85'86 and 87 were all identical except for a few electronic changes...88 was the first year of liquid cooled

no, 83-85 were similar. 86-88 were similar. 1989 was the first year watercooled... I know. I raced offroad during that time. Had a Suzuki PE175 which was a great bike but not as good as the KDX 200.

@salmons83 Sorry dude.. I used to own a '88 KDX200 & it was definately air-cooled. Though I did see an '89 model for sale about 6mnths after I bought mine.. that was water-cooled. I took it for a spin but didn't like it.. they are heavier & I think the early water-cooled KDX's at least are nowhere near as nice to ride as the lighter air-cooled models.. :)

OMG this sounds so sweet, i was looking at getting one('86) but the owner claims it needs.a coil, cdi, brake and clutch levers, air cleaner and handle bars. I have never worked on a KDX are they tricky? The only thing also is that its sold as a non runner and the guy says it will run with these parts, but i dont know what i would do if it didnt!? lol Really tempted even still! Any advice guys? Would really appreciate it!!!! ;-)

Thats a nice bike. I found a 86' kdx 200 in the woods and reported it too the cops and they said i could keep it. it doesnt run because the engine is seized but ill restore it over the winter. Or when im old enough to get a job so ill have some money. :D

Yeah i got a '91 KDX 200 special white plastic edition they're nice bikes my odometer reads 17,036 miles and it still runs great

i have a kdx 1989 200 its mint condition but i want to get blinkers and stuff because the cops are heavy on kids but i dont know where to go to get any can some one please help me find where i could go, and im pritty sure that any stock lights will do. Thanks

Go to a Napa store and look at the small round truck marker lamps with rubber grommets. Get the LED type. Cut a hole in some mild steel or aluminum plate and insert the rubber grommet. The lens pushes in place and is "Unbreakable" Use a HD flasher (Napa) that works without an electric load. Use a 3 way switch mounted to the handlebar for actuation. Mini automotive brakelamp sw. and another red duel element LED lamp can be used in the rear. Stock electrics will operate these Led lights no problem
