace was perfect.

  • ...Maybe, but I like both! And the Dubbing in Japanese Match's the Lip-Sync! Which is what i'd like in the English Version, especially The Twin Snakes < which was rushed like a Bitch! Wasn't impressed with that tbh, Game Play Owned, but not that! Original was better for that... & everything else ofc!

  • That's because the Japanese version is the original version. The English version is a dub, so it's not going to be perfect.

  • it's better even kojima said the american version is better.

  • He said he prefered them speaking english as that's the language they'd realistically speak. He never outright said that the actual voice acting is better though.

And he did say he was disappointed with MGS2's english voice acting in a japanese interview. Subsequentially he stopped releasing the english language versions in Japan after MGS2.

  • Doesn't the Japanese version of MGS3: Subsistence have English voice acting?

  • Nope, MGS2: Substance was the last english language release in Japan.

  • @HannesHansen

The Japanese version has better voice actors (chosen because of their voice acting) has emotion, personality and uniqueness for each character

While the american one doesnt have ANY, chose random people off the streets to read lines like a robot which makes the game dull, no anything no nothing sounds like shit, compare watching american ones and the Japanese one and you'll know the big difference

  • @LeonScottKennedySama The thing is, the Japanese seiyuu are of the Dragonball variety, most of them had roles in Dragonball. The English actors are of the Cartoon Network variety.

Dragonball had a level of pathos and emotional variety.

Cartoon Network productions are just comedies.

    Thus the difference in quality.

  • @MrLunitunz

I hope you are joking, "Japanese Seiyuu are DBZ variety?"

When did this happen? DBZ is just ONE anime, theres hundreds of different seiyuu and they are handpicked by their unique voices.

English actors are probably chosen by getting picked off from the street

  • @LeonScottKennedySama I didn't mean in general. I meant the MGS Seiyuu.

    Hiromi Tsuru (Naomi) was Bulma

Takeshi Aono (Campbell) was Picollo Sr/Kami

    Kaneto Shiozawa had a role

    Koji Totani had a role

Banjo Ginga probably had a role.

Most of them had Dragonball parts and I don't think it's purely coincidental.

  • @MrLunitunz Banjo Ginga voiced souther hokuto no ken, Kaneto shiozawa voiced rei from hokuto no ken, koji totani voiced devilman and some other dragonball characters, also hokuto no ken and dragonball was both made from toei animation, you should watch hokuto no ken, banjo ginga was fucking awesome as souther.

  • Koji Totani was Jagi, as well as King lieutenant Club, Jackal's right hand man, Fox, and Shuran Rasho Han in Hokuto no Ken, and sadly, he's dead. In those Shin Kyuseishu Densetsu Hokuto no Ken movies made by TMS entertainment, Akio Ohtsuka (Solid Snake) replaced Banjo Ginga (Liquid Snake) as Souther. P.S, Koji Totani also voiced Young Ryuken in Hokuto no Ken.

  • @HannesHansen Well I would've like to listen in Japanese.

  • @HannesHansen I tend to agree with Kojima if that's what he actually said... both versions are awesome, but the English one has a more realistic feel for obvious reasons...

  • Die beste stelle im ganzen spiel, der tot von sniper wolf war wirklich herzzerreißend

  • Ich würd sogar sagen, die beste Stelle der gesamten MGS Reihe.*g*

  • Great. Do you plan to upload more Japanese Metal Gear Solid cutscenes (or boss fights)?

  • Of course, but I'm doing a little break right now, there were lot of sound problems during recording, so it was quite stressfull, to record the vids.

But I'm definitly going to upload more, the best cutscenes from the 2nd disc.

  • thanx for uploading this---hideo kojima is the best
